Rory McIlroy's fans at his home-town golf club erupted as he clinched Masters glory – despite not being allowed to toast his success.

The club's bar licence meant last orders were called at 10pm, with those ordering before needing to down their drinks by 10.30pm. McIlroy still has his own parking space in the car park, and fans faced hours of drama as he finally ended his 11-year wait for a fifth major.
'I was absolutely sick with nerves,' Holywood Golf Club's lady captain Ruth Watt told the BBC.
'We thought he had thrown it away … but it was an unbelievable finish. I'm going home for a gin and tonic.'
McIlroy grew up in Holywood and his school, Sullivan Upper, awards green blazers to pupils who excel at sport. Some sixth formers watched their idol wearing their own green blazers.

'Welcome to the club @McIlroyRory,' Woods posted on social media.
'Completing the grand slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round, and this entire journey has shown through, and now you're a part of history. Proud of you!'
McIlroy's close friend Shane Lowry joked that McIlroy could happily retire after completing the career grand slam.
'This means everything to him,' Lowry told Golf Channel.

'This is all he thinks about, all he talks about. He always said to me he'd retire a happy man if he won the green jacket, so I told Erica he can retire now.
'He's had a long 10, 11 years, he's had a lot of hurdles to get over and it's a credit to him.'
Tommy Fleetwood, who finished 21st after a closing 69, added: 'I've said it a bunch of times, I think Rory is the best player of our generation. I don't think he's had to prove that for a while.
'For him to have finally got this one, a career grand slam, is unbelievably special. I think this time was always going to come, it's just Rory makes you feel like it's not going to at some point.

Jon Rahm claims LIV Golf season-long individual title despite being winless all season

ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE ‼️@JonRahmOfficial shoots 11-under to lead in Indy with the Individual Championship on the line 🔥#LIVGolfIndy @legionxiiigc For the second time in as many years with the league, Jon Rahm stormed from behind to steal LIV Golf's season-long individual championship from Joaquin Niemann. Rahm made 10 birdies, an eagle and a bogey en route to a blistering 11-under 60 in the final round Sunday at LIV Golf Indy at the Club at Chatham Hills, finishing in a tie for first at 22 under with Sebastian Munoz, who made headlines when he fired a 59 in Friday's first round. Munoz ultimately won the playoff in just one extra hole, capturing his first LIV Golf victory, but Rahm had already clinched the season-long title in regulation due to Niemann's T-4 finish. It's the second runner-up finish in a row and third of the season for Rahm, who claims the season-long title without actually winning a single event outright all year. He did, however, finish inside the top 10 in all but one of his 13 starts. Rahm and Niemann entered the week as the only two in contention for LIV Golf's race for the individual championship. Niemann — who won five LIV Golf events this season — had a 12-point advantage in the standings when LIV Golf Indy started but ended up narrowly behind Rahm. Rahm, a two-time major champion, started hot and stayed hot throughout the day, making birdies on the first two holes before making three in a row on holes 9-11. An eagle on the par-5 13th made it seem as if Rahm was going to run away with the title but a bogey on the very next hole opened the door again. That door was slammed shut down the stretch, as the 30-year-old Spaniard made four birdies in a row to finish the round. With the performance Sunday, Rahm takes home $20.25 million — $2.25 million for his runner-up finish at LIV Golf Indy and an extra $18 million bonus for his season-long championship victory.

Who is new Texans TE Harrison Bryant? Houston acquires pass-catcher in John Metchie trade

Time is a flat circle: The #Eagles and #Texans each reacquired their own 2026 draft picks, exchanged in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade, as part of today's deal that sends WR John Metchie III to Philadelphia and TE Harrison Bryant to Houston. John Metchie III is off to the Philadelphia Eagles following three years with the Houston Texans, but who is headed to NRG Stadium in his place? According to multiple reports, the Texans are sending Metchie to the defending Super Bowl champions in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick. The Eagles will also receive a 2026 sixth-round pick, which initially was sent over to Houston in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson deal earlier this offseason. So, who is Bryant? A former John Mackey Award-winning tight end at Florida Atlantic, Bryant signed a one-year deal this offseason to back up Dallas Goedert. He was expected to be the No. 3 tight end, but the Eagles A former fourth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns, Bryant spent four seasons in the AFC North before signing a one-year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders last season as a backup to Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer. Bryant had nine catches for 86 yards last season in Las Vegas. For his career, Bryant has totaled 98 career receptions for 877 yards and 10 touchdowns. He's expected to compete for the No. 3 tight end role, which should be the same for him in Houston now with Brevin Jordan out for the season with a lower-body injury. A 2022 second-round pick, Metchie caught 24 passes for 254 yards and one touchdown during 13 regular-season games with the Texans in 2024. He also suited up for both of Houston's playoff games, securing six of 10 targets for 63 yards. This preseason, Metchie caught five passes for 45 yards and added another 23 yards on a kickoff return in Houston's 20-10 preseason loss to the Vikings in Week 1. He reunites with Pro Bowl wide receiver DeVonta Smith, his counterpart at Alabama during the Crimson Tide's 2020 national championship-winning team. The Texans will wrap up the preseason on the road next Saturday at Ford Field against the Detroit Lions. They will trim the roster down to 53 following Saturday's preseason finale ahead of Week 1's showdown against the Los Angeles Rams.

Police investigating Strictly 'drug use' claims

The Metropolitan Police has said it is investigating allegations of drug use on Strictly Come Dancing. In a statement, the Met said it had "received an allegation about drug related offences". "Police are assessing the information and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed," it said. The BBC said it had "clear protocols and policies in place" for dealing with any serious complaints raised with it. The Met's involvement comes after the the BBC launched an investigation earlier this month into alleged drug use by two stars of the show, who have not been named. It followed a report in the Sun on Sunday, which said the alleged drug use by the stars was widely talked about on the show. BBC News understands the corporation has hired a law firm to help it carry out the probe. On Sunday, the Sun reported that the BBC had referred the matter to police. A Met spokesperson later confirmed that the force had "received an allegation about drug related offences" on Tuesday 12 August. The BBC said it would not comment on any police investigation. But it highlighted a previous statement which read: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. "We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further." Strictly, which has been airing since 2004, has faced multiple controversies over the past few years relating to the behaviour of some of its professionals and celebrity guests. It is believed, however, that this is the first time the BBC has been in contact with the police over allegations linked to the show.
