Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is reportedly blaming himself—not the team—for the unresolved contract situation with star pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson. As Hendrickson's holdout continues, Burrow's reaction highlights leadership, but also underscores the growing pressure on the franchise ahead of the 2025 NFL season.
Joe Burrow shoulders blame as Trey Hendrickson's contract standoff puts
Bengals
' 2025 season at risk
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Joe Burrow isn't pointing fingers at the Bengals' front office for failing to secure Hendrickson's extension. Instead, he's internalizing the issue, believing it's on him to lead the team through the distraction.
'He puts it all on his shoulders and says, 'Hey, we have to get this done. I'm the quarterback of this franchise,'' Fowler reported.
While that mindset is admirable, Burrow doesn't control contract negotiations.
The Bengals have reportedly offered Hendrickson a deal worth $28 million per year. But considering Hendrickson has recorded more sacks than any edge rusher in the NFL over the past two seasons, that offer may not reflect his true market value.
$28M offer falls short as Hendrickson holdout threatens Bengals' 2025 hopes
According to Over the Cap, a $28 million annual salary would rank Hendrickson eighth among edge rushers, trailing players like T.J. Watt and Myles Garrett, even though Hendrickson has outperformed many of them recently.
His camp is pushing for a top-five salary, and rightly so, given his consistent impact on the Bengals' defense.
Fowler added that Hendrickson remains firmly committed to his stance and is prepared to miss games if a new deal isn't reached. For a Bengals team aiming to rebound in the AFC and make a deep playoff run, losing their top defensive player could be a massive blow.
Burrow's willingness to take the blame shows leadership, but it doesn't change the reality. The Bengals must resolve this holdout before it disrupts team chemistry and derails their 2025 campaign.

If the Bengals want to remain competitive in 2025, securing Trey Hendrickson with a fair-market deal is critical. His production ranks among the league's best, and replacing that impact won't be easy if the holdout continues.

Red Panda injured in dramatic fall during halftime at Indiana Fever vs Minnesota Lynx Commissioner's Cup

Red Panda. Image via: Erica Denhoff/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images A scary moment happened Tuesday night during the WNBA Commissioner's Cup final between the Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx at Minnesota's Target Center. Legendary halftime performer Red Panda, known for her high-flying unicycle and bowl-balancing act, took a sudden fall just seconds into her performance. Medical personnel rushed to her aid as she lay on the court, clutching her wrist. The beloved entertainer was eventually left the court, waving at fans. The arena was silent for a while as concerns about her condition lingered. Halftime icon Red Panda suffers a serious fall during the Indiana Fever vs Minnesota Lynx Commissioner's Cup final Red Panda, whose real name is Rong 'Krystal' Niu, was less than a minute into her routine when she fell from her seven-foot-tall unicycle, a staple in her iconic act. According to The Athletic's Ben Pickman, the fall happened shortly after she released the ladder used to climb onto her unicycle. She appeared shaken and held her left wrist on the ground, needing assistance from medical staff. Per CBS Spoers, she was wheeled away. An arena worker later confirmed she was transported in an ambulance. The 50-year-old acrobat has been a fixture in basketball arenas since 1993. She has earned a devoted following across the NBA, WNBA, and college basketball for her seemingly impossible act of flipping and stacking metal bowls on her head— all while riding a towering unicycle. ESPN and MinnPost reporters described the incident as a 'hard spill' that left her motionless for several moments, clearly in pain. Her journey has included more than just basketball stardom. After her father's battle with esophageal cancer, Niu took a break from performing in 2013. She later told Sports on Earth, 'I couldn't stay away,' explaining her return to the stage in 2015 after helping her mother through illness. This year, she reached new heights in entertainment by advancing to the semifinals of Britain's Got Talent and making a cameo in Netflix's Running Point. She was also featured in Season 8 of America's Got Talent before stepping away for personal reasons. NBA Trade Rumors: Damian Lillard linked to join Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler after exit from Milwaukee Bucks

Damian Lillard. Image via: revor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Damian Lillard's departure from the Milwaukee Bucks has ignited a fresh wave of speculation, with major interest brewing around the Golden State Warriors. After the Bucks shocked the league by waiving the nine-time All-Star to free up cap space, Lillard now finds himself at a crossroads. Now he has full control over his next destination. His next move could define his remaining NBA career, but with that, it could also potentially reshape a title contender's landscape for the team where he eventually lands. Damian Lillard may join Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler in the Golden State Warriors The Milwaukee Bucks' decision to waive Damian Lillard and stretch the remaining $113 million on his contract caught many off guard. The team's early playoff exit, combined with Lillard's Achilles injury, marked an abrupt end to a short-lived partnership. With Myles Turner set to arrive in Milwaukee, the franchise opted for a painful but strategic reset, leaving Lillard free to chart his next course. According to Marc J. Spears, 'Another thing I'm hearing, of the many teams that reached out to Damian Lillard, the Warriors are one of those teams.' The possibility of Lillard teaming up with Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler in Golden State has sparked excitement. It would certainly form one of the most lethal scoring trios in the NBA. Spears added, 'This is a guy that grew up going to games at Oracle Arena, sneaking into the media room getting sodas. Grew up a Warriors fan.' However, history suggests the fit might not be as perfect as it sounds. In a 2023 episode of It Is What It Is, Lillard made his feelings on joining the Warriors quite clear. 'As far as like Golden State, I respect what they've been doing… That's home. But I can't be a part of that… Like what I look like going to try to do that and say oh I'm joining my home team. Like no… I lose every year before I go,' Lillard said candidly. While his competitive spirit and loyalty are admirable, circumstances have shifted. At 35 and coming off a torn Achilles, Lillard is entering a phase where opportunity and support matter more than ego. And Golden State, with Curry and Butler in place, might offer just that. According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Lillard is 'elated' with the newfound freedom and has already received calls from contending teams.
