Cadillac unveils 'Elevated Velocity' electric crossover concept car

General Motors on Thursday unveiled the Cadillac Elevated Velocity, a new concept car aimed at building up the brand's all-electric luxury crossover segment.
The electric concept car has a 'lifted yet elegant design,' according to Cadillac, riding on 24-inch wheels. It includes multiple driving modes to enhance the electric vehicle's performance, the company said.
'The word 'elevate' serves a dual meaning — it is a reference to the lifted chassis that enables high-speed off-road capabilities, but it also refers to an elevated luxury experience,' said Alexandra Dymowska, Cadillac senior brand designer, in a media release.
The vehicle, which is a running showcar but does not have full performance capabilities, builds on Cadillac's luxury EV portfolio, which already includes the Lyriq and the Optiq.
Automakers regularly use concept vehicles to gauge customer interest or show the future direction of a vehicle or brand, but they're not meant to be sold to consumers.
The car continues the design principles of Cadillac's ' Opulent Velocity ' concept car, which the company revealed in 2024, said Bryan Nesbitt, vice president of GM global design, in a media statement.
GM initially set a goal to exclusively offer EVs by 2035, but has since said that consumer demand, which has been slower than expected, will dictate its EV plans. Its luxury Cadillac brand set a separate goal to be all-electric by 2030, but more recently said it will offer a full lineup of EVs as well as gas-powered cars.
Cadillac has been going through a revival effort in recent years, considering that luxury cars offer higher profit margins and attract a more affluent consumer than traditional vehicles.
During a call with reporters last month, Cadillac Vice President John Roth said the brand saw its best first half in nearly 20 years. He touted that Cadillac was the bestselling luxury EV brand in the second quarter of 2025, No. 2 in calendar year-to-date terms and fifth for overall EV sales.
'Lifted yet elegant design'
The concept car offers multiple user experience modes. When entering the car, 'welcome mode' involves the gull-wing doors lifting skyward and parts of the interior lighting up.
When the driver engages 'elevate mode,' the car becomes autonomous and the interior transforms into a 'recovery space,' where the pedals and steering wheel retract, ambient lighting changes and a light above the steering column aids the driver in breathwork to help occupants get in the 'headspace for performance,' according to Cadillac.
The elevate mode also triggers interior cabin filtration, fragrance, red light therapy and climatization to account for changes in air temperature and quality.
'Velocity mode,' meanwhile, features cool white lighting to 'evoke a sense of exhilaration' and floor lighting dims to help the driver focus on the road.
The concept car also includes different drive modes for on-road and off-road performance and improved visibility when driving in dusty or sandy conditions.
Cadillac said its exterior color is inspired by glacier ice, contrasted against the car's red interior.
The cabin includes red leather on the seat cushions and the cabin and cargo floor, while a red fabric covers the seat uppers, armrests and instrument panel.

The Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator Fight For the American Luxury SUV Crown

But if you look down, there is a very clearly undersized display nestled within the dash. It's too small and it controls most of the car's functions — including the detailed adjustments for the seats and the direction of the air flow from the vents. The problem is it's all too small, too difficult to use, and cramming so much of the car's primary controls into a screen (and burying them in menu after menu) is maddening. Once you get it all set up, it's fine, but you're going to need the patience of a saint. The Escalade isn't trouble-free when it comes to tech either. It has also gone for a massive pillar-to-pillar screen, but it just hasn't made the best use of all that real estate. Most of the time, there are huge sections of nothing being displayed, and all you're looking at is something akin to an iPhone background. Plus, the text is too small and, though it's a touchscreen, it sits too far from the driver. Good thing there's a scroll knob and some shortcut buttons in the center console to make navigating it a simpler affair. And then there's the rest of the cabin. The interior just doesn't fit the bill of a near $130,000 luxury barge, and it starts with that scroll knob. It looks nice, but it's a bit cheap-feeling to manipulate and use and that's emblematic of the rest of the interior. The leathers are nice enough, even the front chairs aren't as comfortable or plush as what's in the Lincoln. There is a lot more hard plastic and piano black littered throughout the cabin, and even something Cadillac did well, namely the wood detailing on the dashboard, is covered by a lacquer that makes it look more like plastic.

Cadillac's Elevated Velocity crossover EV promotes performance, luxury

Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Gullwing doors and high performance define Cadillac's Elevated Velocity crossover electric vehicle concept that could turn off-roading into a luxury experience. The Elevated Velocity is part of the luxury car brand's portfolio of concept vehicles and features a raised chassis for better ground clearance, along with its gull-wing doors and futuristic lighting. "Elevated Velocity builds on the design principles introduced in the Opulent Velocity concept and revealed in 2024," said Bryan Nesbitt, vice president of Global Design at General Motors Corp, in a news release on Thursday. The concept integrates "Cadillac's luxury, technology and performance in an increasingly popular performance-luxury crossover," Nesbitt added. The Elevated Velocity offers a lifted chassis for greater ground clearance and relatively high-speed off-road capabilities, while also providing an "elevated luxury experience," Cadillac senior designer Alexandra Dymowska said. "The concept envisions a refined, exhilarating experience, where the art of mastery meets the rush of adrenaline," she explained. Cadillac intends to unveil the Elevated Velocity crossover at The Quail "motorsports gathering" event in Carmel, Calif., on Friday. The crossover seats four with two seats in front and two in back and has an off-roading mode that makes it possible to explore two-tracks, cross desert terrain and navigate mountain roads in inclement weather without the bother of fueling stops. A new Terra driving mode activates the Elevated Velocity's air suspension for greater comfort, while 24-inch wheels improve its off-roading abilities. The high-performance EV crossover also offers autonomous driving capability and retracts the steering wheel and the gas and brake pedals when in self-driving mode. Cadillac designers intend for the Elevated Velocity to deliver peak performance on any terrain with the exhilaration of driving a hypercar. In addition to the Terra and Elevate modes, drivers can choose an e-Velocity mode for "intense on-road driving" and a Sand Vision mode that improves visibility while driving in a sandstorm. An Elements Defy mode helps to discourage the accumulation of dust, sand and dirt by vibrating the exterior to keep it clean. Cadillac did not announce performance specs for the sleekly designed Elevated Velocity crossover or discuss its motor and drivetrain.
