Cadillac's sleek, high-performance EV coupe concept has a sandstorm mode

Cadillac's latest concept is designed to be as thrilling on road as it is capable off it. The Cadillac Elevated Velocity concept is a high-riding, high-performance electric crossover that the General Motors luxury brand says previews 'potential future Cadillac design cues'. It'll be on display at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, California from today (August 15). Cadillac says it builds on the Opulent Velocity revealed in 2024, and like this other concept it previews what V-Series performance models could look like in the future. CarExpert can save you thousands on a new car. Click here to get a great deal. It also features design elements in existing Cadillac EVs, such as the long bonnet and vertical lighting elements of the Lyriq and Celestiq. The front lighting elements have a 'fluted translucent' look like last year's concept. The Elevated Velocity features a sleek coupe silhouette with a pair of huge gullwing doors. Cover the lower half of the vehicle with your hand, and it could be yet another gorgeous Cadillac coupe concept in the tradition of the Cien and Elmiraj. However, this sleek coupe rides on huge 24-inch wheels. That's because this concept – and to be clear, this is just a concept – is intended to be capable off-road. There's a range of selectable drive modes, including Terra Mode, which adjust settings for components like the air suspension. A Sand Vision feature works like Cadillac's existing Night Vision, helping you see better during a sandstorm. And whether it's Mother Nature or your car kicking up dust, Cadillac has included a feature called Elements Defy that keeps the exterior clean of debris using a dust-phobic vibration. Back on tarmac, there's an e-Velocity mode that's much like the V-Mode found in current V-Series vehicles. The ambient lighting shifts to white tones, and the steering wheel displays speed, time, battery health and temperature. Cadillac hasn't detailed any specific powertrain details for the concept. Like the Opulent Velocity concept, the Elevated Velocity is designed to not only be enjoyable to drive but also to have autonomous driving capabilities. Elevate Mode sees the pedals and steering wheel retract, while the outside temperature, driver's body temperature and cabin temperature are all displayed and the ambient lighting shifts to red. A rich Morello Red interior contrasts with the Vapour Blue exterior. The cabin is finished in Fine Nappa leather, including on the headliner, pillars and even the cargo floor, as well as both Garnet boucle and Cerise fabrics. The former is used on items like the armrests, while the latter encircles the cabin, wrapping from the doors to behind the instrument panel and then behind the rear seats. Brushed metal accents help break up the sea of red, and the Elevated Velocity features a 2+2 seating layout. 'The interior features layers of materials ranging from smooth wrapped surfaces, embossed grains, boucle fabric, tinted acrylic and glass, representing Elevated Velocity's extreme capabilities with inspiration from desert polo pursuits,' reads the press release. Indeed, there's been a lot of inspiration taken from desert polo, with the doors featuring a black crystal 3D printed pattern inspired by the sport. Cadillac has even included a bespoke polo set in a lockable compartment in the rear, with the polo helmet, gloves, kneepads and mallet all crafted in Morello Red. 'Elevated Velocity seeks to demonstrate our interpretation of an uncompromised performance luxury experience, where one can repurpose their valuable time by commuting fully autonomously, then unlock a true hands-on high-performance experience in places not unlike the rich dunes of the Lahbab desert, leaving zero emissions in their wake,' said GM Global Design boss Bryan Nesbitt. Cadillac has been busily expanding its lineup of electric vehicles (EVs), and has revealed its first electric V-Series performance models: the Lyriq-V, revealed late last year, and the Optiq-V, released this year. The former has been locked in for an Australian launch in 2026. Cadillac now offers V-Series models with everything from turbocharged four-cylinder power through to electric powertrains and supercharged V8 engines. However, it has thus far reserved its vaunted Blackwing nameplate for purely combustion-powered models: the twin-turbo V6 CT4-V Blackwing, and the supercharged V8 CT5-V Blackwing. Cadillac's flagship EV is the ultra-exclusive Celestiq. A convertible version, the Sollei, was revealed last year along with the Opulent Velocity concept, and is decidedly more production-ready than the latter. Despite this, it has yet to be confirmed for production.

Cadillac unveils 'Elevated Velocity' electric crossover concept car

General Motors on Thursday unveiled the Cadillac Elevated Velocity, a new concept car aimed at building up the brand's all-electric luxury crossover segment. The electric concept car has a 'lifted yet elegant design,' according to Cadillac, riding on 24-inch wheels. It includes multiple driving modes to enhance the electric vehicle's performance, the company said. 'The word 'elevate' serves a dual meaning — it is a reference to the lifted chassis that enables high-speed off-road capabilities, but it also refers to an elevated luxury experience,' said Alexandra Dymowska, Cadillac senior brand designer, in a media release. The vehicle, which is a running showcar but does not have full performance capabilities, builds on Cadillac's luxury EV portfolio, which already includes the Lyriq and the Optiq. Automakers regularly use concept vehicles to gauge customer interest or show the future direction of a vehicle or brand, but they're not meant to be sold to consumers. The car continues the design principles of Cadillac's ' Opulent Velocity ' concept car, which the company revealed in 2024, said Bryan Nesbitt, vice president of GM global design, in a media statement. GM initially set a goal to exclusively offer EVs by 2035, but has since said that consumer demand, which has been slower than expected, will dictate its EV plans. Its luxury Cadillac brand set a separate goal to be all-electric by 2030, but more recently said it will offer a full lineup of EVs as well as gas-powered cars. Cadillac has been going through a revival effort in recent years, considering that luxury cars offer higher profit margins and attract a more affluent consumer than traditional vehicles. During a call with reporters last month, Cadillac Vice President John Roth said the brand saw its best first half in nearly 20 years. He touted that Cadillac was the bestselling luxury EV brand in the second quarter of 2025, No. 2 in calendar year-to-date terms and fifth for overall EV sales. 'Lifted yet elegant design' The concept car offers multiple user experience modes. When entering the car, 'welcome mode' involves the gull-wing doors lifting skyward and parts of the interior lighting up. When the driver engages 'elevate mode,' the car becomes autonomous and the interior transforms into a 'recovery space,' where the pedals and steering wheel retract, ambient lighting changes and a light above the steering column aids the driver in breathwork to help occupants get in the 'headspace for performance,' according to Cadillac. The elevate mode also triggers interior cabin filtration, fragrance, red light therapy and climatization to account for changes in air temperature and quality. 'Velocity mode,' meanwhile, features cool white lighting to 'evoke a sense of exhilaration' and floor lighting dims to help the driver focus on the road. The concept car also includes different drive modes for on-road and off-road performance and improved visibility when driving in dusty or sandy conditions. Cadillac said its exterior color is inspired by glacier ice, contrasted against the car's red interior. The cabin includes red leather on the seat cushions and the cabin and cargo floor, while a red fabric covers the seat uppers, armrests and instrument panel.

Cadillac Elevated Velocity SUV concept previews the future of the brand's performance EVs

Boasting a lifted ride, 24-inch wheels and both autonomous and performance-driving modes, the Cadillac Elevated Velocity concept car reveals designs and features that will carry the brand's V-series vehicles into the future. With electric all-wheel drive and an adjustable air suspension, the sleek SUV has gull-wing doors, a modern, roomy interior, 2+2 seating and an augmented-reality head-up display ― combining features Cadillac offers now and is evaluating for tomorrow. The concept also previews innovative ideas for desert racing, including repelling sand from its sleek four-door body and peering through dust storms. The Elevated Velocity debuts at the Quail, a luxury vehicle event in Carmel, California, on Aug. 15. The Quail is part of a weekend of events for luxury, racing and classic vehicles on and near the Monterey Peninsula. An earlier Cadillac concept called Opulent Velocity debuted at the Quail last year. What's cool about the Cadillac Elevated Velocity? Elements defy mode that vibrates the car to shed dust and dirt. That enhanced vision to peer through sandstorms. 24-inch wheels Electric all-wheel drive Air suspension Gull wing doors 2+2 seating The look of tomorrow's Cadillacs Cadillac expects the market for high-performance electric luxury SUVs to grow. The Elevated Velocity's profile ― long hood, spacious interior, short rear overhang, fastback rear end ― is consistent with the current Cadillac Lyriq and Celestiq. 'Concepts are the compass for us,' GM design chief Brian Nesbitt said during a briefing on the Elevated Velocity. Other exterior touches include Cadillac's signature vertical lighting, illuminated front and rear badges, Vapor Blue exterior paint and blue-tinted windows. Full-width rear lights create a three-dimensional effect Cadillac calls a 'light tunnel.' More: It's time to recognize Mary Barra as one of the auto industry's great CEOs. Here's why. Infrared light and 'dust-phobic vibration' The Elevated Velocity has modes for interior comfort and different kinds of travel, from handsfree relaxation to desert racing. Welcome: On approach, the gull-wing doors open, soft white light bathes the interior, an animation on the steering wheel mimics shifting desert sand, V-series logos light up on interior door caps. Elevate: Autonomous driving to recover from strenuous activity. The steering wheel and pedals retract, ambient light shifts to red and the seat backs emit infrared light. The climate control system filters and perfumes cabin air; and adjusts for changes in temperature, humidity and elevation. The IR light is part of red light therapy, an experimental treatment to help 'occupants recover from vigorous pursuits.' Velocity: The driver is in charge and has access to the car's full performance. Cool white interior lighting. The steering wheel displays speed, time, batter health and temperature. Augmented reality display and navigation on the HUD. A separate set of driving modes, in addition to that enhanced vision for sandstorms and that "elements defy" mode that generates a 'dust-phobic' vibration, like a horse shaking itself clean, include: E-Velocity mode for intense on-road driving. Terra mode for peak off-road performance. Interior luxury The interior has four pedestal bucket seats. A floating center console extends from the dash to rear seats. The yoke-style steering wheel incorporates a hub-mounted display screen that's intended to be most useful when the driver seat reclines and the steering wheel retracts. The HUD delivers information to the driver when the car is in hands-on mode. Interior colors and materials include: Morello red leather for the door uppers seat cushions, cabin and floor. Cerise red fabric on the doors, dash and seat backs Garnet: A red boucle fabric for arm rests, center console and instrument panel. 3D black crystal on the doors in a pattern of 'the dynamic action of desert polo ― the clashing of mallets or motion of the horses' hooves as they sprint across a field of shifting sand.' Cadillac doesn't plan to build the Elevated Velocity, but its appearance and features will influence the brand's upcoming performance models.
