What is Ex-Boyfriend Toast? Viral internet story now a hot seller in New York's PHiL Cafe
Food does not always go viral for its flavour – sometimes, it is the story that sells. That is the case with 'Ex-Boyfriend Toast'.
This simple dish – a slice of toasted bread topped with cream cheese and blueberry jam – has evolved from a viral internet post in Korea to a popular item at a cafe in Brooklyn, New York City.
'Treat yourself to a delicious toast – made with
blueberry preserves and cream cheese – that has an interesting background story as to why it got its name!' reads the item description on PHiL Cafe's Uber Eats menu.
Priced at US$10, it is reportedly one of the cafe's most frequently ordered items.
The backstory involves a Korean woman who missed the toast her ex-boyfriend used to make for her. After their break-up, she texted him asking for the recipe – making it clear she was not trying to rekindle the relationship. To her surprise, he sent back a detailed set of instructions.

Why so few Asian-Americans in the Karate Kid series? How new movie Legends addresses this
It did not occur to Ben Wang right away that in taking on Karate Kid: Legends, he would be the franchise's first Asian-American 'Kid'. And that gives him a lot of optimism. Advertisement 'At first I didn't even think about that,' Wang says. 'That feels like a very cool and actually privileged position that I get to be in.' His casting happened, he says, in 'a world where that's normal enough'. (From left) Jackie Chan, Ben Wang and Ralph Macchio in a still from Karate Kid: Legends. Kimberly Belflower knew John Proctor is the Villain needed its final cathartic scene to work – and for that it needed Lorde's 2017 song 'Green Light'. Advertisement 'I literally told my agent, 'I would rather the play just not get done if it can't use that song,'' the playwright laughed. She wrote Lorde a letter, explaining what the song meant, and got her 'Green Light'. Starring Sadie Sink, the staggering play about high schoolers studying Arthur Miller's 1953 play The Crucible as the #MeToo movement arrives in their small town in the US state of Georgia earned seven Tony nominations. It is among a group of Broadway shows that have centred on the stories of young people and attracted audiences to match. Advertisement
