Staged gun attack for police cover backfires, four held in Sangrur
The mastermind, Milanjot Singh, a preacher and resident of Sherpur, is still on the run, police said.
Sangrur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal said on July 29, Milanjot filed a complaint, stating that around 9 pm the previous night, he and his brother-in-law Jaswinder Singh were returning home from Mohali in separate cars.
Meanwhile, a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz car started following them. As they reached home and parked their cars, three unidentified individuals in the Ciaz fired at Jaswinder's car, before fleeing, Milanjot alleged.
Following his complaint, police had lodged an FIR under Section 324 (4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Arms Act.
However, as the probe deepened, police discovered that Milanjot and Jaswinder concocted a fake attack, planning and executing the entire incident. They allegedly paid the three 'shooters' ₹1.20 lakh to carry out the firing.
Cracking the case, police arrested the 'shooters', along with Jaswinder, while Milanjot, the primary conspirator, is absconding.
Police also recovered a .32-bore pistol, two live cartridges, one empty shell casing, the Ciaz car used in the incident, and ₹50,000 in cash.
Following the revelations, police added Sections 217 (false information), 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 25, 26 (act not intended to cause death, done by consent in good faith for person's benefit) and 61 (2) (criminal conspiracy) of the BNS to the FIR.
Deputy superintendent of police Devinder Attri said the four arrested men were on police remand, and efforts were on to recover the pending amount and arrest Milanjot.

New Delhi [India], August 14 (ANI): Delhi Police have cracked a murder case within just eight hours, leading to the arrest of four suspects. The police also recovered critical evidence, including two blood-stained knives, the victim's motorcycle, and the blood-soaked clothes worn by the attackers during the crime, said the police. The three suspects have been identified as Pravesh (20), Pankaj Kake (23), and Ajay Akshay (28), all residents of Ram Nagar, Nabi Karim. Bansi sustained multiple stab wounds and was 'declared dead upon arrival" at the promptly registered a case under Sections 103(1)/3(5) of BNS at Nabi Karim Police Station, said the a combination of CCTV footage analysis, local intelligence, technical surveillance, and human informants, the police team launched an intensive search operation spanning Raghubir Nagar, Anand Parbat, Sadar Bazar, Paharganj, Nabi Karim, and the NCR the investigation, police seized two blood-stained knives believed to be the murder weapons, along with a motorcycle belonging to the deceased. The blood-stained clothes worn by the attackers at the time of the crime were also recovered. Further scrutiny revealed that Pravesh and Pankaj had prior criminal involvement, with a case registered against them under Sections 324/34 IPC at Nabi Karim Police Station. While four accused are in custody, one suspect, Shiva, remains at large. Police have intensified raids to track him down, said the police. (ANI)

Man beaten to death over parking dispute, three held in Odisha
ROURKELA: A 40-year-old man was reportedly beaten to death by three persons over a parking dispute near the crowded Aam Bagan market under Sector 19 police limits here on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as Sheikh Laltu of Bibekanandpalli slum near Telephone Bhawan in Sector 6. Police on Wednesday arrested Sheikh Azad (35), Sheikh Qurban (41) and Sheikh Mustafa (19) of the same slum. Deputy SP (DSP) J Panda said at around 7.20 pm on Tuesday, Laltu had a heated argument with Azad over parking of an auto-rickshaw near the Aam Bagan market area. Soon after, Qurban and Mustafa joined Azad and had a scuffle with Laltu. The situation turned ugly after Raja hit Laltu on the head with a wooden plank. Panda said while Laltu collapsed on the spot, the three accused fled. Laltu was rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) where he succumbed to the head injury during treatment. Police inspected the crime scene with the help of scientific team and seized the body for autopsy after registering a case. Sources said after the incident, supporters of Laltu damaged a couple of vehicles parked near Aam Bagan market. On being informed, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. IIC of Sector 19 police station Ranjan Nayak said the three accused persons were arrested under sections 126 (2), 115 (2), 103 (1) and 3 (5) of BNS. They were produced in court on Wednesday evening. Laltu reportedly had criminal antecedents. Criminal history of the accused persons is under verification, said police.

Rape accused convicted within 99 days of crime in Odisha
JHARSUGUDA: The court of the additional district and sessions judge-cum-special POCSO Court on Wednesday handed a 54-year-old man life imprisonment for the rape of a minor blind girl in Jharsuguda. It was one of the quickest conviction which was achieved within 99 days of the occurrence of the crime. Judge Puja Sarangi convicted the accused under section 64(2)(K) of the BNS and section 6 of the POCSO Act, and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000. The case was registered in Rengali police station on May 6. The survivor, a blind minor girl, had gone to the accused's house to watch television but the latter raped her. After the FIR was registered, the accused was arrested two days later on May 8. Within 22 days of the FIR, on May 28, the police filed the chargesheet. The case was closely monitored, and on August 13, exactly 99 days later, the court delivered its judgment. The probe was led by Rengali OIC Samarendra Nayak under the supervision of Jharsuguda SP Smit P Parmar.
