Citi, Ant International pilot AI-powered FX tool for clients to help cut hedging costs

Time of India18-07-2025
Citigroup and Singapore-based financial technology firm Ant International have launched a pilot program using artificial intelligence to help clients better manage foreign exchange risk, the companies said on Friday.
The program combines Citi's Fixed FX Rates solution, which is widely used by the banks' clients in sectors such as e-commerce, with Ant International's Falcon Time-Series Transformer model, an AI forecasting tool that helps businesses reduce hedging FX costs, according to a joint statement.
The pilot program, developed initially for aviation clients, has already been used in live transactions with a major Asian airline able to reduce cost in its fixed FX hedging for online ticket sales, the companies said.
"The 30 per cent hedging cost savings Ant International has achieved for the pilot airline customer shows the cost efficiency that can be achieved with AI-enabled FX hedging," Kelvin Li, general manager of Platform Tech at Ant International, said.
"We are excited to expand the solution with Citi to serve more businesses and industries," he added.
Ant International is an affiliate of China's fin tech giant Ant Group, founded by billionaire Jack Ma. It provides global digital payment, digitisation and financial technology and has operations across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.
The launch came six months after Citi began rolling out new AI tools to be used by employees in eight countries, providing such access to 140,000 employees globally.
Large banks have been using AI tools in more targeted ways. Morgan Stanley has a chatbot that helps financial advisors in interactions with clients, and Bank of America's virtual assistant Erica focuses on day-to-day transactions of retail clients.>

Passengers' association urge extension of Gomateshwara and CSMT Express to Mangaluru Central

Mangaluru-based Paschima Karavali Railway Yatri Abhivridhi Samithi on August 7 urged the Southern Railways to extend two trains, now being terminated at Mangaluru Junction, to Mangaluru Central, expedite construction of railway over bridge at Pandeshwar Level Crossing, besides putting forth some other crucial demands. Samithi President G. Hanumanth Kamath and member G. K. Bhat submitted a memorandum in this regard to SR's Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Madhukar Roat during his visit to Mangaluru. Despite earlier promises to extend Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Junction-Yeshwantpur (16575/576) tri-weekly Gomateshwara Express and a weekly (16539/540) train to Mangaluru Central, Palakkad division is yet to implement the promise, to the dismay of patrons from Mangaluru. Earlier the division cited platform constraint at Central. Now, after the commissioning of two new platforms (4 and 5), the division is giving some other excuse, the Samithi stated. Similar is the case with the long-pending demand to extend Train No. 12133/134 Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Mangaluru Junction-Mumbai CSMT Superfast Express to Central. Mr. Kamath urged the division to extend the service at the earliest. He also sought swapping of terminals for Train No. 16859/860 Chennai Egmore-Mangaluru Central-Chennai Egmore and Train No. 16575/576 Gomateshwara Express, and shifting the terminal for a few south-bound trains from Central to Junction to give room for Karnataka and Mumbai-bound trains. RoB at Pandeshwar Stating that the level crossing at Pandeshwar on the busy Mangaladevi Road was causing severe traffic snarls, the Samithi urged the division to expedite construction of a Railway Over Bridge. Mr. Bhat pointed out that the Railway Ministry has already approved the proposal under 50:50 cost sharing basis between the Railways and the government of Karnataka, as per information obtained under RTI. The now vacant Bunder Goods Shed Yard may be used as a coaching depot, Mr. Bhat suggested. The Samithi sought reintroduction of Mangaluru Central-Vaishnodevi Katra Navyug Express while demanding immediate introduction of the already sanctioned Mangaluru Central-Bhavnagar bi-weekly express. Mr. Bhat suggested extending a couple of Chennai-Mangaluru Central services till Madgaon, as Madgaon and Chennai lack direct connectivity via Coimbatore. The DRM promised to look into the demands, Mr. Kamath said.
