New Delhi:
To deal with the rush of Kanwariyas on the eve of Shiv Ratri, Delhi Traffic Police on Tuesday said restrictions will be imposed on the movement of buses and commercial vehicles in the national capital from 9 am to 12 midnight.
It also issued a traffic advisory informing people about road closures and alternative routes.
A large number of devotees are expected to visit the Hanuman Mandir in the Yamuna Bazar area and this could affect traffic. Congestion is likely along Ring Road, particularly on Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Yudhister Setu and Boulevard Road, the advisory stated.
To ensure smooth traffic management and public safety, restrictions will be imposed on the movement of buses and commercial vehicles from 9 am to 12 midnight, it read.
Vehicular movement on Yudhister Setu from Tis Hazari to Shahdara will be restricted for all buses and commercial vehicles.
On Boulevard Road, the movement of commercial vehicles will not be allowed from ISBT Kashmiri Gate towards Tis Hazari. Their movement will also be prohibited on Lothian Road from GPO Chowk to ISBT Kashmiri Gate during the specified hours, the advisory said.
To regulate the flow of traffic, diversions will be put in place at key locations, including Kashmiri Gate metro station's gate no. 5 on Boulevard Road near the ascending foot of Yudhister Setu, near the out gate of ISBT Kashmiri Gate on Ring Road, and at GPO Chowk, it said.
These diversions are intended to redirect commercial vehicles away from the heavily congested areas and towards alternative routes, it added.
Traffic police said commercial vehicles coming from the Hanuman Mandir side via Ring Road and headed towards Tis Hazari will be diverted from the out gate of ISBT Kashmiri Gate.
These vehicles will take a longer route via Ring Road, Yamuna Marg, Raj Niwas Marg, Rajpur Road, Dr. Karnwal Road and reach Baraf Khana Chowk, from where they can continue towards their destinations, they said.
Buses and commercial vehicles coming from the Tis Hazari side and moving towards Yudhister Setu will also be rerouted, the advisory said.
They will be diverted from Kashmiri Gate metro station's gate no. 5 and redirected to Ring Road, from where they will take a left turn, make a U-turn near monastery and continue on Ring Road past Hanuman Mandir. From there, they will proceed towards Outer Ring Road, Akshardham Mandir and then NH-24, it said.

Sarita Vihar flyover in south Delhi closes partially for urgent repair from today

New Delhi: Delhi Traffic Police will close the Badarpur-Ashram carriageway of the Sarita Vihar flyover for urgent repair and rehabilitation work from Friday. One of the busiest arterial corridors in south Delhi will remain partially shut till Aug 8. According to a traffic advisory, Public Works Department will undertake the round-the-clock repair and structural rehabilitation to ensure long-term safety and maintain smooth traffic flow on the crucial stretch. The traffic police urged commuters to avoid the affected stretch during this period. To manage diversions and prevent bottlenecks, police have suggested two alternatives. The first route is for vehicles coming from Badarpur Border and heading towards Ashram via Mathura Road. These vehicles can take MB Road, proceed to Pul Prahladpur and Lal Kuan, then take the right turn towards Maa Anandmai Marg. Passing through Crown Plaza and Govindpuri, they can turn right towards the Modi Mill flyover and turn left towards Mathura Road to reach Ashram. Rush hour traffic crawls, cops open DME for cars

Ghaziabad: In light of heavy traffic congestion at the border on NH-9 and DME following showers on Wednesday morning, traffic police removed restrictions on light vehicles on the DME. The expressway had previously been closed from Sunday night to ensure safe passage for kanwar pilgrims. ACP (traffic) Ziauddin Ahmad said that the number of pilgrims using the stretch had reduced significantly with Shivratri celebrations in full swing, therefore, there was no longer a necessity to close the expressway, and restrictions were eased to solve the heavy congestion. It took more than two hours for traffic police to control the situation. Kunal Verma, a commuter stuck in snarls on Wednesday, told TOI that it took him more than two hours to cross the Ghazipur area. Some police personnel were managing the traffic movement, he said. "One of the commuters' cars also broke down at the Ghazipur side, and this made more difficulties for people. Around noon, I reached the office in Delhi, and I left my house in Crossings Republik at 9.15am," he said. Vehicles were diverted to the Kaushambi side to travel to Delhi via Bhopura. More than 25 traffic police personnel were present at the spot along with local police to execute the diversion plan and manage traffic. On easing restrictions further, the ACP said, "The restrictions on heavy vehicles are still in place, and we will review the situation this evening. There are possibilities that heavy vehicles will also be allowed by tonight." Previously, entry points to the expressway at Khoda, ABES College, Crossings Republik, Dasna, and Bhojpur were closed for public use. Delhi-bound traffic was diverted to NH-9, which runs parallel to the DME. Traffic police had imposed a ban on all types of vehicles on DME from Sunday night but partially reopened it on Monday for one hour, between 11am and noon, to ease traffic movement. Similarly, on Tuesday, between 10am and noon, the restrictions were temporarily relaxed as numerous office-goers and commuters reached DME entry points requesting access due to work and business obligations.

Shrawan Shivratri marked by devotees thronging KV Dham

1 2 3 4 5 6 Varanasi: After two Mondays of the auspicious Shrawan month, Varanasi witnessed a massive influx of saffron-clad Kanwariyas converging at Kashi Vishwanath Temple for Shravan Shivratri on Wednesday. While thousands of pilgrims offered Jalabhishek to Lord Shiv amid chants and flower showers around the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, traffic restrictions left people in old city areas as well as on roads leading to the Prayagraj highway, struggling while Kanwariya groups managed to enter the city with DJ vehicles in large numbers. In anticipation of the heavy footfall, authorities enforced stringent traffic restrictions from Church Crossing to Godaulia and from the Ganga ghats to the temple premises. However, the movement curbs—originally slated only for Sunday night to Monday night—continued to create serious bottlenecks through Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents of Pakka Mahal, in particular, were severely affected, with many barred from using the alleys to commute to school or other destinations. Even pedestrian access from Church Crossing to Godaulia was halted, leaving schoolchildren and local commuters stranded. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Enhance Online Presence and Get Customers [Try Now] Undo In response to mounting complaints, Dashashwamedh Chowki In-charge Anujmani Tiwari, accompanied by constables Dinesh Singh and Sachin Rao, intervened at Bansphatak. The team removed barricades and instructed on-duty personnel to allow vehicular access for locals and Pakka Mahal residents. Despite a no-entry directive, DJ-equipped trucks, tractors, and Kanwar-decorated vehicles were seen parked along narrow roads in areas like Luxa, Kamachha, Bhelupura, Vinayaka, and Rath Yatra. The haphazard parking created severe congestion near schools, hospitals, and marketplaces. The situation was particularly dire at the Mohansarai Highway intersection, where traffic on the Varanasi–Prayagraj route came to a standstill. Long queues of vehicles choked both sides of the highway, impacting ambulances, school buses, passenger transport, and labourers commuting to the city. Traders and farmers heading to and from the Rajatalab vegetable market also bore the brunt of the gridlock. Despite the spiritual fervour and festive atmosphere, the lack of streamlined traffic management has raised serious concerns among residents, particularly as more Mondays of Shrawan remain ahead.
