No lives lost: MMEA's STAR team praised for heroic rescue after PDRM helicopter crash in Sungai Pulai
In a Facebook post, the MMEA said the ten team members were the first responders who dived into the river to rescue and extract five members of the Air Operations Force (PGU) onto a safety boat despite the chaotic situation.
'The team, led by Peninsular Malaysia STAR Team deputy squadron leader, Maritime Lieutenant Nur Mohd Farhan Mohd Hamil, showed great bravery and professionalism in rescuing all victims without any loss of life,' the post read.
In the 10.15 am incident yesterday, the PDRM-owned AS355N helicopter with registration number 9M-PHG crashed during the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM) 2025, a joint exercise involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, held at the Gelang Patah Maritime Jetty.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), in a statement, said the helicopter departed from the Tanjung Kupang Police Station at 9.51 am, carrying five individuals, including the pilot.
Yesterday, two of the five police officers involved in the incident were reported to be in critical condition, requiring respiratory assistance and treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA), Johor Bahru.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Datuk Seri Azmi Abu Kassim was quoted today as saying that three of the victims had been placed in regular wards, one remained sedated and was receiving intensive care in the ICU, while another was also being treated in the same unit. — Bernama

Caught on camera: Police hunt George Town man who smashed car with metal rod
GEORGE TOWN, July 12 — Police are tracking down a local man in connection with a car vandalism incident involving a metal rod on Jalan Lebuh Pantai here, which was caught on video and has since gone viral on social media. In a statement today, Northeast District deputy police chief Supt Lee Swee Sake said a 25-year-old man lodged a report at 7.55 pm yesterday. The incident occurred around 4 pm when the complainant's vehicle was struck by a Perodua Myvi driven by the suspect. A month after deadly crash, surviving UPSI students resume studies, but only three in campus
JELI, July 12 — All Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students who survived last month's fatal bus crash in Gerik have since resumed classes, though the majority are doing so online. Only three students are attending classes at the main Tanjung Malim, Perak campus, Bernama reported Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir saying today. 'Several others are still undergoing treatment but are continuing their studies online. None of the injured students have deferred their studies,' he was quoted telling reporters after officiating the Jeli Umno division delegates meeting here. Zambry also confirmed that all the injured students have been discharged from hospital. 'The last injured student was discharged on July 8 from Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu. Three have since resumed their studies on campus, while the rest are attending classes online,' he was quoted as saying. The crash involved a chartered bus ferrying UPSI students and a Perodua Alza along the Gerik-Jeli route in the early hours of the morning on June 9. The students were returning from Jertih in Terengganu to their Perak campus after the Aidiladha holidays. Fifteen students were killed while another 33 people sustained injuries, including the bus driver and attendant, as well as the Perodua Alza's driver and three passengers.
