In a statement released by Sabah Umno information chief Datuk Suhaimi Nasir, the party reiterated that BN is not closing its doors to political collaboration.

The statement comes in response to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) secretary-general Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun's statement recently, saying the coalition shares the same sentiment regarding Sabah BN's reluctance to team up in PRN17. However, Masidi said they have not made a firm decision on the matter until the Supreme Council meeting, which is expected to take place either this month or early July. 'During the last state election, certain political collaborations led to unfavourable consequences for BN, particularly in terms of integrity, trust and a shared political direction,' Suhaimi said. 'This is not merely about ideological differences, but also about political sincerity and consistency in leadership,' he added. He emphasised that Sabah Umno and BN's current approach is to assess any potential alliance objectively, rationally and strategically, without haste or in response to short-term political demands. 'We will not repeat past mistakes, nor will we allow Sabah Umno to once again be placed in a political position that sidelines the voices of our grassroots members,' Suhaimi added. He also stressed that determining Sabah's future should not be reduced to a numbers game of how many parties can come together at the negotiating table. Instead, it must be about forming a coalition that can ensure long-term stability, integrity and development for the people. Sabah Umno and BN's decision to adopt a more cautious stance, Suhaimi said, is a constructive step, not a confrontational one. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Hamas says Iran 'paying the price' for supporting Gaza militants

CAIRO: The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas said Iran, its strategic ally, was 'paying the price' for supporting militant groups in Gaza in their decades-long struggle against Israel, after Israel launched large-scale attacks on Friday against Iran. Hamas leaders have repeatedly thanked Iran for its military and financial support to the group in its fight against Israel, including during the ongoing war that erupted in October 2023. 'Iran is today paying the price for its steadfast positions in support of Palestine and its resistance, and its adherence to its independent national decision,' Hamas said in a statement. Tehran has vowed retaliation for Israel's early morning attack on Iranian military and nuclear facilities that killed several top commanders. Israel said it was working to intercept 100 drones that were launched by Iran, but had not reached Israel. Hamas armed wing spokesperson Abu Ubaida said in a post on Telegram later on Friday that the group would stand by Iran in its conflict against Israel. 'The Zionist enemy is completely deluded if it thinks that these treacherous strikes can undermine the fronts of resistance or stabilize the pillars of this fragile entity in the region,' he said. 'On the contrary, it continues to make successive strategic mistakes that will bring it closer to its inevitable demise, God willing.'

Submit financials first, Prime Minister tells police co-op on aid for debts

Published on: Friday, June 13, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 13, 2025 By: Minderjeet Kaur, FMT Text Size: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said if the cooperative performs with the new projects, the government will consider allowing it to take on more next year. Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has asked the police cooperative to submit a detailed report on its financial performance before the government considers ways to help it reduce the debts of its subsidiary, Unikop College. Speaking at Koperasi PDRM Bhd's 90th annual general delegates meeting here, Anwar said the government would monitor the cooperative's performance. Advertisement 'I will approve two or three projects for the cooperative. But I want to see a report from the cooperative and the home ministry first. 'We will look at how they can work with the finance ministry to find alternatives and ensure that the cooperative can generate profits,' he added. Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said if the cooperative performed with the new projects, the government would consider allowing it to take on more next year. 'But it must prove its efficiency.' He said the government preferred to provide cost-effective projects instead of handing out financial grants. He added that the government could not write off all of Unikop College's debts, but would assess its performance over the next few years. Bukit Aman management department director Azmi Abu Kassim said that Unikop College's debts dated back to 2018, stemming from poor decisions that led to losses and leakage. However, he did not disclose the amount of the debt. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
