Hajiji: 13MP projects aligned with SMJ development goals
KOTA KINABALU (July 31): The State Government has welcomed the development programmes and funding allocations for Sabah under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which are strongly aligned with the state's development blueprint, the Halatuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ).
'This also clearly reflects federal support for Sabah under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,' said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor.
He expressed his satisfaction that several high-impact projects proposed by the State Government had been included in the 13MP. These include the expansion of critical utilities such as water supply, sewerage systems, and power transmission, as well as strategic infrastructure projects involving roads, flood mitigation and healthcare, along with the establishment of a Blue Economy Hub.
Hajiji also noted that the Federal Government will prioritise the Sabah-Sarawak-Kalimantan road network, which complements the relocation of Indonesia's capital to Nusantara in East Kalimantan.
Other key focus areas include intensive poverty alleviation initiatives, support for digital transformation, and strengthening the resilience of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
'The present State Government has charted a plan to ensure Sabah continues to progress,' he said.

Govt to hold 2026 Budget consultation council this week
KUALA LUMPUR: The government will hold the 2026 Budget Consultation Council this week to gather feedback from stakeholders for the national budget, which is scheduled to be tabled in October. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the engagement session is part of the Madani government's efforts to ensure the national budget reflects the needs and aspirations of both the people and industry players. "The engagement session will be held this Thursday, Aug 7. Essentially, it is part of an ongoing effort to gather feedback from various stakeholders, including their aspirations for the 2026 Budget," he said. "This will take into account the various ongoing initiatives and policies currently being implemented, while also considering the current geopolitical situation and prevailing challenges," he said after attending the Chief Human Resources Officer Nexus Forum. Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh was also present. Fahmi added that the government would also devote more time to understand the needs of the people and listen to the views of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which form the backbone of the national economy. He said MSMEs contribute approximately 70 per cent of employment for Malaysians. "As such, it is important for the government to understand the issues they are facing," he said. Fahmi said this Thursday's session would mark the first of many such engagements, which would be intensified in the coming weeks. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had also advised all ministries to conduct engagement sessions with the Finance Ministry to present their views, he said. "Based on the 13th Malaysia Plan, which we hope to pass next week, we will then determine the specific areas that should be prioritised in the 2026 Madani Budget under the first rolling plan," he said, adding that the engagement process is expected to continue until the final draft is completed. The 2026 Supply Bill (Budget) is scheduled to be tabled on Oct 10, according to Parliament's meeting agenda. Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan said the national budget will continue Malaysia's trajectory of reform, inclusivity, and resilience.

Govt backbencher, opposition MPs clash during Prime Minister's Question Time in Parliament
KUALA LUMPUR: Tensions flared in the Dewan Rakyat this morning when a government backbencher got into a shouting match with an opposition member of Parliament over Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin's remarks on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). The exchange began when the opposition leader posed a question to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding the 13MP, which was tabled last week. During a supplementary question, Hamzah said the 13MP lacked firmness in addressing the socioeconomic gap between Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera communities. "This isn't specifically about developing new Chinese villages. But when other MPs bring it up, what can I do?" he said. His remarks did not sit well with Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH–Hulu Langat), who interjected and asked the Larut MP, "Is this a debate?" He reminded the House that the session was Prime Minister's Question Time, not a debate. Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) then rose to defend Hamzah, questioning Sany's interruption. "Why are you interrupting the opposition leader? You keep interjecting. Just let him speak," he said. Sany shot back, reminding Hamzah and Wan Fayhsal that the session was meant for questions directed at the Prime Minister, not a debate. "Kau kenapa koyak? Koyak pula engkau."
