"The big variable here is, obviously, the status of Caitlin Clark. The Fever improved to 3-4 sans Clark this season with last Friday's win over the now-five-win Dallas Wings, but the first-place Lynx present an entirely different challenge. They'd lost only twice entering Sunday's game vs. Connecticut and have a veteran roster led by WNBA All-Star team captain Napheesa Collier.
"The Fever should be well-rested and I think that will help them keep it close, regardless of Clark's status. But that's a really, really good Lynx team and they should be especially dialed in with the (checks notes) Commissioner's Cup hanging in the balance."
The WNBA's in-season tournament. Each of the six Eastern Conference teams played one game against each other from early to mid June. Each of the seven Western Conference teams played one game against each other. The Indiana Fever had the best record in the East, while the Minnesota Lynx won the West.
The winning team divides $500,000. The game MVP gets $5,000. Players on the losing team get $10,000 each. Players will also receive cryptocurrency.

That hasn't been decided. Fever coach Stephanie White said Sunday: 'We're just trying to progress slowly. Making sure we don't have any setbacks.'

WNBA Player Reacts to Being Released After Temporarily Leaving Team

WNBA Player Reacts to Being Released After Temporarily Leaving Team originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As WNBA teams prepare their rosters for the rest of the season, several have made significant changes to their lineups. Advertisement On Monday, teams around the league announced the return of those who were participating in the 2025 Women's FIBA EuroBasket tournament. With the return of these players also came the release of several players around the league. Golden State Valkyries guard Julie Vanloo was dealt unfortunate news in her return to the team. "Roster Update: The Golden State Valkyries have waived guard Julie Vanloo," posted the official social media account of the Golden State Valkyries. "Thank you, Julie." The Belgian-born point guard — who is fresh off the 2025 EuroBasket win — soon responded to the news on social media, sharing the Valkyries' announcement while attaching an emotional response. Advertisement "Litterally (sic) just touched down in the bay," Vanloo said. "I need some time to process all of this man and put my feels into words. I can't right now." Julie Vanloo posted an emotional response on Instagram after the Valkyries waived Vanloo, Instagram Vanloo was playing in her second season in the WNBA and first season with the Golden State Valkyries. Minnesota Lynx Coach Issues Strong Statement Before Championship Game Against Fever

Minnesota Lynx Coach Issues Strong Statement Before Championship Game Against Fever originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's a lot of hype surrounding the much-anticipated matchup between the Minnesota Lynx and the Indiana Fever on Tuesday night. These two teams will go head-to-head in a winner-take-all clash for the right to become the 2025 Commissioner's Cup champions. Advertisement Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve has added to the buzz by sending a strong message ahead of her team's quest to defend their Commissioner's Cup title. The veteran shot-caller revealed how much her players are looking forward to this game. "I'm really happy for the players," Reeve said. "They are excited to play in this game, as I'm sure Indy is as well. "We've said this before winning the Cup, it's hardware. And money, right? So when there's money on the line and, they've talked about they're going to make more money in a Commissioner's Cup game than what they will in a deep playoff run. "And so this is really meaningful to them, especially some of our younger players. And the veterans are very aware of the meaning of that." Cheryl Reeve hopes to lead the Minnesota Lynx to another WNBA Commissioner's Cup title. © Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports The Lynx clearly have no shortage of motivation in this one. As Reeve touched on in her statement, the $500,000 prize money is something that has inspired her players. At the same time, winning a championship means everything to them as well. Advertisement "What's it mean? You want it," she continued. "You want it whatever the name of the championship, whatever it is, call it whatever kind of cup, whatever its championship, you want the hardware. This would be a feather in the cap for this team." There is no doubt that the Fever are pretty much in the same boat in terms of their desire to bring home the trophy. The big question, however, is whether Caitlin Clark will be able to play. The 23-year-old, who has missed Indiana's last two games due to a groin injury, has officially been listed as questionable for Tuesday's clash. Sue Bird Reveals How Indiana Fever Can Beat Lynx for Commissioner's Cup

Sue Bird Reveals How Indiana Fever Can Beat Lynx for Commissioner's Cup originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Indiana Fever are only 8-8 on the season thus far, but managed to arrange those wins rather nicely. Four of them came in Commissioner's Cup games, which put Indiana at 4-1 in the in-season tournament standings, and earned them the right to play in the final on Tuesday night in Minnesota. Advertisement There is something to be said for winning here, too. Players on the winning side of the tournament bring home $30,000 each, a big boost in a league in which the average player makes just under $150,000. It will be the marquee matchup of the week in the WNBA, and of course, the top question is whether Caitlin Clark, who is struggling with a groin injury, will play. SHe missed the past two games with the injury, and is listed as "questionable" by the team heading into Tuesday. Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22).Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images Assuming Clark can go--she practiced on Sunday--there are some ways that Indiana can knock off the Lynx, who are a league-best 14-2 this season, and are 6.5-point favorites in the game. Advertisement Soon-to-be Hall of Fame point guard Sue Bird--a four-time WNBA champion and a five-time Olympic gold medalist--explained on her podcast what she felt Indiana could do to pull off the upset. She went to the numbers. "Can Indiana, who is 11th in opponents free-throw attempts, stop fouling Minnesota?" Bird said. "Because you cannot—you cannot—give Minnesota easy points. You gotta keep them off the free-throw line. Also, can Indiana, who is in the bottom half of the league in turnovers, limit them against a defense that is third in forcing turnovers? Those are two quick areas you can keep your eye on." The Fever allow 23.3 free-throw tries per game. Minnesota averages 85.3 points per game, which is No. 2 in the WNBA, and shoots a league-high 46.7% from the field on the season. The Fever commit 13.4 turnovers per game, while Minnesota forces 14.2 per game. Advertisement That analysis from Bird, though, is reliant on one major factor: Clark's health. "We don't know whether Caitlin is playing, this is a huge, huge asterisk. It changes everything," Bird said.
