The Indiana Fever are only 8-8 on the season thus far, but managed to arrange those wins rather nicely. Four of them came in Commissioner's Cup games, which put Indiana at 4-1 in the in-season tournament standings, and earned them the right to play in the final on Tuesday night in Minnesota.

There is something to be said for winning here, too. Players on the winning side of the tournament bring home $30,000 each, a big boost in a league in which the average player makes just under $150,000.
It will be the marquee matchup of the week in the WNBA, and of course, the top question is whether Caitlin Clark, who is struggling with a groin injury, will play. SHe missed the past two games with the injury, and is listed as "questionable" by the team heading into Tuesday.

Assuming Clark can go--she practiced on Sunday--there are some ways that Indiana can knock off the Lynx, who are a league-best 14-2 this season, and are 6.5-point favorites in the game.

Soon-to-be Hall of Fame point guard Sue Bird--a four-time WNBA champion and a five-time Olympic gold medalist--explained on her podcast what she felt Indiana could do to pull off the upset.
She went to the numbers.
"Can Indiana, who is 11th in opponents free-throw attempts, stop fouling Minnesota?" Bird said. "Because you cannot—you cannot—give Minnesota easy points. You gotta keep them off the free-throw line. Also, can Indiana, who is in the bottom half of the league in turnovers, limit them against a defense that is third in forcing turnovers? Those are two quick areas you can keep your eye on."
The Fever allow 23.3 free-throw tries per game. Minnesota averages 85.3 points per game, which is No. 2 in the WNBA, and shoots a league-high 46.7% from the field on the season. The Fever commit 13.4 turnovers per game, while Minnesota forces 14.2 per game.

That analysis from Bird, though, is reliant on one major factor: Clark's health.
"We don't know whether Caitlin is playing, this is a huge, huge asterisk. It changes everything," Bird said.

Caitlin Clark ruled out for a fourth straight game with groin injury, will sit vs. Aces

Caitlin Clark has been ruled out for Thursday's Indiana Fever game vs. the Las Vegas Aces. Clark (left groin strain) was a game-time decision for Tuesday's Commissioner's Cup championship win at Minnesota, but was ruled out for the third straight game shortly after the morning shootaround. Fever coach Stephanie White said Tuesday evening that Clark was making progress, but reiterated their long-term outlook and emphasis on avoiding setbacks. 'Making progress and feeling good are two different things,' White said. 'We want to make sure that she feels good. We want to make sure that she's confident. We want to make sure that we're not putting her in a position to have any setbacks. That's the that's the priority right now.' Clark has not played since June 24 at Seattle, when she logged six points on 23.1% shooting with zero 3-pointers, plus nine assists, eight turnovers and two rebounds. Clark, a WNBA All-Star captain, is averaging 18.2 points (39% FG, 29.5% 3PT), 5 rebounds and 8.9 assists through nine games. She averaged 12 points on 27.6% shooting with a 1-for-23 mark from 3 and totaled 28 assists over her past three games. Clark said at the beginning of the week she's doing everything she can with the medical staff to get her body right. The Fever play Las Vegas at 7 p.m. Thursday. The game will be televised on Prime Video.

Acrobat Red Panda takes scary tumble from elevated unicycle during WNBA halftime show

Red Panda, the popular halftime acrobat known for balancing bowls on her head while perched high on a unicycle, fell hard to the court Tuesday night while performing at the Commissioner's Cup final between the WNBA's Indiana Fever and Minnesota Lynx in Minneapolis. Riding on her custom-made unicycle at least 7 feet off the floor, Red Panda appeared to lose her balance early in her routine, then fell forward off her seat. She landed on her behind and immediately appeared to grab her left wrist. Video footage shows her being helped to her feet and taking numerous steps with assistance before sitting back down on the court. A wheelchair was eventually brought out to help her off the floor. As of Wednesday morning, no updates on her status had been given. The Lynx directed questions toward a representative for Red Panda, who did not immediately respond to an email from The Times. Born Rong Niu in Taiyuan, China, reportedly in the early 1970s, Red Panda is a fourth-generation acrobat who was first hired to perform during halftime at an NBA game by the Los Angeles Clippers in 1993. She has since been a staple at NBA games and numerous other athletic events, with her signature routine of using her feet to flip bowls onto her head while balancing high on her unicycle. Niu suffered a broken arm more than a decade ago after falling backwards off her unicycle while practicing. At Game 5 between the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder last month, Red Panda gave a quick list off the top of her head of all the NBA Finals at which she has performed. It was extensive. 'Oh my God,' she said. 'I did it for L.A. I did it for Chicago Bulls — that's many years ago for the [Michael] Jordan years. And then, I did San Antonio, I did Boston, Warriors, Detroit. ... And now I'm in OKC.' Without the services of injured superstar Caitlin Clark for the third straight game, Indiana defeated Minnesota 74-59 to win the Commissioner's Cup, the WNBA's in-season tournament, for the first time. As Fever guard Sydney Colsten live-streamed the players' locker room celebration, Clark leaned in front of the camera and wished the injured acrobat well. 'Red Panda, we love you,' said Clark, whose sentiments were echoed by several of her teammates.

Mexico vs. Honduras Odds, Best Bets: El Tri Favored In Gold Cup Semis

Alexis Vega (center) and Mexico enter the Gold Cup semifinals at Levi's Stadium on Wednesday night as the clear betting favorites vs. Honduras. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Mexico and USA have owned the CONCACAF Gold Cup since its inaugural edition back in 1991, with one of these countries winning this competition 16 of the 17 times it has taken place. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that oddsmakers expect yet another Mexico vs. USA matchup in the 2025 Gold Cup Final on Sunday. A Mexico-USA final would be the third final between those countries in the last four Gold Cups. But first, USA has to get through a semifinal matchup tonight against a tricky Guatemala side that stunned Canada in the quarterfinals. FIFA No. 17 Mexico has a tough opponent of its own: Honduras (FIFA No. 75), which is coming off an upset win over Panama in the quarterfinals. Oddsmakers see Mexico as the heavy favorites in tonight's game at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Mexico have not trailed at any point through four Gold Cup matches, and they have not been scored on since their tournament-opening 3-2 win over the Dominican Republic on June 15. Honduras' Gold Cup run got off to an ugly start in a 6-0 loss to Canada, but Los Catrachos rebounded with group stage wins over El Salvador and Curacao before upsetting Panama in PKs (5-4) last Saturday. Mexico vs. Honduras Betting Odds Below are the odds from three top sportsbooks in the two most popular markets for soccer matches: three-way moneyline and match winner. Gold Cup Semifinal Moneyline Odds: Mexico vs. Honduras The DraftKings, FanDuel and bet365 three-way moneyline odds below apply to today's result after 90 minutes, plus stoppage time. In this market, it doesn't matter whether the winner comes out on top in 90 minutes, extras or PKs. DK FD bet365 Mexico -700 -850 -550 Honduras +450 +490 +350 How to Watch Mexico vs. Honduras Gold Cup Semifinal Kickoff : 10 p.m. ET : 10 p.m. ET TV: FS1/Univision/TUDN Mexico vs. Honduras Betting Analysis, Pick Mexico boasts a couple well-known attacking pieces in AC Milan's Santiago Gimenez and Fulham's Raul Jimenez. To me, though, the biggest question tonight is whether Honduras can crack the Mexico back line, which has combined with keeper Luis Malagon to shut down Suriname, Costa Rica and Saudi Arabia over the last three games. Mexico's back-to-back-to-back clean sheets came while holding Saudi Arabia to 0 shots on goal (1 shot attempt), Costa Rica to 0 shots on goal (6 shot attempts) and Suriname to 2 shots on goal (5 attempts). Honduras has found a way to reach this point of the tournament despite scoring just five goals in four games. The underlying offensive metrics aren't great, either: Honduras' 1.39 expected goals (xG) vs. El Salvador marked the only time in this tournament when it had more than 1.25 xG. Expect Mexico -- which has enjoyed 60 percent of possession in all four of its Gold Cup games to date -- to control the ball tonight and limit Honduras to few, if any, legit scoring chances. I'm not convinced Mexico will win this one with much room to spare on the scoreboard, but I do expect El Tri to replicate the formula that got it here. Mexico vs. Honduras Gold Cup Semifinal Best Bets The best bets in this game are a parlay of Mexico winning plus the Under (the question is whether to go conservative with Under 3.5 or a bit more aggressive with Under 2.5), and Mexico to Win to Zero. And based on Mexico's last three games all featuring two total goals or fewer, Under 2.5 Goals is yet another tempting option, especially at -120. Mexico Win To Zero (-120 at DK) -- 1 unit Under 2.5 Goals (-120 at FD) -- 1 unit Parlay: Mexico to Win + Under 2.5 (+175 at DK) -- 0.5 units Newsweek may earn an affiliate commission if you sign up through the links in this article.
