NFL All Quarter Century Team: Players from the NFC West

NFL All Quarter Century Team: Players from the NFC West

USA Today5 hours ago

As we are in the dead of the offseason and there is almost nothing happening in the NFL until late July, now we get lists and rankings. ESPN put together an All Quarter Century Team for the NFL, constructing a 53-man roster with the best players of the last 25 years.
The roster is sprinkled with a few of Arizona Cardinals players, some who played for Arizona at the end of their careers and others who were longtime Cardinals, as well as players who spent time with all of the teams in the NFC West.
Who made the list?
NFL All Quarter Century Team: Players from the NFC West
Arizona Cardinals
OL Alan Faneca
DL Calais Campbell
DL J.J. Watt
CB Patrick Peterson
Faneca barely counts as a Cardinal as he is famous for his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he played his final NFL season in Arizona as a starter.
Campbell is an awesome addition because at no point in his career has he been considered a top-five defensive lineman. But his consistent production over nearly two decades earns him a spot.
Peterson was dominant for his first eight seasons in Arizona.
Watt was one of the best defenders we have seen. He spent the last two seasons of his career in Arizona and had 12.5 sacks in his last season in 2022.
LA Rams
DL Aaron Donald
LB Bobby Wagner
Donald is an obvious choice. Wagner also has been one of the best linebackers this generation, but he only played one season with the Rams.
San Francisco 49ers
RB Christian McCaffrey
FB Kyle Juszczyk
WR Terrell Owens
WR Randy Moss
OT Trent Williams
CB Richard Sherman
OC Kyle Shanahan
The 49ers have a ton of players on this list, although Moss only spent a season with them. Sherman's best came with Seattle.
Seattle Seahawks
OL Steve Hutchinson
LB Bobby Wagner
CB Richard Sherman
All three players were generational.

Struggling Patriots WR issues strong three-word statement before camp

New England Patriots second-year wide receiver Javon Baker is already hard at work preparing for training camp. With 12 receivers currently on the Patriots' roster, there are no guarantees that Baker will earn a spot on the team. He only had one catch for 12 yards in 2024, and that lone catch came against the Buffalo Bills in the regular season finale. Advertisement The competition at wide receiver will be much stiffer this time out with the additions of Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism III in the offseason. Baker will need a strong camp to convince the Patriots to keep him on the roster. "This [expletive] personal," Baker posted to his Instagram story in a video of his offseason workout. Baker appears to be heading into training camp with a clear focus on playing up to his full potential. He has shown flashes of that potential as a breakout receiving talent, but he has lacked consistency on the field. The hope is that he matures into an explosive playmaker for the Patriots outside of the numbers. That might be the only chance he has of sticking on the 53-man roster at this point. Shedeur Sanders Fighting For Browns' QB2

Shedeur Sanders Fighting For Browns' QB2 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are the NFL team with the most quarterbacks on their roster, as they currently have five. As a result, the team has to decide where all of those guys will go on their depth chart. Advertisement One of the team's field generals is former Colorado superstar Shedeur Sanders, who the team drafted in the fifth round after he slid all the way from the first. Some think he has some growing to do, but others say the Browns should trust him going into the 2025 season. "When you and me both know that this man has the most upside of any other quarterback on this roster, there is no way that Shedeur Sanders is not entering training camp, for me, as QB No. 2 on this Browns depth chart," analyst Earl Da Pearl said on 92.3 The Fan. There are realistically four guys that will be competing for the starting job in Cleveland, as Deshaun Watson is still recovering from an Achilles tear that he suffered this past season. As a result, Sanders has an even better chance of earning the job. The 23-year-old quarterback finished his final season with the Buffaloes with 4,134 yards and 27 touchdowns on 74 percent completion, all of which led the Big 12 Conference. Advertisement No matter how you feel about the confident QB, there is no denying that he is talented, and he will be looking to use that talent to earn the Browns' starting spot in his rookie season. Trey Smith Attends Chiefs Mandatory Minicamp

Trey Smith Attends Chiefs Mandatory Minicamp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas City Chiefs fans had not heard much news about their offensive lineman, Trey Smith, and his contract negotiations, but some of that changed this week - in a good way. Advertisement Smith, who was signed to the franchise tag earlier this offseason, was present at the start of the Chiefs' mandatory minicamp. Smith is seeking a long-term extension with the team, but general manager Brett Veach has not made any progress on a deal. According to Pro Football Focus, he was "expected to turn his attention toward negotiations after the draft," but at the moment, Smith remains on the one-year tag that would pay him $23.4 million in 2024. The Pro Bowl left guard was not present at Kansas City's voluntary activities after signing the tag. Many hope that his attendance this week can now kickstart some momentum in his long-term extension. The franchise tag allows the organization until mid-July to sign Smith, or else he'll play on the tag this season and become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. Advertisement Entering his fifth year in KC, Smith has been an instrumental part of the protection for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Smith, a sixth-round pick in 2021, has blossomed into a reliable figure, starting in 67 of the 68 Chiefs regular season games since being drafted. Last year, he was as steady as you could be, finishing the season with only two penalties (both holding) in his 1,117 snaps - 97% of the offensive plays. He will be an important piece of the Chiefs' offense, as Kansas City looks to remain atop the AFC and make their fourth straight trip to the Super Bowl this season.
