The match was played out after major thunderstorms caused torrential rain in the hours before kick off.
And trouble flared behind one of the goals during the second period, despite the genteel surroundings in one of the most picturesque spots in European football.
Our footage shows fans of the two teams throwing missiles such as bottles over a fence in place to segregate the two sets of fans.
It's unclear what sparked the violence, although at least one Hoops follower in the video has a Palestinian flag while Ajax make great play of their connection with the Jewish community in Holland.
Cops and security staff were kept busy attempting to keep them apart.
On the pitch, a double from Steven Berghuis added to goals from Davy Klaessen, Aaron Bouwman and Rayane Bounida as the Dutch side
Yang Hyun-Jun got the goal for Brendan Rodgers' men, sweeping in a fine finish after a sweeping move.
The Hoops will now face Al-Ahli in the third/fourth place match on Saturday evening.
More to follow.

Kilmarnock's Skye Stout sent message by Ally McCoist after vile abuse

The teenager was announced by Kilmarnock as a new signing for their SWPL2 side earlier this week but the club later deleted their posts after vile abuse was aimed at her. Trolls targeted Stout due to a skin condition but she has since received widespread support including from people such as former First Minister Humza Yousaf. There has also been tweets from former Celtic striker John Hartson, ex-Glasgow City midfielder Denise O'Sullivan and many others and now former Kilmarnock striker McCoist has also sent her a video message. It was shared online by BBC Scotland's Tam Cowan, who is a friend of McCoist's. Better known for his time at Rangers, McCoist recorded the video while travelling to work for TNT Sport in the Premier League. And he used that as an opportunity to tell Stout that things are not always glamourous with his flight to Birmingham cancelled. READ NEXT: Major fashion retailer set to close Glasgow store this month He enjoyed a laugh about that before telling Stout he was delighted to hear she had signed for Kilmarnock and says he hopes to get the chance to go and see her play for the Rugby Park club. In his video, he said: 'It's strange surroundings, so let me explain myself, my flight got cancelled and I'm now on a train to Birmingham to watch Aston Villa. 'This is the trials and tribulations of professional football for you, Skye. It's just a wee warning for you because I've just heard you've just signed for Kilmarnock, which is absolutely fantastic news. 'I played down there for three years, and it was three of the best years of my footballing life, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. It's a fantastic club with great people. 'You do well, Skye, enjoy your football and hopefully one of these days I'll get a chance to come and see you play. "Good luck.'

Mikey Moore on the Rangers night that left him 'fuming'

Watching on TV from home, he saw exactly what he was missing out on when he saw and heard that famous atmosphere under the lights on a European night. And to prove he was not mistaken, his teammates all told him it was one of the best they had ever played in. When the opportunity arose to head to Rangers on loan, that was still at the forefront of his mind. Speaking after making his debut in the cup win over Alloa Athletic, he said: "At the time I was out for a bit, so I couldn't come up (with Spurs), but I was watching on the TV and I was fuming that I couldn't. 'When they came back, the lads said it was one of the best atmospheres they've ever played in. 'When I heard about Rangers, that came straight into my mind. I remembered all the good things the boys said, so, I can't wait to play in that sort of atmosphere.' The legendary former goalscorer played for both clubs and was also Moore's coach in the Tottenham youth ranks. Moore added: "Obviously I spoke to Jermaine Defoe, being my coach at Tottenham and I'm really close to him now. 'I spoke to him about the club and he didn't say a bad word about it. 'He said 'it's an unbelievable place' and he said 'if you've got a chance to go there, then take it'. What a player. What a guy as well. 'I was a bit younger (when he was at Rangers), but I know that he was an unbelievable finisher as a striker and the fans loved him up here and he said he loved his time up here. 'I think he wishes he could have played here longer.'

Mikey Moore hopes Rangers stint can help him become one of top players in WORLD as Spurs loanee lifts lid on ambitions

But Moore has also signed a long-term deal with Spurs and hopes this campaign can put him on the path to global stardom. His next chance to shine is in the £40million Champions League play-off clash against Club Brugge, with the first leg at Ibrox on Tuesday night. Moore said: 'Performing well here to achieve what I want to at Spurs is a huge driving factor for me. 'I want to go and play in the biggest competitions and I want to hopefully be one of the best players in the world so it's massive for me. 'I've signed a new contract at Spurs but at the minute I'm focused on playing here so I'm just buzzing to go and play some massive games at this football club. 'I just want to play for this club and to become a better player. I think there are huge opportunities at this club and big games. 'It's a great club so I just want to play as many games as possible, score as many goals as I'm able to and excite as many people as I can.' League One Alloa - who had won all six of their games before Saturday - performed heroically at Ibrox and made life tough for Russell Martin's side. Billy Dodds on turning down Celtic for Rangers and surviving relegation scare with Aberdeen But Gers got the victory to set up a quarter-final clash at home with Livingston or Hibs. From being tipped for stardom at Spurs England Under-19s international Moore is now operating in the Old Firm goldfish bowl. He added: 'Yeah, I've experienced it a bit so far but it's not the same when you're not playing so now I'm involved in it I'll probably feel it more. 'But I think if I do what I'm good at and I go and play the way I know I can then I think everything will be all right. 'The manager's style here was a massive part of me hoping I'd join this club. I see the way the gaffer wants to play and it suits me a lot I think. 'It's attacking football and I get a lot of opportunities on the wing to go and show people what I can do. It helps me so I'm happy to be playing under the gaffer.' Moore missed out on sampling the European atmosphere under the lights at Ibrox last season. Jermain Defoe told him he couldn't pass up that chance again. Moore was sidelined when Tottenham drew in Glasgow in the Europa League last term but was told all about the night by his teammates when they returned to London. That stuck with him and was one of the first things he thought about when the opportunity to join Russell Martin's side came up. Then he was left in no doubt when he spoke to mentor Defoe, who won the title under Steven Gerrard during three years at Gers at the tail-end of his playing career then became Moore's Under-18s coach at Spurs. Moore said: 'I spoke to Jermain as he was my coach at Tottenham and I'm really close to him now. I talked to him about Rangers the club and he didn't say a bad word about it. 'He said it's an unbelievable place and he said if you've got a chance to go there then to take it. What a player he was and what a guy he is as well. 'I remember seeing him score goals here. I was a bit younger then but I know he was an unbelievable finisher and a great striker and the fans loved him up here. 'He said he loved his time up here too and I think he wishes he could have played here for longer. Do I hope I can have a similar impact? Yeah, I hope so.' Moore made five appearances for Spurs in the group stages of the Europa League competition they would eventually win last season and netted against Elfsborg. After being tipped for the top from an early age it left fans excited about just how good a prospect they had on their hands. But he was sidelined when Ange Postecoglou brought his side to Glasgow for that draw with Philippe Clement's men and looked on as the side went all the way with that memorable win over Manchester United in Bilbao. Now after seeing off the Wasps, all eyes are on the first leg of the £40million clash against the Belgian champs tomorrow night. He said: 'I wasn't up for that game here last year, no. At the time I was out for a bit so I couldn't come up but I was watching on the TV and I was fuming I couldn't be a part of it. 'When the lads came back from here they said it was one of the best atmospheres they'd ever played at. So when I heard about Rangers wanting me that came straight into my mind. 'I remembered all the good things the boys had said and now I can't wait to play in that sort of atmosphere. 'Tuesday's game is a massive game, as every match is when you play for Rangers. I'm excited for it. 'I saw some of the club's games in the earlier rounds this season and it's been good to qualify so it's a massive opportunity for me and all the boys. I can't wait to go. 'Last season was a really good season in Europe for me and for the team. I'm thankful to Ange for giving me my debut at Tottenham. He helped me a lot but now I'm focused on playing here. 'I've had some good experiences but I'm ready to go and show more. I want to go and make more of an impact on the European stage. I'm ready to play.' Moore's loan move was announced at the start of the month but red tape meant he had to bide his time before landing his first start on Saturday. He said: 'I think it was just to do with my age. I think I had to wait till my 18th birthday, which is just what it is. 'I couldn't change it but it kind of helped me so I could adapt to living here and moving here but I was ready to go and play when I had the chance. 'The delay has given me a chance to settle in and get to know everyone so it's been a good few weeks getting used to a new place and moving away from home. 5 'I've been ready to go so I was looking forward to Saturday and I was buzzing when I was out there.' But victory over Andy Graham's League One side was far from straightforward at points. Alloa can be proud of their display after putting up a proper fight against a much-changed Gers team. After falling behind to Nedim Bajrami's 13th minute opener they didn't buckle and Joe Rothwell's own goal 12 minutes later saw them. Then even when Emmanuel Fernandez and James Tavernier - courtesy of a VAR spotkick - put Gers 3-1 up Alloa pulled another back through Scott Taggart. Findlay Curtis' late fourth was a smart finish but perhaps harsh on the Wasps and Martin was just relieved to get through to a quarter-final against either Livingston or Hibs.
