Toyoda Gosei Develops New Steering Wheel for Next-Generation Steering Systems

Business Wire08-05-2025
KIYOSU, Japan--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7282) has developed a new steering wheel for steer-by-wire steering systems. 1 With its advanced design, this steering wheel contributes to comfortable driving and is compatible with new systems that offer a next-generation steering feel. It will first be used on Toyota Motor Corporation's Lexus RZ battery electric vehicle. 2
The newly developed steering wheel adopts a compact, stylish shape similar to that of an airplane yoke. It was made feasible since multiple rotations of the steering wheel, such as when making U-turns or parking, are not needed with steer-by-wire systems that control tire angle via electronic signals. In achieving this new design, Toyoda Gosei adopted the technology it has cultivated in ergonomics-based design for steering wheel structure and grip shape, and in production processes including wrapping the wheel with real or synthetic leather.
1
A steering system that controls the angle of tires through electronic signals, with no direct mechanical link between the steering wheel and tires. U-turns and other maneuvers are possible even with a small steering wheel rotation angle, reducing the burden on the driver for easier and more pleasant operability.
2
Used on the F Sport.

SoftBank's PayPay applies for U.S. listing

TOKYO (Reuters) - SoftBank said on Friday that payments app operator PayPay Corp has applied to list American depositary shares in the United States. The exact schedule, size and price for the public listing have yet to be determined, SoftBank said in a statement. Reuters reported this week that SoftBank had selected banks for a potential initial public offering in the U.S. The offering may raise more than $2 billion from investors and could take place as soon as the final quarter of this year, Reuters reported. PayPay will continue to be a SoftBank subsidiary following the listing, the conglomerate said. Reuters reported in 2023 that SoftBank was considering a U.S. listing for the business. PayPay has helped spur Japanese consumers to embrace digital payments and offers services such as banking and credit cards.

SuperCom Ltd (SPCB) Q2 2025 Earnings Call Highlights: Record Net Income and Strategic Expansion ...

Release Date: August 14, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points SuperCom Ltd (NASDAQ:SPCB) reported a significant increase in operating income, nearly tripling to $1.1 million. The company achieved a record first half GAAP net income of $5.3 million, marking an approximate 80% increase from the prior year. SuperCom Ltd (NASDAQ:SPCB) expanded its gross margin to 59.1%, indicating improved profitability. The company secured over 70 multi-year government projects since 2018, demonstrating strong business development. SuperCom Ltd (NASDAQ:SPCB) has a high win rate of over 65% in competitive RFPs in Europe, showcasing its competitive edge. Negative Points Revenue for Q2 2025 was $7.14 million, slightly lower than the $7.5 million reported in Q2 2024. Net income for the quarter decreased to $1.1 million from $2.2 million in the same quarter last year. The company faces challenges in predicting revenue growth and margin expansion due to the variability in project timelines and structures. SuperCom Ltd (NASDAQ:SPCB) operates in a fragmented US market, requiring more effort in the sales process. Future quarters may experience margin fluctuations depending on the project mix, indicating potential volatility in financial performance. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 3 Warning Signs with SPCB. Q: Can you elaborate on the expansion opportunities with the contract in Israel? Is it about layering in your devices on the existing system, or does it require an expansion in the use of monitoring in the country? A: It's a great question. We have surpassed 1,500 units delivered, growing from the 1,200 units announced last quarter. The project encompasses all electronic monitoring (EM) programs in Israel, including GPS tracking, house arrest, alcohol monitoring, and domestic violence solutions. Growth is expected within existing programs and potential new ones, leveraging our technological advances. We aim to support Israel's expansion in public safety using our Pure Security suite, alongside our partner Electro Security. Q: Considering your opportunities in Europe versus the fragmented US market, where should we expect growth over the next 4 to 6 quarters? A: In Europe, we continue to bid on various projects, ranging from small add-ons to large new projects. However, the US market presents a significant opportunity, expected to grow six times the size of Europe. The US market's fragmented nature allows for faster growth through county-level contracts and partnerships, as seen with over 30 contracts signed in the past year. The US offers higher margins and recurring revenue potential, making it a key focus alongside Europe. Q: With your stronger balance sheet, how are you considering M&A to accelerate US growth compared to organic growth through sales expansion? A: We've been considering acquisitions, especially of value-added resellers in the US, which can provide cost synergies and faster market expansion. Our technology is now well-suited for the US market, and with a small sales team, we've secured over 30 contracts. Acquiring resellers could enhance our growth, and we are in discussions with several partners about potential acquisitions. Q: Your strong earnings were driven by margin expansion rather than revenue growth. Can you provide more insight into the opportunities for further margin expansion? A: We've been optimizing operations, particularly in Europe, by consolidating services and improving profitability. The US market inherently offers higher margins due to centralized cloud operations. While project timelines and structures vary, leading to quarterly margin fluctuations, the general trend is positive. Long-term, as more revenues come from the US and operational efficiencies increase, we expect further margin expansion. Q: How does your visibility on margin expansion compare to revenue growth? A: It's challenging to predict exact growth rates due to varying project timelines and structures. While we understand how to improve margins, the timing of project stages is uncertain. Over time, with more customers and a diversified base, we expect better visibility on both revenues and margins, driven by our global expansion efforts. Breaking down Metaplanet's play-by-play imitation of Strategy

Simply put, the Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) bitcoin playbook is 'buy and hold bitcoin.' But how a company raises money to buy that bitcoin is more complicated. Just take a look at Metaplanet. Metaplanet was the second publicly traded company to really hop on the bitcoin treasury bandwagon, and throughout 2024 and 2025, it relied on a series of capital markets activities that were remarkably similar to Strategy's own. Enjoying the read? Get our newsletter directly to your inbox on all things Bitcoin-equities by clicking here. Metaplanet uses moving-strike warrants (MSW), which mimics an at-the-market (ATM) offering for its common stock. Warrants are like call options. MSWs in particular are structured so the strike price of the option is always reset to the previous day's closing price. When exercised, the MSW forces the company to sell common stock to the warrant holder at the previous day's price. This acts like an ATM offering, but it is structured as a derivative instrument to circumvent certain legal hurdles. Under Japan's Companies Act, a company may issue 'stock acquisition rights' (i.e. warrants) by board resolution without a full public offering or shareholder vote. Much like Strategy's $21 billion MSTR ATM, Metaplanet's MSW generates an immediate growth in BTC per share when the company trades at a premium to its BTC treasuries. Metaplanet also issued a number of zero-coupon ordinary bonds. These bonds were not convertible, even though they have the same zero-coupon feature that has been very common in Strategy's convertible senior notes. Metaplent pulled the convertibility out into separate stock acquisition rights that were issued in the same financing package to lenders. This structure is like a synthetic zero-coupon convertible senior note, because the ordinary bonds carry no interest and the stock acquisition rights are options to purchase common stock which the lender can exercise. Metaplanet chose this structure because it was deemed to be more flexible than a normal convertible bond. So far, the ordinary bonds plus stock acquisitions rights imitates Strategy's zero-coupon convertible senior notes. The MSW imitates Strategy's MSTR ATM offering. Going further, Metaplanet's most recent ¥555 billion shelf registration imitates Strategy's STRK and STRF preferred shares. Strategy's 8% Series A Perpetual Strike Preferred (STRK) features a perpetual 8% dividend on a $100 face value, plus a conversion feature which could turn a STRK share into 1/10 share of MSTR. STRK IPOed in February and Strategy quickly opened a $21 billion STRK ATM. The 10% Series A Perpetual Strife Preferred Stock (STRF) came next. STRF is senior on the capital structure and features a 10% dividend on the $100 face value. Its dividend cannot be forfeited unless Strategy is willing to pay substantial arrears in the future. Strategy calls STRF its 'crown jewel' and 'investment grade' credit instrument, and it opened a $2.1 billion ATM on STRF. Metaplanet's shelf registration announced the creation of two classes of perpetual preferred shares. Class A shares rank senior in dividends and asset distributions but carry no voting rights. The class A shares are like STRF because they are senior and dividend-only. The second type, Class B shares, rank junior and include a put option allowing holders to require conversion into common shares at prescribed times and rates. Metaplanet's class B shares are like STRK because they are junior, include dividends, and have a feature to convert to a fixed amount of common shares. Metaplanet intends for dividends for both classes to not exceed 6%. In summary, Metaplanet's capital raising strategy is tracking closely with Strategy's own. Every jurisdiction has regulatory differences which create superficial disparities for how capital raises are conducted. But if we peel back the layers, we can see that the playbook is very similar, and duplicatable. With Metaplanet beginning to launch perpetual credit instruments, it is likely that other bitcoin treasury companies will eventually follow suit. The key to making these instruments work is the bitcoin treasury acting as collateral. Because many new bitcoin treasury companies have relatively negligent earnings to speak of, the presence of bitcoin collateral is the only thing with underlying value supporting the credit instruments. The most important takeaway about this dynamic is that the amount of credit issuance will likely be hard capped by the amount of bitcoin held by the treasury company.
