Eagles' Landon Dickerson serves beers at practice while recovering from knee surgery

Associated Press20 hours ago
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Landon Dickerson played bartender and served cold ones for the Super Bowl champion Eagles with the injured offensive lineman's career temporarily on ice.
The Eagles can't wait for Dickerson to resume his day job.
Dickerson passed around beers Thursday at the end of a joint practice with the Cleveland Browns — with a brace on his right knee following meniscus surgery that will keep the three-time Pro Bowl lineman sidelined at least through the end of training camp.
Dickerson was injured at the end of Sunday's open practice at Lincoln Financial Field. There is no set timetable for his return, and Brett Toth took first-team snaps at left guard this week at practice.
Toth likely will start for the Eagles when they play their second preseason game Saturday against the Browns.
'Whatever they ask me to do, I'm going to step to the plate and give it the best I got,' Toth said. 'Hopefully I can perform to the standard that was before me.'
Beyond that, there are no guarantees. The Eagles remain hopeful Dickerson could return for the season opener when the Eagles raise their championship banner on Sept. 4 against Dallas.
'Don't have to name any starters or any backups at any position,' coach Nick Sirianni said. 'Brett's done a nice job and I like the depth that we have at that position and I know we have options there, but you asked about Brett, I think Brett's doing a really good job and he's got a lot of versatility.'
Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson remained confident that Toth could handle the spot but was relieved that Dickerson wasn't necessarily expected to remain sidelined deep into the season.
'It was alarming but I'm glad we got a good-case scenario,' Johnson said. 'Make no mistake, Landon's one of the, if not, the best guard in football.'
Toth, who played at Army, has had three stints with the Eagles and spent a bulk of that time on the practice squad.
'H's a really smart individual, really good with the detail of the game,' Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo said. 'He understands a lot of positions, which is great to have a guy like that that can line up in multiple spots and be able to step in if something happens. So I think that's the biggest thing he brings and I think he's been in the system for a while.'

Little League World Series scores: Results, schedule from second day as South Carolina, Japan dominate, South Dakota bests Pennsylvania

The 2025 Little League World Series is officially off and running. Eight teams began their quest to win it all in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday in the annual summer tournament. A new winner will be crowned in 2025, too, after last year's champion, Lake Mary, Florida, was eliminated in the regional round. Which teams will prevail and remain in the winner's bracket? Catch up on all of the action below. Friday's Little League World Series schedule Here's what's ahead on Friday: Vancouver (0-0) vs. Venezuela (1-0) at 1 a.m. ET Washington (0-0) vs. Nevada (1-0) at 3 p.m. ET Aruba (0-0) vs. Panama (1-0) at 5 p.m. ET Hawai'i (0-0) vs. Connecticut (1-0) at 7 p.m. ET Little League World Series format In case you need a refresher, the 2025 Little League World Series will feature a total of 20 teams: 10 from the United States and 10 international clubs. Those teams will compete in a modified double-elimination tournament. Play began Wednesday, Aug. 13, with the winners advancing and remaining in the winners' portion of the bracket. Starting Saturday, Aug. 16, the teams that lost their first games will face off to determine which teams remain in the event. Once a team loses twice, it is eliminated. That changes once the championships begin. The U.S. championship game and the international championship game will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, and will both be single-elimination games. The same thing will be true for the LLWS championship game. That creates a scenario in which a team could be eliminated from the event with just one loss. Games will last six innings. If a game is tied after six innings, both teams will play the seventh inning as normal, with no ghost runners on base. If a game extends past the seventh inning, a runner will open each inning on second base. Thursday's Little League World Series scores • Japan 12, Czechia 0 • Massachusetts 0, South Carolina 13 • Chinese Taipei 3 vs. Mexico 0 • South Dakota 2 vs. Pennsylvania 0 Saturday's Little League World Series schedule Here's what's coming up on Saturday: Australia (0-1) vs. Czechia (0-1) at 1 a.m. ET Texas (0-1) vs. Massachusetts (0-1) at 3 p.m. ET Puerto Rico (0-1) vs. Mexico (0-1) at 5 p.m. ET Pennsylvania (0-1) vs. Illinois (0-1) at 7 p.m. ET

YouTube announces halftime performer for first NFL live broadcast

YouTube's first-ever exclusive NFL broadcast game will welcome Grammy-winning Colombian singer Karol G as the halftime performer. The week 1 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers will take place September 5 at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, Brazil. It will also be the first NFL game to take place in South America. 'I'm so excited to be part of YouTube's first-ever NFL live broadcast, it's truly an honor and a moment I'm so proud to be part of,' Karol G, 34, said in a statement. 'I've watched many NFL halftime shows over the years and now having this opportunity to bring my music to this global stage means the world to me,' the global recording artist added. 'I can't wait to celebrate with everyone in São Paulo and fans all around the world.' The game will be free to stream on YouTube, with pre-game coverage starting at 7 p.m. ET and the kickoff expected at 8 p.m. ET. This partnership between YouTube and the NFL marks the latest push by streamers to break into sports broadcasting. Last year, Netflix hosted its inaugural two-game NFL Christmas Gameday event, which saw the Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens take on the Houston Texans. 'This broadcast is a landmark moment in our partnership with the NFL, where the worlds of football, music and creators will powerfully collide,' said Angela Courtin, VP of connected TV and creative studio marketing at YouTube, in a statement. Besides Karol G, other artists performing at the game are local Brazilian star Ana Castela, who will sing the country's National Anthem, Hino Nacional Brasileiro, and award-nominated American composer and jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington, who will perform the U.S. National Anthem. The broadcast will also feature some of the world's most popular YouTube creators. Karol G's performance comes on the heels of her latest album release, Tropicoqueta. The 20-track record is her fifth overall, after Mañana Será Bonito (2023), KG0516 (2021), Ocean (2019), and Unstoppable (2017). Karol G is widely considered to be one of the most influential reggaeton and urban pop artists. In 2024, she made history as the first woman to win the Grammy for best música urbana, a moment that reflected changing perceptions of reggaetón and Latin hip-hop as exclusively 'men's music.' 'You know, I feel a lot of responsibility about that,' she told The Associated Press at the time. 'As a woman, I have to say, like in my experience, it was tough, like so many things, to be a girl in this industry, in the music that I do, in urban music.'

Texas Longhorns power couple pushes each other in football, softball

It has been a long, hard year for CJ Baxter. The Texas Longhorns running back injured his knee in last year's fall camp and missed the entire 2024 season. But another University of Texas star athlete has been helping the Florida native with his comeback. Baxter's girlfriend is UT Softball star Mia Scott. The newly minted national champion played with a torn ACL in the Women's College World Series. On that injured knew, Scott hit a grand slam in the national title clinching game and was named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team. According to Baxter, Scott has been motivating him through his own rehab. "She pushed me," Baxter said after practice on Thursday. "When there were days I didn't want to get up and feel amazing, she made me get up." Baxter says he was amazed at Scott's toughness in the WCWS. "She's tough," he said. "She played on the torn ACL. I don't know how she did it. But she's super tough." The competitive pair have a friendly rivalry over their knee injury common bond. "She's always messing with me about it," Baxter said. "She'll be like, 'How come I can play on it but you can't?' But, I mean, she didn't have surgery. She was able to do it. I had surgery. I had a little set back." Forecast to be the lead back last season, before tearing both his LCL and ACL, Baxter was recently named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List. The Doak Walker is given to the best running back in the nation. The best motivation Scott has given Baxter is sitting in their bedroom. "Since she's won the national championship, her trophy is on my nightstand," he said. "Every morning when I wake up, that's the first thing I see. She's like, I got to go win one." The Orlando, FL back says he's ready to go this season. "I joked with my dad I was more excited to get tackled than score a touchdown," he said. "I feel great. One day at a time is the big saying I like to say every day.' Baxter is happy to be back and ready after missing a year's worth of football. 'I'm not even going to sit here and sugar coat it," he said. "The first two months were brutal sitting at home and watching the games from my couch because I couldn't move around as much, it was hard for me to watch football. But man, when I look back on it now, of course I'm not glad I got injured, but I'm grateful for what it did for me, mentally, physically and spiritually." If Baxter is back to 100%, he could have a huge season. 'I feel like I put in the work in my rehab not to have any doubts, I haven't doubted myself at all,' Baxter said.
