Chappell Roan Sweeps The Country Charts, Owning (Almost) All Of Them

Chappell Roan continues to earn her status as one of the hottest new hitmakers in the music industry — and not just in the pop world, where she's been building a passionate fanbase for years. The rising star scores a trio of wins that would be impressive for any country act, let alone someone who, until now, had never released a country single, or even really been considered part of the genre.
Roan's brand new single 'The Giver' blasts onto three Billboard country rankings this week. The singer-songwriter doesn't just sneak in or even debut inside the top 10 — she starts at No. 1 on all of them.
'The Giver' launches at No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart, the most important and competitive ranking in the genre. That roster blends data from sales, streams, and radio airplay to identify the most-consumed country tunes in the U.S., and right now, Roan's new single stands above all.
The song also conquers both the Country Streaming Songs and Country Digital Song Sales rankings. That means it's not only the most-played country track on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, it's also the bestselling composition in the genre in the nation this week.
With 'The Giver,' Roan earns her first No. 1 on each of those three country-focused tallies. It's also her first appearance on any of them, which makes this triple win even more notable.
Plenty of musicians have crossed over into country in recent years, but few have done so with such immediate success. For an artist who hasn't marketed herself as country in the past, Roan's instant dominance is nearly unprecedented.
Despite leading in sales and streaming, 'The Giver' doesn't appear at all on the Country Airplay chart. That's not a small oversight, either. The Country Airplay list is Billboard's largest radio-specific chart, tracking 60 songs each week.
In other words, even though 'The Giver' is the most-consumed, bestselling and most-played country song in the United States, it doesn't currently rank among the 60 most popular at country radio.
Whether that's due to her pop origins or simply the speed at which the song is spreading, the absence is glaring, though not necessarily surprising. Many crossover tracks take weeks, if not months, to make a dent in radio rotation, especially at country stations.
'The Giver' isn't just a country win, it's a national smash. The single debuts at No. 5 on the Hot 100, giving Roan her third top 10 hit on the all-genre list of the most-consumed songs in the U.S.
The cut also opens at No. 2 on the Digital Song Sales chart and No. 4 on the Streaming Songs tally, meaning 'The Giver' is one of the bestselling and most-streamed songs in America this week, across all genres.

Rosé Matches BTS's All-Time Billboard Record

Rosé's hit 'Apt.' with Bruno Mars ties BTS's 'Dynamite' for the second-longest Hot 100 run by a ... More K-pop artist, reaching 32 weeks. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MAY 02: Rosé attends as Tiffany & Co. celebrates the debut of the Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams Collection at Tiffany & Co. Landmark on May 02, 2024 in New York City. (Photo byfor Tiffany & Co.) After Morgan Wallen inundated the Hot 100 last week with dozens of tracks from his new No. 1 album I'm the Problem, the tally becomes slightly less competitive this frame. Several of the country superstar's tunes decline, making more room toward the top for a handful of smashes that had been performing incredibly well, but which fell when the singer-songwriter invaded the list – but they are now regaining ground. Rosé's hit 'Apt.,' her hugely popular collaboration with Bruno Mars, is one such tune. It rises this frame as it makes space once more near the upper reaches of the ranking. As it does, the Blackpink singer ties the most successful group in K-pop history for a coveted spot in Billboard chart history. 'Apt.' has spent 32 weeks on the Hot 100. The smash is now matched with 'Dynamite' by BTS, which fell off the tally after 32 frames. It reaches that important milestone as it advances from No. 28 to No. 22 during a quieter period on the tally. Rosé's tune is now tied as the second-longest-charting track in U.S. history by a K-pop musician. Although originally from New Zealand, Rosé is closely associated with the K-pop style thanks to her career beginnings in Blackpink. Much of her output is at least partially related to that genre — including 'Apt.,' which features both English and Korean lyrics. Just last week, 'Apt.' was on the same level as 'Gangnam Style,' the first K-pop hit many Americans were familiar with. That track, which peaked at No. 2 more than a decade ago, racked up 31 stays on the Hot 100 and, for many years, reigned as the highest-charting and longest-lasting success by any K-pop artist in America. 'Apt.' now needs just one more frame to tie the all-time best showing by a K-pop star. That honor belongs to Jimin, one of the seven singers that make up BTS. He kept his tune 'Who' on the tally for 33 weeks, starting in mid-2024. While Jimin's track only climbed to No. 12, it remained on the list for months. Since 'Apt.' is still present just outside the top 20, it seems likely Rosé will match Jimin's showing — and may even beat it in time.

A-ha Frontman Morten Harket Reveals Parkinson's Diagnosis, Says He's Done ‘Treating It as a Secret'

After battling Parkinson's disease for some time in private, A-ha's Morten Harket is now sharing his diagnosis with the public. By way of a letter written by the band's biographer, Jan Omdahl, the singer broke the news to fans that he has been receiving treatment for the neurological disorder 'in recent years,' undergoing surgeries last June and December to implant symptom-reducing electrodes on both sides of his brain. Harket also said that he'd been having conflicting feelings for quite some time about whether he should go public with his diagnosis. More from Billboard Marc Cohn Reveals Parkinson's Disease Diagnosis: 'This Is Just Another Passage' Jessie J Reveals 'Early Breast Cancer' Diagnosis: 'Cancer Sucks in Any Form' Big Thief Announce New Album, 'Double Infinity' 'Part of me wanted to reveal it,' he told Omdahl. 'Like I said, acknowledging the diagnosis wasn't a problem for me; it's my need for peace and quiet to work that has been stopping me. I'm trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline. It's a difficult balancing act between taking the medication and managing its side effects.' 'It used to bother me to think about my sickness becoming public knowledge,' Harket added. 'In the long run, it bothers me more to have to protect something that is strictly a private matter by treating it as a secret.' According to the Mayo Clinic, Parkinson's is a 'movement disorder of the nervous system that worsens over time,' often causing tremors and affecting the motor skills of patients. There is no cure for the degenerative disease, but medicines and surgery can help ease symptoms. For Harket, both treatment paths have 'led to a dramatic improvement in his symptoms,' though he still faces regular exhaustion and strain. He also said that his singing abilities have been affected, but it's not of primary concern for him right now. 'I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign,' he told Omdahl. 'The question is whether I can express myself with my voice. As things stand now, that's out of the question … I see singing as my responsibility, and at certain moments I think it's absolutely fantastic that I get to do it. But I've got other passions too, I have other things that are just as big a part of me, that are just as necessary and true.' Even so, the Norwegian singer has been working on new music throughout his journey with Parkinson's, revealing that he has 'great belief' in the material that's sprung out of this period in his life. 'I'm not sure if I'll be able to finish them for release,' Harket said. 'Time will tell if they make it. I really like the idea of just going for it, as a Parkinson's patient and an artist, with something completely outside the box.' He also added that — while appreciative of the concern fans will undoubtedly have for him as they learn of the news — he's already weary from the anticipation of all the messages of sympathy and unsolicited advice headed his way. 'Don't worry about me,' he said when asked what he wants listeners to know at this time. 'Find out who you want to be — a process that can be new each and every day. Be good servants of nature, the very basis of our existence, and care for the environment while it is still possible to do so.' Harket added, 'Spend your energy and effort addressing real problems, and know that I am being taken care of.' Over the past couple of decades, cases of disability and death caused by Parkinson's have been 'rapidly spreading,' according to the World Health Organization. As of 2019, an estimated 8.5 million people had the disease, an ever-growing population that also includes stars such as Michael J. Fox, Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner's Mick Jones, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt and Marc Cohn, who have all been open about their diagnoses. A-ha was one of the defining pop groups of the 1980s, landing three entries on the Billboard Hot 100 in the second half of the decade: 'The Sun Always Shines on T.V.,' 'Cry Wolf,' and No. 1 hit 'Take on Me.' The group is comprised of Harket and friends Magne Furuholmen and Paul Waaktaar-Savoy, who formed the group in Oslo in 1982. 50 Cent Keeps His Promise by Posting the ‘Really Bad' Things Diddy Has Said About Donald Trump

50 Cent promised to let Donald Trump know what Diddy has said about him in the past, and he followed up on exactly that when posting a pair of clips on Monday (June 2) featuring Combs condemning the president. 'See Trump don't like s–t like this buddy, you run your mouth to much,' 50 wrote in one caption. Rappers: 'This My List, Punk!' The first video finds Sean Combs in conversation with Charlamagne Tha God, talking about a potential race war if the now twice-impeached president were in office. 'If Trump gets elected, I really do believe in my heart there'll be a race war,' Diddy said in the clip. Another video shows Diddy condemning Trump on REVOLT, saying: 'White men like Trump need to be banished.' Fans hopped into the comments, chiming in about 50 looking to kill any chance of a pardon for Diddy by Trump, who recently pardoned YoungBoy Never Broke Again. 'We will have BREAKING NEWS….from the White House to address by noon tomorrow…I am sure you just took that man's last hope for sure,' one fan wrote. The G-Unit mogul has been relentless in his trolling of Combs, as 50 even posted an edited image of himself rocking a 'Free Diddy' shirt on social media. Combs remains on trial in New York for federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. During Tuesday's 15th day of testimony, a hotel worker alleged Diddy paid them $100,000 to make sure the video of Combs assaulting Cassie never got out, per ABC News. Last week, Trump was asked about a potential Diddy pardon during an Oval Office briefing and said he'd consider it, but would have to take a look at the case. 'I haven't spoken to him in years,' Trump said. 'He used to really like me a lot. I think when I ran for politics, that relationship busted up. … I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don't like me, it wouldn't have any impact on me.'
