Goodbye Joel, goodbye Ellie, goodbye zombies.
The second season of HBO's acclaimed "The Last of Us" went out with a serious cliffhanger on May 25, and fans will have to wait an indeterminate amount of time until a promised Season 3 will resolve it. But just because we've had to say farewell to Ellie (Bella Ramsey) for now and Joel (Pedro Pascal) forever doesn't mean we have to leave the moody post-apocalyptic doom-and-gloom vibes behind.
While "Us" is a unique and excellent series, it's not the only zombie and dystopian show worth watching to stave off the Sunday scaries. Several others capture its essence, whether they also feature zombies, share producers or because the atmosphere and writing are just that good, too.
If you're jonesing for more "Us"-style TV, we've got five shows to fill the long hiatus between now and Season 3.
If you love the writing: 'Chernobyl'
"Us" co-creator Craig Mazin made his name with this devastating, brutal and hard-to-swallow 2019 HBO series detailing the real-life nuclear disaster in Pripyat, Ukraine, under the Soviet Union rule in the 1980s. The series is a chronicle of mismanagement and corruption, of a failed state and a broken government. Starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard, Emily Watson and Jessie Buckley, it turns the mundane and dull, like a court hearing or reading of data, into vital, tense TV.

If you like an aged post-apocalypse: 'Station Eleven'
"Station Eleven" has no zombies or spores, but the dystopian limited series, based on the award-winning 2014 novel by Emily St. John Mandel, looks and feels a lot like "Us" in its depiction of a world decades after a deadly pandemic. In "Eleven," which aired on HBO in 2021-22, the culprit is more mundane and more terrifying than zombieism: A bird flu that takes out the vast majority of the population. Told in multiple timelines and with lyrical and literary flair, the series asks deep questions about humanity as it follows the few people not just able to survive, but thrive. Shakespeare is involved.

If you just like great TV: 'Andor'
OK, hear us out. You could watch "The Mandalorian," a gritty "Star Wars" series starring Pedro Pascal, the leading man of "Last of Us," even though it's middling as far as the Disney+ "Star Wars" TV shows go. Or you could watch a much better "Star Wars" series with an equally dashing leading man (Diego Luna) with character and plotting as complex and thoughtful as "Last of Us." Other than its color palette and Rotten Tomatoes score, there isn't a lot on the surface that ties Disney+'s "Andor" (2022-25) and "Last of Us." But look deeper and you see both are about how we choose what's worth fighting for, and what makes us willing to give up our lives. It's "Star Wars" for grownups in the way that "Last of Us" is zombies for grownups.

If you love the sci-fi elements: 'Silo'
Amid its relationship dynamics, moral quandaries and religious allegories, "Last of Us" is also a really good piece of dystopian science fiction, and there is great pleasure in learning what makes its post-infection world tick. Apple TV+'s series "Silo," which premiered in 2023, is another sci-fi drama that thrives in world building and details, set in its own post-apocalypse where humanity is reduced to 10,000 or so people living in an underground silo. It's more of a puzzle-box mystery than "Last of Us," but it has the same kind of shocking deaths, head fakes and edge-of-your-seat-action.

If you love the horror elements: 'The Strain'
Based on the book by producer and horror maestro Guillermo del Toro, "The Strain" aired on FX for four seasons of stomach-churning viral terror from 2014-17. Following doctors battling an outbreak of a disease that has quite a lot in common with vampirism, "Strain" never said no to a gross-out moment or jump scare. It featured vampires instead of zombies, but the epidemic at the center of the story certainly puts it in the same genre.

Three former crewmembers on the ABC medical series 'Doctor Odyssey' are suing 20th Century and its parent company Disney for allegedly enabling an 'unchecked campaign of sexual harassment for months' on the set of the series. In the suit, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, plaintiffs Caroline Mack, Alicia Haverland and Ava Steinbrenner claim that Tyler Patton, the assistant prop master on 'Doctor Odyssey,' would subject the three to 'sexual jokes, innuendos, comments, sexual gestures and images' as well as 'unwanted touching,' such as 'openly grabbing a visiting female employee's buttocks.' But the link redirected to a picture of a naked male with an erect penis. Other comments allegedly made by Patton include calling one of the plaintiffs a 'chick' and saying 'come over here and open your mouth, here's the worm.' The lead prop master on 'Doctor Odyssey' was Tammie Patton, Tyler's wife. The suit claims that Tammie and Disney hired Tyler with 'knowledge that prior allegations of sexual harassment had been lodged' against him. Patton was previously named in a 2010 lawsuit against Universal Network Television, which claimed advanced sexual harassment and retaliation allegations on the set of 'House.' In that complaint, ex-employee Carl Jones alleged that Patton groped his genitals and made sexual propositions to female co-workers. The 'Doctor Odyssey' suit also claims that Patton's harassment would occur 'daily and frequently in the presence of management.' During one confrontation, Patton allegedly exclaimed, 'If I wasn't fucking the boss, I'd be fired.' Patton was terminated after plaintiffs reported his behavior to human resources, according to the complaint. Shortly after, Tammie Patton allegedly 'began to engage in retaliatory behavior,' including threatening their employment. The entire props department was later laid off, though Disney 'then almost immediately hired a whole new set of employees,' the suit states. The suit argues that 'Defendants wiped the Prop Department's slate clean to avoid having to deal with any remaining 27 employee-relations issues tied to Tyler Patton's and Tammie Patton's misconduct.' The plaintiffs also claim that they have been 'blacklisted' by Disney 'in retaliation for bringing forward their good-faith complaints.' Disney did not immediately respond to a request for comment. 'Doctor Odyssey' has not yet been renewed for a second season. It is now the only scripted series at ABC with an undetermined future. Ex-‘Doctor Odyssey' Crew Members Sue Disney, Fox Claiming Sexual Harassment And Wrongful Termination
Three former members of the props department on ABC's medical drama Doctor Odyssey filed a lawsuit Friday against the network's parent company Disney and producer 20th Television's parent Fox, alleging they were subject to sexual harassment on the set of the series and eventually retaliated against and terminated when they complained about it. The suit, filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, says the plaintiffs — Caroline Mack, Alicia Haverland and Ava Steinbrenner — were hired in late spring/early summer 2024 to work in the new series' props department. The defendants then hired Tammie Patton as Prop Master and her husband Tyler Patton as Assistant Prop Master who supervised and directed the plaintiffs in their work. The behavior cited in the lawsuit (read it here) allegedly included 'sexual jokes, innuendos, comments, sexual gestures and images, and unwanted touching including, but not limited to: (i) regularly giving Plaintiffs unwanted, lingering hugs; (ii) touching one of the Plaintiff's thighs; (iii) frequently placing his hands on one of the Plaintiff's lower back; (iv) placing his arms around Plaintiffs' necks and forcing them to 'walk with him;' and (v) openly grabbing a visiting female employee's buttocks on set.' The suit said the plaintiffs eventually went to senior production members to report the misconduct including Tammie Patton, and say they were retaliated against by being forced to do demeaning tasks, and having their jobs threatened. 'Even though Defendants' Human Resources Department and Senior Management assigned to Dr. Odyssey were fully aware of Tyler Patton's inappropriate behavior and the retaliation his wife/Plaintiffs' boss Tammie Patton engaged in, they took no action to prevent it,' says the suit. 'In fact, Defendants' human resources was asleep at the wheel and permitted the frustrated managers/producers on set to handle these conflicts on their own. This led to Plaintiffs suffering additional mistreatment, retaliation, and emotional distress.' In the end, the plaintiffs say that rather than taking action against the alleged harassers, the defendants informed the entire props department in August that it was being terminated. That became effective at the end of September. 'Defendants took the 'easy' way out choosing to eliminate not only the wrongdoers — Prop Master Tammie Patton and Assistant Prop Master Tyler Patton — but all of the remaining employees in the Props Department who had been subject to the wrongdoers' misconduct,' the suit says. As a result, the plaintiffs are claiming wrongful termination in addition to claims of sexual harassment, failure to prevent harassment and retaliation. The suit also cites negligent hiring on the part of Disney, Fox and co-defendant Entertainment Partners, saying the defendants knew Tyler Patton had been subject to similar accusations and lawsuit on the set of the mid-2000s Fox medical drama series House. 'Notably, there was some overlap between employees on Dr. Odyssey and employees on the set of House,' the suit says. The plaintiffs are seeking a jury trial. Doctor Odyssey, from Ryan Murphy and starring Joshua Jackson and Don Johnson, debuted its first season in September and is on the bubble for a Season 2 pickup. It was not on ABC's fall 2025 schedule when that was announced earlier this month at the broadcast upfronts. So things have been looking reasonably good for entertainment giant Disney (DIS) recently. It has the top movie in the United States right now with the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. The stink of Snow White 's failure is finally departing. And now, Disney rolled out a set of new 'perks' designed to keep Disney+ subscribers from becoming churn statistics or streaming nomads. That gave investors reason to cheer as well, and shares notched up fractionally in the closing minutes of Friday's trading. Confident Investing Starts Here: Disney knows that there are a lot of options out there when it comes to streaming, and this growing diffusion is actually starting to hurt the entire streaming concept. So rather than take its chances with an audience that gets bored easily and goes off in search of new content elsewhere once the old content has run out, Disney is offering up new 'perks,' as some put it, to keep Disney viewers in the fold. The United States gets first go with the Disney Plus Perks program, including discounts for merchandise from places like Funko (FNKO), a six-month DashPass membership with DoorDash (DASH), and more. And, next week, Hulu will have its own loyalty program scheme in place that includes a range of companies offering discounts, and new perks stepping in over the course of the summer. Disney Adults Disappointed by Budget Airlines Meanwhile, the so-called Disney adult is apparently getting fed up with budget airlines, and is potentially posing a problem for Disney itself. While just getting to a Disney park can be a challenge, depending on where you live, the budget airlines that represented a great way to save cash while traveling are letting down their passengers. The problem seems to be that the budget airlines are having trouble keeping up with their larger counterparts, who are reducing fares to try and take advantage of what passenger base there is left. Many of those airlines are also upgrading their planes to take advantage of the wealthy passenger, but planes need to be filled, and thus, cheaper fares are often a go-to. Thus, the Disney adult is paying about what they would pay elsewhere for service that truly is 'budget.' Is Disney Stock a Buy or Hold? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on DIS stock based on 14 Buys and four Holds assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 7.8% rally in its share price over the past year, the average DIS price target of $123.56 per share implies 9.27% upside potential.
