Over 1.2 million hectares of NCR land surveyed in Sarawak
KUCHING: The Sarawak government has always recognised and safeguarded the people's right to the Native Customary Right (NCR) land, provided that it is valid and established under the provisions of existing land laws.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that through the New NCR Land Survey Initiative, carried out from October 2010 to April 30 this year, ??1,200,766 hectares or 2,967,093 acres have been surveyed.
'Of that total, about 935,760 hectares or 2,312,263 acres have been gazetted as Native Communal Reserve (Agriculture) under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code. This survey work is based on applications from the parties involved,' he said when winding up for the Natural Resources and Urban Development Ministry at the State Assembly sitting here today.
Awang Tengah, who is also Sarawak's Second Minister of Natural Resources and Urban Development, said that since 2017, the survey has also focused on individual lots for the issuance of title deeds under Section 18 of the state's land code.
'As of April 30 this year, a total of 99,438 individual lots have been successfully surveyed, involving an area of ??118,749 hectares or 293,429 acres that have and will be issued land title deeds under section 18.
'To expedite the survey of individual lots of NCR land, the claimants must be present during the survey of the area concerned, mark their land boundaries clearly and avoid disputes so that the survey can be done more smoothly,' he said.
The Sarawak government, he added, is committed to ensuring the continuity of the survey programme and will continue to provide the funds needed, in addition to the funds received from the federal government.

Other bills passed included the Infrastructure Development Trust Fund (Dissolution) Bill, the Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill 2025, the Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill approving an additional allocation of RM153,769,197, and the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill for RM237,660,520.

Petronas invested RM25bil in Sarawak in 2024: Awang Tengah
KUCHING: Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has invested RM25 billion in Sarawak last year, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. Awang Tengah, who is also the Sarawak Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment said these investments include nine first hydrocarbon discoveries and two major production milestones – the Kasawari field at Block SK316 and the Jerun field at Block SK408. "Ongoing offshore development and exploration projects are in progress to ensure future energy security. "Petronas is intensifying frontier exploration through data enrichment and strategic partnerships for seismic processing, reinforcing Sarawak's role in Malaysia's energy sector, supporting long-term energy security and economic growth," he said during his ministry's winding-up session at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today. Meanwhile, Awang Tengah said Sarawak recognises natural gas as a vital transition fuel in the global journey towards net-zero emissions and the state is committed to its responsible development. He said the Sarawak Gas Roadmap leverages Sarawak's abundant natural gas resources, which constitute over 60 per cent of Malaysia's reserves, to drive industrialisation, improve energy security and attract sustainable investment. "As part of this initiative, a RM100 million city gas trunkline in Bintulu will expand clean and affordable energy access for homes and businesses. The project is going to be implemented soon. "Meanwhile, the RM1 billion Samalaju Pipeline will transport 300 million standard cubic feet (mmscf) per day of gas from Bintulu to Samalaju Industrial Park. The installation of this gas pipeline is expected to be completed by the end of 2025," he said.
