Ex-Senate deputy president claims trial to accepting Range Rover as bribe

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA: Former Dewan Negara deputy president Ali Mohamad pleaded not guilty in the Ayer Keroh sessions court in Melaka today to a charge of accepting a luxury car as a bribe in 2015. Bernama reported that he entered the plea after the charge was read to him before judge Elesabet Paya Wan. Ali was accused of corruptly accepting a Range Rover Sport from a company director as an inducement to award subcontract work for a land reclamation project in Kota Laksamana. The offence allegedly took place at the company's office in Taman Kota Syahbandar, Melaka Tengah, in June 2015. The charge, under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, is punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act by up to 20 years' imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher. Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib urged the court to maintain the same bail conditions set by the Shah Alam sessions court on June 18: RM60,000 bail with one surety, surrender of the accused's passport, and a prohibition on contacting prosecution witnesses. He also applied for the case previously filed in Shah Alam to be transferred to Ayer Keroh so that both matters can be heard together. Defence counsel Yunos Shariff raised no objection, and the court fixed Aug 14 for mention. Object that exploded in Polish field could be drone or sabotage-related, defence minister says

Palace warns of TikTok account mimicking Queen's voice
KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Press Office has detected a TikTok account using artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic the voice of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia. According to a post on the official Facebook page of Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar, the Royal Press Office said the video featured a voice resembling Raja Zarith Sofiah, allegedly promising financial assistance. "The public is advised to remain cautious and not be easily influenced by such fake accounts, which are often used by scammers for fraudulent purposes on social media platforms. "The Royal Press Office wishes to stress that impersonation and misuse of identity are offences under the law," the post read. A 33-second video went viral on TikTok, using the Queen's image and mimicking Her Majesty's voice, purportedly to convey aid to Malaysians in need of financial assistance. – Bernama

Putrajaya road closures for National Day rehearsals Aug 26-29
PUTRAJAYA: Fourteen main roads in Putrajaya will face closures from August 26 to 29 for National Day rehearsal activities. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the closures will be in effect from 6 am until 12 noon daily. The affected routes include Lebuh Wawasan and Persiaran Perdana among other key thoroughfares. Additional full closures will impact 14 main access roads to Putrajaya Core Island from August 29 at 10 pm through August 31. These closures will affect critical junctions including Lingkaran Putrajaya at Jambatan Saujana and multiple traffic light intersections. Datuk Fadil Marsus stated, 'Members of the public are advised to plan their journey in advance, arrive early at the venue, and take advantage of the free shuttle bus service.' The free shuttle service will operate every 15 minutes from three different locations to accommodate attendees. A significant security presence of 2,708 officers and personnel will be deployed to manage the expected crowd of 100,000 visitors.
