Ranking The 5 Cheapest Trucks In America
As much as small sedans and crossovers are the most affordable new cars in America, some people simply can't do without a pickup truck. Be it for towing, off-roading, or transporting larger or awkwardly-shaped items, pickups are hard to beat. But if you can't afford one of the most expensive new trucks in America, we've put together a list of the cheapest ones, ranked from most to least expensive.
Only the cheapest derivative of each truck has been included, and the prices indicated below exclude the destination charge and any options. Finally, as pricing changes regularly, these are the cheapest new pickups at the time of publishing. View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article
One of three mid-size pickups on this list, Nissan's trusty Frontier starts at just over $32k for the King Cab in basic S guise (note that the crew cab Pro-4X is pictured above). Like other Frontiers, this variant has a 3.8-liter V6 engine making 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive optional. A nine-speed automatic transmission is standard. In 4x2 guise, this pickup can tow up to 7,150 pounds.
Base S specification includes the following standard features:
16-inch steel wheels with painted finish
Halogen headlights
Black grille and door handles
Four-person seating
Four-speaker sound system
Eight-inch color touchscreen
Wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
Blind-spot warning
Rear parking sensors
Rear automatic braking
With its rugged looks and ample power, this is a solid workhorse, yet it still has enough amenities for comfortable daily use. The absence of forced induction and electrification should improve long-term reliability.

Sticking with mid-size pickups, the cheapest Colorado starts at only $150 less than the Frontier. Unlike the Nissan, this is a Crew Cab with proper rear doors, so rear-seat access will be effortless. RWD is standard and 4WD optional, and this model gets GM's 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, known as the TurboMax. It makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft; that torque figure dwarfs the Frontier's N/A V6, and the Chevy can also tow up to 7,700 lbs.
The following features are standard on the Colorado WT:
17-inch steel wheels
Halogen headlights
11.3-inch LCD display
Six-speaker sound system
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
Single-zone manual climate control
Automatic emergency braking
Rear cross-traffic braking
Blind-zone steering assist
Although it has the same basic look as the Frontier, the Colorado looks like a better buy with its Crew Cab, superior torque, and better towing. But if you want a V6, the Nissan is the winner.

Like the Frontier, Toyota's cheapest mid-size pickup has the same cab layout, but Toyota refers to it as an XtraCab. A 2.4-liter turbocharged four-pot is standard, and it makes 228 hp and 243 lb-ft; that's some way short of its Nissan and Chevy rivals at this price point. RWD is standard and 4WD is optional, while the Tacoma has an eight-speed automatic. Towing for this model is 3,500 lbs, which is less than half that of the Nissan and Chevy.
These are the standard features on the Tacoma SR XtraCab:
17-inch steel wheels
LED headlights and LED bed lighting
Eight-inch touchscreen
Four-speaker sound system
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
Full-speed adaptive cruise control
Lane departure warning
Road sign assist
LED exterior lighting aside, the Toyota isn't much better equipped than the cheaper Nissan and Chevy. However, that Toyota badge counts for a lot, which is the main reason to choose this model over its rivals.

This is the first entry in the compact pickup segment, and also the first one on our list with unibody construction. In entry-level SE form (the Limited is pictured above), the Santa Cruz has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 191 hp and 181 lb-ft. FWD is standard and AWD is optional, and it has an eight-speed automatic. With trailer brakes, the Santa Cruz is capable of towing up to 3,500 lbs. It's more comfortable to drive than any of the preceding pickups, though.
By dipping into the compact truck segment, buyers do get more features for the money, at the expense of capability. The Santa Cruz SE gets these features as standard:
18-inch alloy wheels
Projector bi-LED headlights and LED DRLs
Lockable under-bed storage compartment
12.3-inch touchscreen display
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
Blind-spot collision warning
Rear cross-traffic alert
Driver attention warning
Standard alloys, a bigger infotainment screen, and sportier looks make the base Santa Cruz feel a lot less utilitarian than the other trucks here. If you don't need to tow more than it can handle, it'll be a better daily driver.

And so we arrive at the cheapest new truck on sale right now, which is the Ford Maverick XL. It's quite a bit pricier than it was, but it's still the cheapest new truck on sale. The standard hybrid powertrain produces just 191 hp, but the upside is its combined consumption of 38 mpg, better than any other pickup. For only $125 more, you can get the 250-hp turbocharged model, which also replaces the CVT with an eight-speed automatic. FWD is standard, and this compact unibody truck can tow up to 4,000 lbs, but only with the tow package.
The following features are standard:
17-inch steel wheels
LED reflector headlights
Single-zone air conditioning
Eight-inch productivity screen and 13.2-inch touchscreen
Wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
Six-speaker sound system
Automatic emergency braking
Automatic high beams
Although the Maverick XL doesn't have as many driver-assist features as the other trucks here, you can add the Ford Co-Pilot360 pack for $795, which adds blind-spot monitoring, reverse sensors, lane-keep alert, and more.
Given its price and excellent efficiency, this is the most affordable pickup to buy and run (in hybrid form). At least, that's until the Slate electric pickup arrives, which promises an even lower starting price.Ranking The 5 Cheapest Trucks In America first appeared on Autoblog on Jul 13, 2025

Prediction: 1 Stock Will Be Worth More Than Tesla 10 Years From Now
Key Points Toyota already generates three times more revenue than Tesla and produces superior cash flow from operations. At the same time, Toyota trades at just 7.2 times earnings, compared with Tesla's P/E ratio of 183. If Tesla loses its ultra-premium valuation and gets priced like other automakers, its market cap advantage would evaporate quickly. 10 stocks we like better than Toyota Motor › Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You The Insurance Savings You Expect Great Rates and Award-Winning Service Electric vehicle maker Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has taken Wall Street by storm in the past six years. Starting from a stock price of $17 and a $46.2 billion market cap in July, 2019, Elon Musk's empire made electric cars cool and expanded into a broader alternative energy business with a side gig in literal rocket science. Today, Tesla has a trillion-dollar market cap and a stock price of $332 per share. Early shareholders enjoyed a 1,830% return so far. However, Tesla doesn't dominate the newfangled category of electric vehicles anymore. Other carmakers have joined the eco-friendly transportation market, and Tesla's skyrocketing sales growth has fizzled out. At the same time, classic auto giant Toyota Motor (NYSE: TM) is adapting to the revamped car market, applying its decades of engineering know-how and ultraefficient operations to new issues. Tesla's market value is about five times Toyota's right now. Believe it or not, but I think Toyota will have a larger market footprint than Tesla again -- probably before 2035. Toyota is already a giant Here's the thing. Toyota is already larger than Tesla in many ways. The Japanese company boasted $315 billion of global sales in fiscal year 2025, which ended on March 31. Tesla's sales stopped at $95.7 billion in the same period. And it's not just top-line sales. Toyota's full-year cash from operations were $24.3 billion versus Tesla's $16.8 billion, for example. It's really just the stock that looks small in the context of Tesla's intimidating presence. Now, you should know that Toyota is more than just a car maker. The company is a proper Japanese Keiretsu, with market-leading operations spanning many industries. The resulting conglomerate includes auto parts suppliers, a banking division that accounted for 8% of Toyota's total sales last year, and more. Toyota had 585 subsidiaries and 165 joint ventures at the end of fiscal 2025. It's a sophisticated business empire with global scale and innovative ambitions. These days, the company is restructuring itself into a mobility company. The idea is to help people transport themselves, their physical goods, various types of information, and energy, all under the Toyota brand. Innovative long-term plans The company is humming on every cylinder right now. Sales have grown in all four of its geographic segments for the last three years. Its vehicles may not be as flashy as a Tesla Cybertruck, but Toyota's products are renowned for their quality and reliability in a wide range of driving conditions. The company was an early player in hybrid cars, introducing the Prius way back in 1997. Toyota is now building battery and electric vehicle factories around the world, focusing on its largest markets in Japan and North America. But that's not the only alternative fuel system up Toyota's sleeve. It is also doing heavy research and market development for fuel cell vehicles, aiming to make hydrogen-powered cars a common solution with a full-fledged refueling infrastructure. At this early stage, most of Toyota's fuel cell efforts focus on heavy vehicles, such as trucks and buses. Passenger cars and SUVs should join the party over time. Toyota will climb out of Wall Street's bargain bin someday So Toyota is ready and willing to compete in the increasingly electric car industry of the 2020s and beyond. This effort will continue in the long run, cementing Toyota as a world-class designer and manufacturer of eco-friendly transportation tools -- or mobility solutions, as the company likes to think of its four new target segments. Meanwhile, Toyota's stock trades at low valuation ratios such as 7.2 times earnings and 0.7 times sales. Tesla shares, on the other hand, are still market darlings with a P/E ratio of 183 and P/S at 11.2. Again, Tesla is a much smaller business than Toyota and its formerly impressive sales growth has slowed down dramatically in recent quarters. If that trend continues, Wall Street will probably cancel Tesla's sky-high ratios and start treating the company like any other carmaker. If that level playing field ever develops, Tesla's stock will look small next to Toyota's -- just like Toyota's financial figures already outclass Tesla's today. None of this will happen overnight, of course. But unless these companies make drastic changes to their business models, I expect Toyota's stock to be worth more than Tesla's by 2035. And Toyota should be a serious supplier of gas-free vehicles by then. Should you buy stock in Toyota Motor right now? More than 24,000 vehicles stolen in Colorado in 2024; why theft is down in 2025
Across Colorado, vehicle theft is on the decline after years of increases, according to the Colorado State Patrol. CSP reports that in 2023, there were 32,976 thefts. In 2024, there were 25,200. The agency is reminding everyone to keep their guards up because the goal for theft is zero. CSP says between 40% to 50% of stolen vehicle calls come from people not locking their doors. The biggest issue comes from drivers assuming they locked their doors and not going back to check. July is Auto Theft Prevention Month, so CBS Colorado is sharing some resources. There are programs, including Denver Track and Aurora Metro Track, that help with vehicle recovery and prevention. CSP says the best practices are making sure your vehicles are clean to make it less desirable to thieves. Also, steering wheel locks make a big difference. CSP offers free steering wheel locks to all Colorado residents. You just need to provide proof of registration and insurance. The locations are as follows: CSP says AirTags help with locating or finding a stolen vehicle. In all scenarios and under no circumstances should you ever chase after your stolen vehicle. "Often cases, we find auto theft to be the first in a series of crimes," Cale Gould, Public Outreach Coordinator for Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority. "Many turns into violence, including weapons, stolen weapons, and illicit drugs. All of that bleeds over into the everyday dangers that law enforcement faces when trying to recover stolen cars. That's something we want to warn the public off of." CSP says 82% of stolen vehicles usually get recovered within the first month. The agency is reminding everyone of its Vehicle Assistance Program. This helps with insurance deductibles, vehicle towing, impound fees, vehicle repairs, and transportation.

Joe Gibbs Racing Re-Signs Denny Hamlin To A Multiyear Extension
Denny Hamlin, driver of the #11 Mavis Tire Toyota, poses with the winner sticker on his car in ... More victory lane after winning the NASCAR Cup Series Würth 400 at Dover International Speedway on April 28, 2024 in Dover, Delaware. (Photo by) Joe Gibbs Racing has inked a multiyear extension with Denny Hamlin to continue to pilot the No. 11 Toyota for the forseeable future. 'Joe and everyone at JGR are family to me and have done so much for me over the last 20 years,' Hamlin said in a press release. 'We've had a solid start to this season and we have been able to welcome some great new partners this year, so there are a lot of exciting things happening with our team not only now, but also into the future.' The three-time Daytona 500 winner is one of the most loved (and hated) drivers in Nascar. He is known for bold opinions off the track with his Actions Detrimental Podcast on Dirty Mo Radio. On the track, Hamlin is an aggressive racer with 58 career Cup Series wins. 'I really appreciate Denny and everything he has meant to our organization,' Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing, said. 'It is just really special when you think about everything we've experienced over the past 20 years, from that first moment when J.D. (Gibbs) recognized his talent at a test session, until now. It is remarkable in any sport to compete at the level Denny has for this long and we are thrilled he has been able to spend his entire career with us.' Hamlin's No. 11 team has undergone a visual change over the past few years, as FedEx slowly stepped away from its full-season sponsorship package. FedEx decreased its sponsorship to have only 13 races last year before fully backing away from its Nascar partnership this year. But Joe Gibbs Racing has completely rebranded the No. 11 car, inking major deals with new partners, including Progressive, National Debt Relief, ampm, and King's Hawaiian. At 44 years old, Hamlin is the veteran face of the Nascar Cup Series. He has been with Joe Gibbs Racing for over 20 years, signing with the team in 2003. JGR did not say how long the extension is for. Hamlin also co-owns 23XI Racing with Michael Jordan. The team is in the midst of a complicated anti-trust lawsuit against Nascar right now, and the ownership group is attempting to figure out its path forward if Nascar revokes the team's charters.
