In a major haul, Assam Rifles seize drugs worth Rs 113.36 crore in Mizoram
The security personnel arrested three persons in connection with the significant seizure during the past 24 hours.
A defence spokesman said that acting on specific intelligence, regarding the movement of drugs in Zokhawthar areas, an Area Domination Patrol (ADP) team of Assam Rifles observed two individuals carrying white rucksacks. Seeing the security forces, the drug peddlers jumped into the river and escaped across the India-Myanmar border.
On inspection of rucksacks, the para-military troops recovered 33 packets containing 3,33,300 banned methamphetamine tablets weighing 37.476 Kgs. The approximate value of the methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba or party tablets, is Rs 112.401 crore, which was likely intended for distribution in Champhai town.
Zokhawthar is a border town in eastern Mizoram's Champhai district, which shares an unfenced border with Myanmar.
In another operation, Assam Rifles found suspicious movement of two individuals on a Chinese Kenbo bike and intercepted them. During the search of the two individuals, 11 soap cases (128 gm) containing heroin worth Rs 96 lakh were found and seized.
In the third operation, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police, while conducting a search operation in Chanmari areas of Aizawl district, recovered 7,000 detonators from an individual, who kept the explosive materials in his house. The recovered drugs and detonators, along with the three arrested drug peddlers, have been handed over to police.
Cross-border illegal trades of drugs, arms and ammunition and other contrabands are rampant in bordering Mizoram. Myanmar's Chin state is a hub for smuggling of varied drugs, exotic wildlife animals and many other contraband through six Mizoram districts -- Champhai, Siaha, Lawngtlai, Hnahthial, Saitual and Serchhip. Mizoram shares 510 km and 318 km of unfenced border with Myanmar and Bangladesh, respectively.

Cyber criminals swindle Pune businessman of Rs 2.15 crore, posing as woman with marriage proposal
A 35-year-old Pune businessman lost Rs 2.15 crore to Cyber criminals posing as a woman who approached him on the pretext of marriage proposal and lured him with huge profits on currency trading. The victim was manipulated into making close to 28 transactions to mule accounts as he was made to believe that he was investing in the forex market. A First Information Report(FIR) in the case was registered at Cyber Crime police station of Pune by the victim who runs a company in the service industry. Between April and June earlier this year, the victim was defrauded of a total of Rs 2.15 crore, by cyber criminals posing as 'Aakriti Sharma', claiming she was from a business family. She said she had gotten the complainant's contact from matrimonial services and got in touch with the complainant over Whatsapp. The woman claimed her family ran a furniture business in Indore and said she was interested in taking the marriage proposal forward. She said that she and her brother were also into currency trading from which they were getting 25 per cent profit. As the man continued communicating with the woman with intent to take the proposal further, she convinced him to start investing in currency trading. She made him log onto a fraudulent trading platform and open his own profile on it. The complainant was given details of fraudulent bank accounts to send money to and each of his transfers was getting reflected on the fraudulent application along with corresponding high gains in US dollars. As the complainant continued talking to the woman he also made large transfers through the platform thinking he was getting huge profits. After transferring Rs 2.15 crore the corresponding profits as reflected on the platform were Rs four crore. As the complainant submitted a withdrawal request, he was asked to pay tax of Rs 57 lakh. At this point when he discussed the issue with his friends, the complainant was made to realise that he had been defrauded. He subsequently approached the Cyber crime police station and an FIR was registered on Tuesday following a preliminary inquiry.

Two teen brothers killed as mud house collapses, CM directs for fin aid
Varanasi: Two teenage siblings got buried under the debris and died after the wall of a mud house collapsed in Bhaithauli village under Cholapur police station on Wednesday. They were heading to their paddy field when the incident occurred. Taking a serious note of the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condoled their demise and directed the district administration to ensure immediate relief to the family of the deceased. District magistrate Satyendra Kumar said that, as per the CM's directives, ex gratia of Rs four lakh for each deceased was provided to the affected family from the disaster relief fund. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Varuna zone Pramod Kumar said that the bodies were sent for postmortem examination. During the initial investigation by the police, it came to light that Aditya Gautam (18) and Ankit Gautam (16), sons of a postman, Santosh Kumar, and residents of Bhaithauli village, were heading to the fields on a motorbike for paddy sowing on Wednesday morning. They travelled about 300 meters from their home when the wall of a mud house belonging to a local resident Dilip Kumar collapsed, killing them. Police form new cell to monitor contract killers
1 2 3 Patna: In the wake of a recent surge in killings by shooters, including high-profile murders like that of businessman Gopal Khemka and advocate Jitendra Mehta in Patna, Bihar Police Headquarters (PHQ) on Wednesday announced the formation of a special "Contract killer monitoring cell" to tackle professional hitmen. Additional Director General (ADG) of PHQ Kundan Krishnan said the new cell, formed under the Bihar Special Task Force (STF), will maintain a comprehensive database of approximately 350 known contract killers, with their physical descriptions, addresses and other crucial details. "This database will aid in the quick identification of suspects through CCTV camera footage analysis, a method that has proven successful in recent cases," he said. The move is expected to enhance the police's ability to prevent and solve such crimes through better intelligence gathering and interstate coordination. The police have already established a "Kodha cell" to monitor the Kodha gang, whose operations extend beyond Bihar. The gang members primarily originate from three to four villages in the Kodha block of Katihar district. The cell helps other state police forces identify the Kodha gang members. "Our intelligence unit, working with the Kodha Cell, has successfully solved 50 cases this year alone, both within Bihar and in other states, leading to the arrest of 70 criminals and recovery of more than Rs 55 lakh in criminal proceeds," said Krishnan. Additionally, in a significant breakthrough in an ongoing anti-Maoist operations, the Bihar STF arrested 82 Maoists this year till July 15. Besides, two wanted Maoist leaders, including Ravan's aide and spokesperson Akhilesh Singh, have surrendered. The continuous campaign has achieved a remarkable success in north Bihar, where their presence is completely eliminated. In Magadh zone, only one wanted Maoist Nitesh Yadav remains at large, currently believed to be hiding in the hilly regions of Palamu district in Jharkhand. The JB zone reports only three armed Maoists remaining, the ADG said. "The campaign has also dealt a significant blow to the Maoists' financial resources by destroying opium cultivation fields in the Magadh region, severely disrupting their supply network," Krishnan added. During various raids, security forces recovered significant arms and ammunition, including two semi-automatic rifles and 67 PMK (machine gun).
