KATSEYE's Lara posts on Pahalgam 20 days after attack, K-pop fans school her with 'don't use India for aesthetics'
In the past few weeks, tensions between India and Pakistan have reached an all-time high. It began with the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives. India responded with Operation Sindoor, a military strike targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir—marking a significant escalation in Indo-Pak hostilities.
A majority of Indian celebrities stood firmly with the Indian Armed Forces, and Indian BTS and BLACKPINK fans also joined the movement, actively countering anti-India narratives online. Notably, two Indian K-pop idols—Aria from X:IN and Sriya Lenka from BLACKSWAN—openly expressed their support.

KATSEYE's Lara Raj faces backlash
However, KATSEYE member Lara Raj has stirred controversy among Indian K-pop fans. The vocalist of the HYBE girl group has Tamil roots and was born and raised in Los Angeles. Known for embracing her heritage, she has often shared pictures on Instagram wearing bindis, an Om pendant, and even sarees—openly celebrating her Indian identity.
Despite this, fans were upset that she remained silent about the Indian Armed Forces' response to the crisis.
Posts 20 days after the attack
What infuriated fans further was that Lara only posted about the Pahalgam attack 20 days after it occurred—and only after Indian K-pop fans began questioning her silence on Instagram.
After 20 days ...
Fans argued that despite proudly displaying her Indian heritage, Lara failed to acknowledge the sacrifices of Indian soldiers. Defenders noted that although she is of Indian descent, she holds American nationality.
However, Indian K-pop fans pointed out that nationality is irrelevant, as Lara has previously spoken out on global issues like the Gaza crisis and LGBTQ+ rights—suggesting she is not restricted by her label. Many netizens also criticized the pattern of NRIs using Indian culture and aesthetics for visibility, while remaining silent during politically sensitive times.
Fans react
Several fans said Lara was using her Indian identity to get attention, and called her silence fake or insincere. One said, "Imagine making India your whole aesthetic but not speaking up for your own country. It's giving privileged and shameful."

Another asked, "Can anyone who has Lara's Weverse DMs ask her to speak up and spread awareness about the India-Pak war? We need the support and exposure right now :/."

A user wrote, "Indians should boycott Lara. She's the only Indian K-pop idol who hasn't posted anything about this, yet she spoke about Palestine and LGBTQ rights because she's bi."
Indians should boycott lara + go get her instagram account comment She is only indian k-pop idol whi haven't posted anything but she posted about palestine and LGBTQ rights for herself as she's Bi https://t.co/GjVN21UqCc pic.twitter.com/W2LB720sRa
Another added, "Non-Indian KATSEYE stans will act like Lara did something huge by posting that story, but if she flaunts Indian culture when it benefits her, then that story is the bare minimum—and it's late."
Non Indian katseye stans are going to act like Lara has done some big favor posting that support story but if she is going around flaunting Indian culture when it benefits her then her posting a story in support of India is bare minimum that should've been done days ago.
One stated, "Even if Lara from KATSEYE is an NRI, it doesn't change the fact that she's Indian and has used Indian aesthetics for hype. If she's so proud, why not speak up when it matters? Next time she does it for hype, she's getting cancelled."
Even if Lara from KATSEYE is a nri, it doesn't change the fact than she's an Indian and has been using Indian aesthetics for hype. If she's that proud to be Indian, then why doesn't she speak up when it's needed the most? Next time she uses India for hype, she's getting cancelled
With KATSEYE being promoted as a global pop act rather than a traditional K-pop group, fans believe its members have more freedom to express personal views. This India–Pakistan crisis has once again shown how vocal and discerning Indian social media can be—especially when cultural identity is perceived as performative.

Jax Taylor has quit social media in an effort to protect his mental health. The 45-year-old reality TV star – who previously confessed to battling a drug addiction – has announced that he's taking a break from social media platforms, as he focuses on his 'mental health and recovery". Jax – who has Cruz, four, with Brittany Cartwright, his estranged wife – wrote on Instagram Story: 'I've made the decision to stay off social media for the next while to prioritize my mental health and recovery. My team will be running it for the time being. (sic)" Jax confessed that certain posts on social media can be triggering. He said, 'The phone has become a problem. Do I need to be on social media? No, I don't." Meanwhile, Jax previously admitted that he's been battling a cocaine addiction for more than 20 years. He said on the 'Hot Mic' podcast, 'I have substance issues – primarily with cocaine. It's hard to say out loud. I've been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I'm 45. There was times where I would stop doing it but then there were times where I'd go heavy on it. I just want to let people know this is a really, really tough disease and it's a really tough sickness." Brittany subsequently claimed that she spent years trying to help Jax to 'get better". She said on 'When Reality Hits', 'No one wants Jax to be better more than I do, let's be real. 'I tried and tried and tried for years to help this man get better and for us to be a happy family, I was deeply and madly in love with him, there's no one that can ever deny that," she concluded. Justin Bieber's SKYLRK debut gets roasted online, fans say he ‘raided Hailey's closet'
Justin Bieber is no stranger to bold fashion, but his latest attempt to tease his upcoming fashion label, SKYLRK, got dragged instead of hyped. On Friday, the 31-year-old dropped some 'soft launch' fits on Instagram, including a cobalt-blue matching ensemble complete with fuzzy socks and slides — and the internet is not feeling it. View this post on Instagram Justin Bieber drops SKYLRK sneak peek, internet says 'keep it, king' What was meant to be a cool, candid sneak peek quickly spiralled into meme central. Why? Because the photos appeared to be shot in what fans believe is Hailey Bieber's walk-in wardrobe — complete with racks of women's designer dresses, stilettos, and a whole jewellery museum in the background. Naturally, fans did not hold back. Fans react: 'Give Hailey her leggings back' From Pilates comparisons to closet conspiracy theories, the roast fest took off fast. One of the top-liked comments read, 'Justin, stop playing and give Hailey her leggings back.' Another fan called it out bluntly: 'Get out of her closet, Biebs.' The comments on his post | Credit: Instagram/justinbieber Others joked about the fit looking like 'Pilates starter pack energy,' while one user posted a meme of Spongebob with skinny legs. Someone even zoomed into Bieber's lower half and asked, 'Not the little peepee stains, Justin, come on now.' Brutal? Absolutely. Iconic? Maybe. Justin and Hailey Bieber | Credit: Instagram/haileybieber SKYLRK remains a fashion mystery Despite the online chaos, Bieber seems committed to his vision. SKYLRK — the name of the brand he has been teasing since 2023 — still has no official drops, no product reveals, and zero posts on its Instagram page. Its website? Locked behind a password. Suspiciously secretive or genius-level hype building? View this post on Instagram Reportedly, the line will include sweatsuits, beanies, slides, sunglasses, basketball gear, and trainers — a more elevated sibling to Drew House. And according to Page Six, Hailey Bieber herself had a hand in the design process. She previously hinted via a now-expired Instagram Story that she was 'helping out.' With comparisons already flying between SKYLRK's promo items and Hailey's Rhode products (especially that phone case fans are calling a dupe of her Lip Case), some are wondering if this is a fashion crossover — or just a closet clash.
