Tripura's heath-care system 'completely collapsed' under BJP government, alleges Congress
Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty on Saturday (August 17, 2025) alleged that instead of delivering quality health care, the State has witnessed corruption and medical negligence, leading to deaths.

'Reports from both government and independent agencies have 'punctured' the much-publicised claim of a health revolution,' he claimed.
'According to a recent report by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Tripura ranked first among northeastern States in malaria and chikungunya cases in 2024-25, despite having only 44 lakh population as compared to Assam's over three crore,' Mr. Chakraborty said.

'In 2023 alone, the State recorded 22,412 malaria cases, nearly half of the Northeast's total, while chikungunya cases rose from 1,557 in 2023 to 2,452 in December 2024,' he said.
Mr. Chakraborty said the report further revealed a disturbing rise in HIV cases. Between January and November 2024, 1,237 people were found to be positive out of 12,660 people tested.
Alleging that corruption has been rampant in medical recruitments, he claimed that candidates scoring as low as 14-15 marks out of 100 were appointed as medical officers by the government.
"The State Government is more interested in creating flashy showcases than real reforms," Mr. Chakraborty alleged, urging the Chief Minister to take concrete measures to strengthen the health-care system.

Teenager dies during dahi handi celebrations in Mumbai
Mumbai: A day after Rohan Valvi, 14, from Adarsh Nagar in the Marol area died during Dahi Handi celebrations, local residents recounted the tragic sequence of events that unfolded. Patel, who visited the family, said Valvi was associated with the Gaondevi Govinda Pathak. "I will provide any financial help possible from my side as the family is poor. The boy was suffering from jaundice and did not attend practice sessions for the past three days. On Saturday, however, he joined the celebrations against his family's wishes. His parents were reluctant for him to participate as his health had not recovered fully," said Patel. NDA announces CP Radhakrishnan as candidate for Vice Presidential election
The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has announced Maharashtra Governor C P Radhakrishnan as its Vice Presidential candidate. Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post, citing health reasons and the need to follow medical advice, on July 21. The resignation was addressed to the President of India. 'To prioritise healthcare and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution,' Dhankhar wrote in his letter to the President. C P Radhakrishnan, born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, is currently serving as the 24th Governor of Maharashtra. He assumed office on July 31, 2024, after previously serving as the Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024. In 2024, he also held additional charges as the Governor of Telangana and the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Radhakrishnan began his political career as an RSS worker and was part of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh's Tamil Nadu executive in 1974. He was elected twice as a Member of Parliament from Coimbatore in 1998 and 1999. Between 2004 and 2007, he served as the Tamil Nadu State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In addition to political responsibilities, Radhakrishnan was Chairman of the Coir Board, Kochi, from 2016 to 2020. From 2020 to 2022, he was the BJP's All-India in-charge for Kerala.
