FM intensifies diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions

CAIRO, July 18 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty continued his intensive diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating regional tensions.
As part of these efforts, Abdelatty held separate consultations with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said on Friday that the discussions focused on advancing efforts to secure a durable ceasefire between Iran and Israel, avert a resurgence of hostilities, and strengthen political and diplomatic channels for conflict settlement.
The talks also examined prospects for reviving negotiations between Iran, the IAEA, and the E3 group, with a view to reinvigorating diplomatic engagement and addressing persisting concerns over Iran's nuclear program, the spokesman said.
This comes as the anticipated date to activate the UN sanctions mechanism draws near, expected within the next few weeks, according to announcements from the E3 countries, the spokesman added.
During his call with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Abdelatty discussed prospects for enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and tourism, he added.
In a separate conversation with the IAEA Director General, discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Egypt and the agency in the peaceful applications of nuclear energy. (MENA)

Five civilians, three gunmen Killed in terrorist attack in Iran - Region

Gunmen killed five civilians during a "terrorist attack" on a judiciary building in southeast Iran on Saturday before being killed themselves, state media reported. "Unknown gunmen attacked the judiciary centre in Zahedan," the capital of southeastern Sistan-Baluchistan province, the judiciary's Mizan Online said. "Five people have been killed and 13 injured in this terrorist attack," the report said while adding that the counts are "preliminary" and the toll may rise. Separately, the official IRNA news agency reported that three of the attackers were killed during the assault, citing the regional headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). According to Alireza Daliri, deputy police commander of Sistan-Baluchistan province, the attackers attempted to enter the building disguised as visitors. The assailants threw a grenade into the building, Daliri said, killing several people inside, including a one-year-old baby and the child's mother. According to Iranian media, Jaish al-Adl (Arabic for "Army of Justice"), a Baloch jihadist group based in Pakistan but also active in Iran, claimed responsibility for the attack. Located about 1,200 kilometres (745 miles) southeast of the capital Tehran, the restive province shares a long border with Pakistan and Afghanistan. The area has been the scene of recurring clashes between Iranian security forces, including the IRGC, and rebels from the Baluch minority, radical Sunni groups, and drug traffickers. In one of the deadliest incidents in the region, ten police officers were killed in October in what authorities also described as a "terrorist" attack.
