TAWAU: Public awareness efforts are being stepped up to highlight the ecological value of the Damai Rainforest Landscape and its nomination potential as a Unesco World Heritage Site. Kalabakan MP Datuk Andy Muhammad Suryady Bandy said this during a community engagement event aimed at fostering local understanding of the region's biodiversity. He stressed that community support is vital to preserving the Damai Landscape, which comprises Danum Valley, Maliau Basin, and Imbak Canyon. The Damai area protects between 15 and 20 per cent of Borneo's forest biodiversity and is home to more than 15,000 plant species. The launch event was held at Maliau Basin, with hopes that global recognition will follow. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Bohey Dulang Island closed after crocodile sighting

Published on: Tuesday, June 10, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jun 10, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Bohey Dulang Island in Tun Sakaran Marine Park has been closed from June 10 to 13 following a crocodile sighting. Sabah Parks announced the closure to allow risk mitigation operations involving the Wildlife Department and police, prioritizing public safety. Advertisement A popular tourist destination for its scenic views and hiking trail, Bohey Dulang is the park's second-largest island, located 30 minutes from Semporna. The closure follows a rise in crocodile-human conflicts in Sabah, linked to habitat loss rather than crocodile overpopulation. Crocodiles, though protected, may be removed if deemed a threat to public safety. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
