‘Will wipe him out': Israeli minister mocks jailed senior Palestinian leader convicted in 2002; sparks outrage
Newly surfaced footage on social media shows far-right Israeli minister Itamar Ben Gvir mocking prominent Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti inside his cell.
The Palestinian Authority denounced the video, with Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh calling it 'the epitome of psychological, moral and physical terrorism.'
The footage marks the first sighting of Barghouti, 66, in years, who is currently serving five life sentences following his 2002 conviction for involvement in planning attacks that killed five Israeli civilians. It appears to be filmed inside the high-security prison in southern Israel where Barghouti is held.
"You will not win. He who messes with the people of Israel, he who will murder our children, he who will murder our women, we will wipe him out,' Gvir, Israel's national security minister, appears to tell him in the video.
"You need to know this, throughout history," Gvir says as Barghouti tries to interject.
The video initially appeared on Thursday in messaging groups supporting Gvir before being reposted on his X account.
The minister said that after seeing reports that 'all sorts of senior officials' in the Palestinian Authority objected to his remarks, he would 'repeat it again and again without apologising,' reported the BBC.

Palestinian prisoner rights groups report that Barghouti has been held in solitary confinement since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Last year, they accused prison guards of 'brutally assaulting' him in his cell, an allegation that the Israeli prison service has denied.
'You can't humiliate a person who is weakened by being put in a jail and in a cell,' said Barghouti's cousin, Mustafa Barghouti, as quoted by CNN.
'In reality, he humiliated the Israeli government by this behavior.'
Barghouti is among the prisoners Hamas is believed to have demanded in a potential exchange for the remaining hostages it holds, though Israel is considered highly unlikely to agree to his release, reported the BBC.
Barghouti continues to be a senior leader within the Fatah faction, which leads the Palestinian Authority (PA), and was targeted by Israel for his prominent role in the Second Palestinian Intifada, the uprising that took place between 2000 to 2005.
Barghouti's wife, Fadwa Al Barghouti, said in a social media post that she did not immediately recognize him.
'They are still, Marwan, pursuing you and following you even in the solitary confinement cell where you've been living for two years. The struggle against the occupation and its symbols with you continues, and the chains are still on your hands,' she said through a post on social media.
The reason Ben Gvir shared the video remains unclear. The far-right national security minister, known for his provocative remarks, has previously served a prison sentence for anti-Arab incitement, as per CNN.

'Plan to kill, humiliate Muslims...: Netanyahu's 'Greater Israel' plan sparks Arab outrage, Houthi leader issues chilling warning, says...
Houthi leader Abdul Malik Houthi warned of 'bad consequence' for Israel. (File) Israel-Hamas war: Amid the outpouring of anger from the Arab world over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks on 'Greater Israel', the Jewish state has now drawn the ire of one of its oldest foes, the Yemeni Houthis, who have condemned Israeli PM's statement, calling it a plan to 'kill and humiliate Muslims'. What did the Houthi leader say? In a televised address on a Houthi-run TV channel, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen's Ansar Allah, warned of 'bad consequences' for Israel if Benjamin Netanyahu moves forward with his contentious 'Greater Israel' plan. The Houthi leader said Netanyahu's plan, backed by the United States, was a clear attempt to ' divide and humiliate the Islamic Ummah'. 'Israel ultimate goal is to kill Muslims in the Arab world, or force them to migrate in large numbers, to establish its dominance over the Muslim Ummah. After bombing Palestine, Lebanon, Iran and other Muslim nations, Netanyahu is now openly talking about a Greater Israel, making it clear the Israel and US plan to subjugate Arab Muslims,' he alleged. Why Abdul-Malik slammed Arab world? Abdul-Malik also lashed out at the Arab world for not strongly opposing Netanyahu's comments, calling the alleged inaction of the Arab Muslim nations as 'worrying'. The Houthi leader, one of key figures in the Yemeni civil war, also condemned Israel's brutal military campaign in the Gaza Strip, accusing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of killing journalists to prevent the truth about the atrocities in Gaza from reaching the world. 'What is happening in Gaza is more horrific than any crimes committed in any other part of the world, but the world continues to watch silently as Israel massacres innocent Palestinians, including women and children.' Why 'Greater Israel' is controversial? Greater Israel is an idea popular among Israel's extreme right-wing, which proposes the contentious plan of absorbing neighboring Arab countries, including Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Iraq and a large part of Saudi Arabia, into a greater Jewish state. The idea proposes the use of military might to occupy Israel's Arab neighbors and absorbing their territory to expand the state of Israel. Meanwhile, the backlash over Benjamin Netanyahu's comments over Greater Israel comes days after Israel Defense Forces (IDF) chief Eyal Zamir opposed the Israeli Prime Minister's plan to occupy parts of the Gaza Strip which are not already under the control of Israel.

US makes major visa announcement for Gazans; Laura Loomer claimed Palestinian refugees flooding airports
US announces halting all visitors' visa from Gaza. The State Department made a major announcement of halting all visitor visas for people from Gaza for the time being, as it conducts a full and thorough review of the "process and procedures" used to issue medial-humanitarian visas in recent days. 'All visitor visas for individuals from Gaza are being stopped while we conduct a full and thorough review of the process and procedures used to issue a small number of temporary medical-humanitarian visas in recent days,' the department wrote in a statement posted to X. The announcement came after MAGA activist Laura Loomer ranted for a day how Palestinians have been entering the country via a humanitarian organization through various airports. Loomer questioned how so many Palestinians were getting visa from the State Department. Loomer said she obtained video footage of Palestinians who claim to be refugees from Gaza coming into the US via San Francisco and Houston. "The Palestinians traveled from Gaza to the US with the help of a group called 'Heal Palestine'. How did Palestinians get visas under the Trump administration to get into the United States? Did @StateDept approve this? How did they get out of Gaza? Is @SecRubio aware of this?" Loomer ranted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Loomer said the administration needed to shut this before a family member of one of these Gazans turn rogue and kills Americans for Hamas. 'Deeply concerned about the incoming flights - including to Texas - allegedly filled with folks from Gaza as reported by @LauraLoomer. Inquiring,' Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) wrote on Friday. Earlier this month, France suspended evacuations from Gaza after a Palestinian student allegedly shared a social media post with an image of Adolf Hitler that called for killing Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told France Info radio that the woman "must leave the country" and that she "has no place" in France. "No evacuation of any kind will take place until we have drawn the necessary conclusions from this investigation," Barrot said in the interview.
