Immigration Nabs 17 Bangladeshi Illegal Immigrants In Kota Bharu
KOTA BHARU, May 19 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Immigration Department arrested 17 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh through Ops Serkap in Kota Bharu yesterday.
Its director Yusoff Khan Mohd Hassan said the operation, which began at 4 pm, involved 15 officers and members of the state immigration enforcement division.
"Acting on intelligence, our party inspected foreigners around Pengkalan Chepa here, namely two houses around Taman Seri, a house in Batu 6 Tok Kaya and a kongsi in Mukim Pulau Gajah.
"All the foreigners from Bangladesh are aged between 19 and 40 and have been sent to the Tanah Merah Immigration Depot for further investigation," he said in a statement today.
He said 14 immigrants were suspected of infringing Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, while three other immigrants believed to be agents are being investigated under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) 2007.

‘Victims of boat tragedy were not wearing life jackets'
KLANG: All victims involved in the capsized boat incident in the waters off Tanjung Harapan were believed to not have been wearing life jackets. North Klang District Police chief Asst Comm S. Vijaya Rao (pic) said initial investigations also revealed that the boat, which was being test-driven, was operated by its owner at the time. The absence of life jackets has complicated the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the two remaining missing victims out of the six individuals who were on board. 'Those who engage in activities at sea must wear life jackets, as they prove invaluable during emergencies such as this capsized boat incident. Additionally, possessing swimming skills is essential,' he stated at a press conference held at the search site in Tanjung Harapan yesterday. Vijaya said the location where the boat capsized on Friday had been identified, but strong currents may have swept the two missing victims away and caused them to drown. Meanwhile, he said police had recorded statements from three individuals, including one survivor, Bernama reported. 'The actual cause of the incident has yet to be determined, and the case is being investigated under Section 280 of the Penal Code.' In the incident at about 5pm, three individuals, including a child, died; one survived (Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17), while a married couple remains missing. The deceased were Darren Gan, three; Cheu Son Hin, 50; and Fong Yong Sen, 29, while those still missing have been identified as Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife Careen Man, 29, both from Klang Utama.

Losing five family members to horrific car crash
Cherished memories: Five members of the family were killed in the crash near Jerantut. — Bernama IPOH: For Muhammat Ridzuan Ishak, 33, the loss of his younger brother in a tragic accident in Jerantut, Pahang, is difficult to bear, especially since he gave much joy to his family with his antics and cheerfulness. He said that it was a harsh reality to accept when his brother Muhammad Ikmal Ishak, 26, was killed along with his wife, Nur Arfiqah Aziz Jaafar, 23, and three of his in-laws in a road accident at KM7, Jalan Jerantut-Maran, in Pahang. Earlier, Jerantut police chief Supt Zukri Muhammad confirmed that Muhammad Ikmal and his wife, Nur Arfiqah, from Ulu Kinta, Perak, together with Nur Arfiqah's three siblings – Mohammad Zulkifli, 21, Mohamad Azizul Hakimi, 19, and Nurul Hazwani, 17 – all from Bota, Perak, were killed in an accident involving another vehicle near Jerantut on Friday night. A nearby hospital treated the injured driver and two passengers from the other vehicle. 'The last time we met was on Wednesday at Taman Malar, Tambun, when the siblings gathered, and as usual, my brother was cheerful. We have seven siblings, and he was the sixth child. 'Before the incident, I saw a WhatsApp message around 10pm where he complained that it was the first time he was using this road and that it would be the last time,' he said, Bernama reported. Recalling the incident, Muhammat Ridzuan said he received a phone call from Nur Arfiqah's brother informing him about the tragedy. 'I was stunned. But even though I was sad, I will accept this test from Allah,' added Muhammat Ridzuan. Meanwhile, the mother who lost four children in the road accident said she had asked them not to visit their uncle on that day. Zaini Noh, 52, who is the mother of Nur Arfiqah and her siblings, said her motherly instinct made her feel that something untoward was going to happen. Hence, she advised her four children and son-in-law to cancel their plans to spend Hari Raya Aidiladha at their uncle's house in Jerantut. 'I could not go because I was unwell. I told them not to go as my husband and I will not be going,' Sinar Harian quoted her as saying.
