Federal Tax Authority organises 'Innovation Retreat' on Taxes' ‘Zero Digital Bureaucracy' in line with second phase of Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme
The FTA highlighted that the purpose of the retreat was to evaluate current procedures and discuss ways to eliminate unnecessary steps, aiming to enhance the efficiency of government operations. H.E. Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director General of the FTA, emphasised that the retreat demonstrates the Authority's commitment to accelerating the implementation of the 'Zero Government Bureaucracy' programme, launched by the UAE's visionary leadership. This programme also aims to make procedures more convenient, achieve a qualitative shift in government transactions, and create a business-friendly environment that attracts talent and innovation.
During the opening of the 'Zero Digital Bureaucracy' retreat at the FTA's headquarters in Dubai, His Excellency stated: 'Since the launch of the 'Zero Government Bureaucracy' programme, in 2023, the FTA has intensified its efforts to streamline tax services, eliminate unnecessary procedures, and continuously improve service efficiency and quality. These efforts aim to build a pioneering future system in government operations.'
His Excellency added: 'These efforts culminated in the Federal Tax Authority winning the 'Zero Government Bureaucracy' award in its inaugural edition in the 'Economic Impact' category.
'This achievement reflects our continuous pursuit of performance enhancement and the promotion of a culture of innovation across all sectors of the FTA, in alignment with our vision to become a world-leading tax authority. These accomplishments serve as motivation for launching additional initiatives and innovations that will streamline and accelerate service delivery – aiming for a tangible impact in a short period of time, and positioning UAE government services as the best in the world.'
For his part, Abdulla Al Bastaki, Chief Executive Officer of the Information Technology Sector at the FTA, headed up the 'Zero Government Bureaucracy' programme implementation team, and stressed the significance of this retreat.
This initiative aligns with the Authority's efforts in the second cycle of the Zero Government Bureaucracy programme, launched this year. The retreat aims to eliminate 100% of digital bureaucracy, modernise and enhance all digital systems, effectively integrate artificial intelligence (AI), and continue to eliminate unnecessary procedures and steps.
Al Bastaki further stated that the FTA will continue collaborating with its strategic partners – both in the government and the private sector – to eliminate additional unnecessary procedures and requirements in its services. The goal is to contribute to enhancing government integration, supporting data sharing, and developing innovative solutions to maintain high performance quality and excellence in the services provided to customers.
Attended by a significant number of employees from various sectors of the FTA, the agenda for discussion included global best practices in simplifying government procedures were reviewed, and a number of ideas and proposals were discussed to support the Authority's efforts in eliminating bureaucracy, improving operational efficiency, and sustainably improving customer experiences.
Following its conclusion, the FTA's Innovation Team confirmed that all ideas and proposals that had been proposed during the retreat would be reviewed, refined and studied. Furthermore, it was stated that the outcomes of the retreat would be utilised in the Authority's ongoing development plans.

SCZONE, Toyota Tsusho discuss inauguration of Ro-Ro terminal in West Port Said
A high-level delegation from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), headed by Chairperson Walid Gamal El-Din, has held discussions in Tokyo with Toyota Tsusho over the expected inauguration date of the new roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) car terminal at West Port Said Port. The delegation, which also included Mohamed Ibrahim, Assistant Chairperson of the Authority, and Mohamed Abou El-Dahab, Director General of Green Economy, was in Japan to attend the ninth edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9). On the sidelines of the conference, the SCZONE team met with representatives of Toyota Tsusho—one of the three international partners operating the West Port Said Ro-Ro terminal, alongside Bolloré (France) and NYK (Japan). The terminal is being developed on 212,000 square metres, with a 600-metre quay and a 170,000-square-metre logistics yard. The meeting was attended by Takao Tomita, General Manager of Infrastructure Projects at Toyota Tsusho, and Mohamed Abdel Gawad, Egypt's Minister Plenipotentiary for Trade in Japan. Gamal El-Din underscored the importance of completing the terminal on schedule, stressing its role in supporting the automotive industry, which the SCZONE seeks to localise within its industrial zones. He said the project would enhance the SCZONE's attractiveness as an investment destination, positioning it as a regional hub for vehicle manufacturing and related industries by ensuring access to diverse international markets. He further noted the integration between the Authority's ports and industrial zones, which enables the creation of smart manufacturing and logistics bases at the heart of a global trade corridor, strengthening the SCZONE's competitiveness and reinforcing its role in global supply chains. The TICAD forum, now in its ninth edition, is a platform for Asia–Africa cooperation, bringing together African nations, development partners, international organisations, donor countries, private sector representatives and civil society. The conference focuses on Africa's development priorities in areas including trade, investment, sustainable growth and governance, while mobilising international support. Since its launch in 1993, TICAD was held every five years until 2013, and has since been convened every three years, alternating between Japan and an African country. The current edition follows TICAD8, which was hosted by Tunisia in 2022.

Additionally, the Authority has automated the Marine Crew Evaluation Booking process, reducing manual intervention and achieving high operational efficiency. Hamed Ali Hassan, Director of Maritime Registration at Dubai Maritime Authority, emphasized the importance of participating in such workshops to exchange knowledge and share best practices that highlight the continued efforts of legislative bodies—particularly Dubai Maritime Authority—in enhancing regulatory frameworks. The Authority also presented its outstanding performance over the past year, which has bolstered Dubai's position as a regional and global leader in maritime services. Hassan stressed that the Authority places strong emphasis on the regulation of marine leisure activities, urging users to obtain prior permits from the relevant authorities that manage or own private areas. He also highlighted the importance of avoiding obstruction of navigational paths or disturbing other sea users. The Authority enforces restrictions on access to Dubai Water Canal for certain marine vessels to maintain user safety and ensure smooth navigation. He added: 'We are continuously updating systems and services to ensure a smart, safe, and advanced marine environment that meets user expectations and supports the sector's sustainability. We emphasize the need for proper regulation of marine leisure activities and obtaining the required permits to avoid practices that may negatively impact maritime safety'.
