100% remote work for all Ajman government entities on Fridays

Gulf Today23-06-2025
Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman Executive Council, presided over the Council's meeting held on Monday, at the Government Agencies Complex at the Emiri Diwan.
During the meeting, the Council approved the launch of the "Our Balanced Summer" initiative, a forward-looking programme that reflects the government's commitment to employee well-being and quality of life during the summer months, in alignment with the Year of Community.
The initiative introduces a 100% remote work system every Friday, effective from July 1 to Aug.22, 2025, alongside a reduction in working hours from Monday to Thursday, set from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm, instead of the usual 8-hour day. These measures aim to foster work-life balance while ensuring the seamless delivery of essential government services through flexible internal structures across government entities.
The initiative is designed to promote institutional efficiency, adapt to the summer climate, and maintain high-quality public service delivery through optimized organizational workflows.
Sheikh Ammar affirmed that the Ajman Government, under the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, places great importance on cultivating a dynamic and supportive work environment that meets the professional and personal needs of employees.
He noted that the stability of employees and their families is a cornerstone of the emirate's development journey, emphasizing that human well-being is a central priority, essential for institutional excellence and the advancement of government performance.
Sheikh Ammar added, 'The 'Our Balanced Summer' initiative also reflects our commitment to environmental sustainability by reducing daily transportation emissions, in support of Ajman Vision 2030, which aspires to build a balanced, resilient, and sustainable society.'
The Human Resources Department, in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, will oversee the initiative's rollout, develop relevant operational models, and present an assessment report by the end of September 2025 to evaluate its impact on institutional performance and employee and community satisfaction.
This initiative embodies Ajman Government's ongoing efforts to foster a flexible, inclusive, and motivating work culture that enhances productivity and promotes happiness across the public sector.
The Council, in the presence of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Ruler's Representative for Administrative and Financial Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Executive Council; Sheikh Abdulaziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Tourism Development Department; Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Municipality and Planning Department; and other Council members, reviewed the outcomes of the recent official visit to Chongqing Municipality in China, led by Sheikh Ammar.
The Council recommended continued engagement with Chinese counterparts by convening coordination meetings at least once every quarter throughout 2025, in addition to activating academic exchange programs.
Further recommendations emphasised attracting Chinese investments to Ajman, particularly in high-impact sectors such as technology and artificial intelligence, light manufacturing and clean technologies, logistics and supply chains, smart devices, medical equipment, and vocational education and training.
The Council also proposed extending an official invitation to a Chinese delegation to visit Ajman, as part of a curated hosting program showcasing the emirate's urban planning, regulatory excellence, cultural richness, and economic potential.
The program will also spotlight unique investment opportunities aligned with Ajman Vision 2030, complemented by tailored incentives and facilitation packages for prospective Chinese investors.
The Executive Council approved the launch of the "Ajman Learns" project, an ambitious initiative under Ajman Vision 2030, designed to reinforce the emirate's commitment to lifelong learning.
The project aims to establish robust governance and evaluation frameworks to monitor progress in positioning Ajman as a hub of knowledge, innovation, inclusiveness, and sustainable growth.
Sheikh Ammar emphasised that investing in people through lifelong learning is essential to realising the emirate's future vision.
He further reaffirmed the directives of Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid to prioritise human capital development and build an educational system that underpins sustainable social and economic advancement.
The Council also directed the development of a new accreditation programme for technical and vocational training centers and institutes to ensure the quality and relevance of their outcomes in line with labor market needs.

UAE condemns Israeli occupation of Gaza and warns of 'catastrophic consequences'

The UAE has condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli government's decision to occupy Gaza, warning that the move will trigger 'catastrophic consequences' and include the further loss of life and worsening of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In a statement on social media platform, X, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the Israeli government's action as a blatant violation of international law. The ministry called on the wider international community, the UN and the UN Security Council to 'fulfil their responsibilities' and act to halt what it termed 'illegal practices' against Palestinian people. 'Upholding the rights of the Palestinian people is no longer a matter of political discretion, but a moral, humanitarian, and legal imperative,' the statement said. Call for a two-state solution The UAE reaffirmed what it called its 'historic and steadfast' position in supporting Palestinian rights and reiterated its commitment to a just resolution of the decades-long conflict. Central to that resolution, the ministry noted, is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The statement concluded by reaffirming the UAE's belief that regional stability is achievable only through the two-state solution. The UAE's remarks come amid growing international alarm over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, where recent escalations have left the enclave's population facing severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.

Pakistan suspends mobile data service in restive province

Pakistan has suspended cell phone data services for three weeks in the restive southwestern province of Balochistan in a bid to block communications among separatist insurgents behind a surge in recent attacks, an official and the government said. Separatist fighters demanding a bigger share of profits from the resources of the mineral-rich province have stepped up attacks in recent months, particularly on Pakistan's military, which has launched an intelligence-based offensive against them. In an order on Wednesday seen by Reuters, the government said the services would be suspended until the end of the month because of the law and order situation in the province, home to key Chinese Belt and Road projects. "The service has been suspended because they (rebels) use it for coordination and sharing information," Shahid Rind, a spokesperson for the provincial government, said on Friday. Officials said there are 8.5 million cell phone subscribers in Balochistan, Pakistan's largest province by size, which borders Afghanistan and Iran. But it is thinly populated, with just 15 million from a national population of 240 million. The news follows Pakistan's ban on road travel to Iran late last month, citing security threats. The insurgency by the separatists, who accuse Pakistan's government of depriving them of their share in regional resources, has roiled the province for decades. They primarily attack Pakistani military or Chinese nationals and their interests, but have recently started targeting senior army officers. The military said an officer and two soldiers were killed in a roadside blast set off by the militants on Tuesday. The attack targeting a vehicle was claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the strongest of the area's insurgent groups, which has also claimed responsibility for several attacks on senior officers in recent weeks. The region is home to the Gwadar Port, built by Beijing as part of a $65-billion investment in Pakistan in the Belt and Road programme designed to expand China's global reach. Islamabad accuses arch-rival India of funding and backing the insurgents in a bid to stoke instability, as Pakistan seeks international investments in the region, a charge New Delhi denies. In March, the BLA blew up a railway track and took hostage more than 400 train passengers in an attack that killed 31, including 23 soldiers.

Marcos hopes China will give PH notice on rocket launches

President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. said he hopes China will inform the Philippines in advance when launching rockets so local authorities can monitor any falling debris. Speaking to the Philippine media delegation in India, Marcos said the Philippines could recover debris from the sea and return it to China if given prior notice. He added that Beijing did not commit any violations in connection with its recent rocket launch near Palawan, and recalled telling Chinese President Xi Jinping that the Philippines has no interest in China's rockets. The statement comes after concerns were raised over the launch of China's Long March-12 rocket, which was seen over Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, last Monday. Residents reported hearing explosions and feeling the ground shake as a fiery object crossed the sky. According to Chinese state media, the Long March-12 rocket successfully placed a group of internet satellites into orbit after launching Monday night from a commercial spacecraft site in Hainan province.
