Agencies Over Two Dozen Shots Fired Outside Residence of YouTuber Elvish Yadav Officials confirmed that unidentified attackers opened fire at the Gurugram residence of YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner Elvish Yadav in the early hours of Sunday. As reported by India Today , the shooting took place between 5 am and 6 am, when three men on motorcycles allegedly fired multiple rounds before quickly fleeing the spot. Over two dozen bullets were discharged during the assault, according to initial findings.Citing sources, India Today stated that Yadav himself was not at home during the time of the attack. The only person inside the premises was the caretaker, who fortunately remained unharmed. Authorities added that, as of now, Yadav has not lodged an official complaint regarding the firing incident.
This development comes at a time when Yadav has been embroiled in legal controversies. In November 2023, his name surfaced in connection with an alleged snake venom procurement case. According to police reports, investigators uncovered an illegal network during a raid at a banquet hall in Noida's Sector 51. Five individuals, including four snake charmers, were taken into custody for allegedly providing venom for parties and events.During the raid, authorities confiscated nine snakes, among them cobras, as well as vials of venom. Forensic examinations confirmed traces of toxins from both cobra and krait species in the seized samples. The case gained momentum after a sting operation conducted by the NGO People For Animals, which played a central role in exposing the racket. On August 6, the Supreme Court issued a stay on lower court proceedings in the snake venom case involving Yadav. The order temporarily halted trial hearings while the matter undergoes further judicial review.Siddharth 'Elvish' Yadav has built his reputation as a content creator and singer, achieving wide recognition after winning Bigg Boss OTT 2. Bengal court pulls up police after teacher's arrest on conspiracy charge, grants bail

KOLKATA: The Bidhannagar police in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district faced strong questions from the local court on Monday after arresting a jobless state government teacher on charges of planning to attack the police during an agitation that was scheduled to be held during the day but was called off, lawyers who attended the hearing said. (Shutterstock) During the court proceedings, additional chief judicial magistrate Arghya Acharya handed a copy of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the investigating officer (IO) and asked the officer to explain how it could invoke a provision in the first information report (FIR) relating to plotting mutiny in the armed forces, said lawyer Sanjukta Sen, who represented the accused, Rezaul Haque. 'The police could not explain the relevance of these sections. The judge also wanted to know the source of the purported telephonic conversation on the basis of which the arrest was made. The judge wanted to know the identity of the person with whom the accused purportedly had the conversation. The police only said they found the audio clip in a pendrive,' Sen said. 'The court granted bail after the police said it did not need the voice sample of the accused to match it with the audio clip,' Sen added. Haque is among the 25,752 school teachers and non-teaching staff (Group-C and D) from the 2016 recruitment panel whose appointments were cancelled by the Supreme Court on April 3 in the bribe-for-job case. On an appeal by the state, the top court said on April 17 that the non-tainted teachers may be allowed to continue in service until December 31 but they must go through a fresh selection test. Haque is among those teachers who are opposed to the test. Anish Sarkar, deputy commissioner of police, Bidhannagar, played the audio clip before the media on Sunday. Haque was arrested hours later. 'We did not oppose the bail because he is scheduled to appear for the test on September 7,' Sarkar told the media on Monday evening. Asked why charges of plotting mutiny in the armed forces were pressed against Haque, Sarkar said: 'I cannot comment before seeing the court order.'

Centre moves SC against HC order to resume NREGA in Bengal from Aug 1

1 2 Kolkata: The Centre on Monday moved the Supreme Court , challenging a Calcutta High Court order that asked it to resume the NREGA scheme in Bengal from Aug 1. The SC is likely to hear the plea this week. In June, the HC had directed the Centre to resume the 100 days' work programme in Bengal from Aug 1, saying the scheme could not be "put in cold storage for eternity". The scheme has been suspended in the state for nearly three years. Refusing to buy the Centre's fake job card holders argument, Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam had said, "A person who obtained wages illegally or under fictitious names could not go free and had to be dealt with firmly. But what about those who did the work genuinely? A line should be drawn and a cut-off date announced." Citing figures placed in the Lok Sabha monsoon session by the Centre, it alleged that data showed that 11,07,814 fake NREGA job cards were deleted across India between 2022 and 2025. "BJP-governed Uttar Pradesh alone accounted for 4,50,172 deletions, 40.6% of the total. The other top offenders, Odisha, Bihar, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, are all 'double engine' states. Bengal saw just 5,984 deletions, a mere 0.5%," the party had said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). "The goal is to reduce the clogs in the wheel of criminal justice and ensure quality time for serious trials," the court observed, directing the registry to place the matter before Chief Justice Sanjay V Gangapurwala for approval.
