Accident at Woodlands Checkpoint causes 3-hour lane closure; 4 people taken to hospital
SINGAPORE - Four people were taken to the hospital after an accident involving a car and a bus at Woodlands Checkpoint on the morning of May 24.
It also resulted in a lane closure for three hours, according to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA).
In response to queries, the police said they were alerted to the accident at Woodlands Crossing at 5.30am.
A 48-year-old male car driver and his three passengers, aged between 14 and 78, were taken conscious to the hospital, the police added.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said two people were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital while another two were taken to Sengkang General Hospital.
In a video uploaded on Facebook group Malaysia-Singapore Border Crossers Group 2 , at least three ambulances, one fire engine, two SCDF support vehicles and several rescue workers can be seen at the scene.
A silver-coloured MPV, which has a badly dented bonnet, appears to have collided with a Causeway Link bus.
In its first alert on Facebook at 6.10am, ICA said the accident blocked one out of three lanes leading into the Causeway.
At about 7.53am, ICA said all three lanes were blocked for 15 minutes to allow SCDF to wash the oil spillage at the accident site. More than 15 minutes later , it updated that the spillage had been cleaned and two out of three lanes were opened for vehicles departing for Johor Bahru.
At 9.09am, ICA said all lanes were open for departing traffic.
'Travellers planning to depart Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint should expect delays,' it said, adding that motorists are advised to follow its Facebook page for updates.
Police investigations are ongoing.

M'sians call out mum who 'apologised' for spending ‘only' RM1 million on daughter's birthday

MALAYSIA: A very lucky little girl in Malaysia received lavish gifts when she celebrated her birthday recently. And yet, her mum still felt compelled to apologise for having spent only RM1 million (S$303,000). Video clips from the child's birthday went viral on TikTok beginning from Monday (June 2), racking millions of views. @farhanazahra91 Selamat ulang tahun Yaya yang ke 11 tahun, besar da anak mama, semoga cita-cita untuk menjadi business women berjaya menjadi kenyataan 🥺 #farhanazahra91 #farhanazahra #cikna ♬ original sound – Farhana Zahra – Farhana Zahra @farhanazahra91 Begini rasanya bila kita dapat buat orang happy ! Menangis cikna tengok video ni 😭😭😭 #farhanazahra91 #farhanazahra #cikna ♬ original sound – Farhana Zahra – Farhana Zahra Farhana Zahra (farhanazahra91) is a businesswoman and influencer in the supplement and beauty industry. In her videos, her daughter, who just turned 11 years old, can be seen unwrapping a Rolex watch and an Apple computer from her parents. Moreover, the girl, Yaya, also received a black Toyota Vellfire. And yet, Ms Farhana wrote, 'Forgive Mama, this is all Mama could give to her child. I only spent RM1 million on this birthday.' The influencer's generosity also extended to her daughter's former driver, who received a brand spanking new red Mercedes-Benz that night. This is not the first year Ms Farhana has made the news for the extravagant gifts she gives her children. In April 2023, Yaya's younger sister, Fatima, received a luxury SUV to motivate her to go back to school after she had stopped for a while when she got sick. The influencer gave Fatima a Mercedes G Wagon, then reportedly worth RM1.79 million, when she celebrated her fifth birthday party a few nights later with family and friends, after the girl promised her mum she would go back to school. @farhanazahra91 Happy birthday Nur Fatima Az zahra yang ke 5 ❤️❤️❤️ happy dia dapat G Wagon yang dia nak, sampai dia asyik mintak nak pegang kunci je hahaha ♬ original sound – Farhana Zahra – Farhana Zahra The lavish presents given to Yaya have not gone over well with many Malaysians, who apparently feel that this is not the wisest way to raise children. 'Just goes to show money can't buy wisdom nor intelligence,' a Facebook user wrote, while another agreed that 'Money cannot buy common sense.' Another was more gentle, but addressed Yaya's parents to say, 'Even if you can afford to provide a lavish and expensive party for your daughter, perhaps moderation is better.' Some felt that the money spent on the gifts and party could have been put to other purposes. 'That amount of funds can be better used to fund underprivileged children, who I'm certain will be very grateful to be able to be gifted with a good meal on their table. But again, to each of its own,' one wrote. When the videos were shared on Reddit Malaysia, the top comment read, 'So sad 1M. My parents used to spend 20 million to 50 million for my birthday. Usually, my birthday is six months long, too. Her parents just don't love her.' Another joined in the mockery, writing, 'If you didn't get a world tour vacation, got the whole Mount Everest, given the entire share of Google and Microsoft available, given an entire country, are you even loved?' /TISG Read also: Malaysian couple bashed for having their cat's lavish birthday bash at Louis Vuitton boutique

Singapore-registered supercar owners fined for parking illegally in Thailand, Asia News

The owners of four Singapore-registered sports cars have been fined 500 to 1,000 baht (S$19 to S$40) each for parking illegally in Phuket, Thailand, according to multiple Thai media reports on Wednesday (June 4). Footage of the four vehicles illegally parked by a road outside a high-end restaurant in Phuket began trending on Wednesday on social media platform Line and Facebook pages, according to Thai publication Thaiger. Among the four, one of the cars was marked with a sticker that read "GTR Owners Club Singapore", The Phuket News reported. They were parked on a road with red and white lines, which is prohibited in Thailand. Locals expressed outrage over the vehicles' owners' flouting of traffic laws, prompting officers to react. Officers from the Phuket City Police Station responded, clamping the vehicles and handing fines to their owners who are believed to be tourists, Thai publication Khaosod reported. They were later instructed to shift their vehicles away to prevent obstruction of traffic, The Phuket News reported. Following this incident, a Thai influencer's post on Facebook showing the four Singapore-registered supercars went viral. As at Friday afternoon, the post has garnered over 10,300 likes. In the video, four Nissan GTRs can be seen lined up by the side of the road as the person recording the video turns the corner. "Why do all cars of this mode have to have wheel locks like this?" the influencer cheekily captioned the video. Many Facebook users also expressed their frustration towards the purported foreigners, with one user commenting: "The most disgusting thing is being a foreigner and not respecting Thai law." However, others felt that the fine of 1,000 baht is too lenient for these owners, with some suggesting that it would be more of a "parking fee" to them. "It's just pocket change... for these people," one user said. Another stated: "The fine is considered a parking fee, no need to waste time looking for a parking spot." [[nid:718749]] khooyihang@
