Global Payments to sell payroll unit to fintech Acrisure for $1.1 billion
Atlanta, Georgia-based Global Payments has been reviewing its business recently, selling off smaller units to become a pure-play payments processor to clients and improve profitability, which has taken a hit in recent quarters.
Last month, the company announced the sale of its issuer solutions unit, which offers card processing and account services, to FIS tab for $13.5 billion as part of a three-way deal.
Global Payments had also agreed to sell its medical software business AdvancedMD to investment firm Francisco Partners for $1.13 billion last year.
'This (latest) transaction further sharpens our strategic focus and allows us to amplify investment in the markets and solutions where we are most differentiated,' said Global Payments CEO Cameron Bready.
The company intends to use the proceeds from the divestiture of the payroll business to return capital to shareholders.
Founded in 1997, Heartland Payroll caters to more than 50,000 clients, including Marathon Petroleum and Burger King, and will be rebranded after the deal closes — expected in the second half of 2025.
Global Payments will partner with Acrisure to continue providing human capital management and payroll offerings to its merchant customers.
The deal also comes when Acrisure is expanding beyond its core insurance brokerage business.
The Grand Rapids, Michigan-based company had raised $2.1 billion at a $32 billion valuation in a Bain Capital-led funding round earlier this month.
'This significant acquisition accelerates our successful transformation into a fully scaled and diversified fintech platform,' said Acrisure CEO Greg Williams.
Goldfinch Partners advised Acrisure on the transaction.

ISLAMABAD: In a bid to accelerate government's development agenda, Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired three consecutive high-level meetings on Friday to review progress on key social impact initiatives. These projects — focused on skill development, farmer empowerment, and energy efficiency — are slated for launch in the coming weeks and are central to the Prime Minister's vision for inclusive and sustainable growth. The initiatives are being implemented in close coordination with relevant ministries, regulatory bodies, financial institutions, and technical partners, and are designed to generate measurable social impact while aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Developed under the Social Impact Financing Framework created by a Ministry of Finance-led committee constituted by the prime minister, and under the leadership of the finance minister, this instrument will serve as the first in a broader programme to mobilise funding from both domestic and international private and philanthropic capital. All social impact financing will be tied to one or more of the six priority pillars outlined in the Framework and linked to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The finance minister observed that the Pakistan Skills Impact Bond must be positioned as a 'trailblazer' that not only meets immediate development needs but also sets a precedent for attracting a more diverse and deeper investor base. He stressed that this was an opportunity to demonstrate that Pakistan could lead in innovative financing approaches, capable of attracting outcomes funders from around the globe. The second meeting focused on the National Subsistence Farmers Support Scheme (NSFSS), a flagship component of the ECC-approved Access to Finance framework for farmers. Inspired by the prime minister and driven by the Ministry of Finance-led task force under the direction of the finance minister, the NSFSS will unlock digitally enabled, uncollateralised bank loans for smallholder farmers—those owning or cultivating up to 12.5 acres of land, including tenant farmers. By leveraging agronomy-related satellite data through the Land Information and Management System (LIMS), banks will integrate this data into their credit scoring models, enabling the provision of loans for agricultural inputs at reasonable mark-up rates, in contrast to the high costs associated with informal lending from middlemen. The State Bank of Pakistan is collaborating with banks and the Pakistan Banks' Association to operationalise the scheme via a centralised portal developed and managed by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), ensuring an end-to-end digital customer journey. The finance minister noted that this would be 'the first time space technology will be driving agricultural credit decisions on a national scale' and that the initiative represented 'a breakthrough moment' for rural financing in Pakistan. He also pointed out that with 97 percent of farmers owning less than 12.5 acres as per the latest 7th Agriculture Census, the scheme was directly targeted at the segment most in need of affordable credit, and it would have a transformative impact on rural livelihoods, agricultural productivity, and financial inclusion. The third meeting reviewed progress on the Prime Minister's Fan Replacement Programme, an energy efficiency initiative co-developed by the Power Division's National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) in collaboration with banks. ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index-based inflation witnessed an increase of 0.31 percent for the week ended August 13, 2025 compared to 0.05per cent in the previous week. Major increase is observed in the prices of tomatoes 12.62per cent, chicken 4.68per cent, eggs 2.11percent, onions 1.98per cent, garlic 1.60 percent, wheat flour1.44per cent, gur1.04per cent, maash0.52per cent and firewood 0.17 per cent. On the other hand, decrease is observed in the prices of bananas 2.52per cent, potatoes 1.65 per cent, pulse gram0.84per cent, pulse moong0.73per cent, LPG 0.36per cent, masoor0.29per cent, vegetable ghee 1kg 0.10per cent, salt powdered 0.06per cent and rice Irri-6/9 0.04per cent. During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 17 (33.33 per cent)items increased. Whereas, nine (17.65per cent) items decreased and25 (49.02per cent) items remained stable. The year-on-year trend depicts an increase of 2.21per cent.
