Jalen Milroe Hit With Disappointing Depth Chart News After NFL Preseason Debut

Jalen Milroe Hit With Disappointing Depth Chart News After NFL Preseason Debut originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe made his NFL preseason debut over the weekend for the Seattle Seahawks, who selected him with the No. 92 overall pick in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. In Seattle's 23-23 tie against the Las Vegas Raiders, Milroe completed 6-of-10 passes for 60 yards, while also scampering for an additional 38 yards on the ground. Although it was previously reported that Milroe had surpassed Drew Lock as the team's second quarterback behind Sam Darnold on the depth chart, it was the 28-year-old Lock who got the starting nod. Despite going into the game listed as the second quarterback on the depth chart according to ESPN, Milroe found himself behind Lock. A development that appears to be continuing to move forward. ESPN updated its depth chart for the Seahawks following the first preseason game, and Milroe has since slid to the third spot behind Darnold and Lock. What This Means for Jalen Milroe Given Milroe's struggles with accuracy and knowing when to throw the ball 100 miles per hour at Alabama, he was always viewed as a project. While he likely would love to start right away, the Seahawks have no reason to rush him in his development. The team signed Darnold to a three-year deal worth over $100 million this offseason and is hoping he can lead them back into contention, while also being the bridge to the next quarterback. As for his battle with Lock, Milroe will presumably have another chance on Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs to prove story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 13, 2025, where it first appeared.

Brooks Raley's rare rough outing hurts Mets in loss to Mariners

Try it free Brooks Raley has added a strong lefty presence to the Mets' bullpen since returning from the injured list in July, but the veteran reliever had his first rocky outing of the season in Friday's 11-9 loss to the Mariners. After 10 consecutive scoreless appearances following his activation from the IL in the wake of 2024 Tommy John surgery, Raley was charged with three earned runs after allowing one inherited runner from Ryan Helsley to score in the Mariners' five-run seventh inning. Advertisement 'Guys are working hard, there's no doubt about that. All of us want the ball with the game on the line,' Raley said. 'Just not really executing and gotta make better pitches. Everything gets magnified in the kind of a stretch that we're in.' 3 Brooks Raley gets removed in the seventh inning of the Mets' loss on Friday night. Robert Sabo for NY Post Helsley gave up a 6-5 lead to start the inning and was replaced by Raley, who was booed by the home crowd as he left the mound after giving up RBI hits to Dominic Canzone and Donovan Solano and a two-run double to Cole Young for a 10-6 game. Advertisement 'I thought I executed pretty well. Got a ground ball from the first guy that just didn't find a glove, and then made some good pitches, but walked a guy, a ball off the wall in the middle of it,' Raley said. 3 Brooks Raley walks off the field after he was taken out of the game in the seventh inning. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Francisco Lindor at least appears to be through his recent slump with two home runs off Seattle starter Luis Castillo among a 3-for-5 night with four RBIs after also going deep Thursday night against Atlanta. Advertisement 'Executing. It comes down to execution,' said Lindor, who has eight hits in his past 10 games. 'I said the other day … the whole hitting department has been talking to me, and [Carlos] Mendoza, just helping me out and trying to push me to get better and to execute. 3 Francisco Lindor homered twice in Friday night's loss to the Mariners. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post 'That's what it has come down to, just getting the pitches and executing.' Lindor's opposite-field shot to left to open the first marked his seventh leadoff homer of the year, tying the franchise record set by Curtis Granderson in both 2015 and 2016. Advertisement The Mets held a pregame concert by a tribute band to honor the 60th anniversary of The Beatles' 1965 show at Shea Stadium. They also used photoshopped pics of their current players dressed up in 60s-era Beatles garb and haircuts on the scoreboard throughout the game.

Orioles' Brandon Young shrugs off poor last start and nearly makes history vs. Astros

HOUSTON — Baltimore Orioles rookie right-hander Brandon Young had to move past his last start. In dropping to 0-6, Young saw his ERA increase to 6.70 through the first 10 starts of his major league career after allowing six runs over three innings against the Athletics on Aug. 9. 'Honestly, it's easier said than done trying to flush bad outings like that,' Young said. 'But just looking forward to the next (start) and trying to prepare myself. I think that's what most of us look forward to, especially starters.' Young bounced back and nearly made history on Friday night. The 26-year old was four outs from throwing the first perfect game in Orioles history before former teammate Ramon Urias' bouncer to the left of the mound spoiled his bid. Young was able to field the ball with his bare hand, but his off-balanced throw sailed wide of first base. Urias was awarded an infield single. 'I thought I could make the play,' Young said. 'I got there in time. I think I had a little more time to maybe take a step and make a better throw. Obviously, rushed it, yanked it. ... Definitely want it back.' Young recovered to strikeout Taylor Trammell with a 96-mph fastball at the top of the zone to complete the eighth inning. He earned his first win as the Orioles prevailed 7-0 , matched his career high with six strikeouts, and lowered his ERA to 5.68. 'He was throwing all of his pitches for strikes, behind in counts, ahead in counts. Was able to mix locations well. Thought he just executed his plan really well,' Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman said. Before Urias' infield single, only Yainer Diaz's fly ball to right-center field the at-bat before had an exit velocity higher than 100 mph, and only three Astros took Young to a three-ball count. He said he was aware of what was on the line. 'It's really hard not to think about it,' Young said. 'It's kind of just trying to calm yourself down and think about just one pitch at a time. Kind of breathe, calm myself down a little bit, but I could tell what was happening.' A native of Lumberton, Texas, which is less than 100 miles northeast of Houston, Young said his parents and grandfather were among the family members in attendance at Daikin Park, where Young first started attending games when he was five years old. ___ AP MLB:
