And as the storm travels further northbound, the storm is expected to hit just south of the Maritimes provinces – off the coasts of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. But as meteorologist Ross Hull reports, Atlantic Canadians are unlikely to feel the impacts at all.

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Hurricane Erin will bring dangerous rip currents and surf to the East Coast this week, according to the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane Erin reintensified to a Category 4 storm with 130 mph maximum sustained winds early Monday and moved closer to the Southeast Bahamas, according to the NHC in Miami. Around 5 a.m. Monday, Erin was about 105 miles north-northeast of Grand Turk Island and about 915 miles south-southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. NYC forecast and PIX11's Weather Center The storm will create rough waters all along the East Coast of the U.S. for the next several days, according to the NHC. 'Erin is expected to produce life-threatening surf and rip currents along … much of the east coast of the U.S.,' the hurricane center announced at 5 a.m. Monday. New Jersey has the highest rip current risk over the next few days. New York will have moderate rip current risk on Monday, which increases to a high risk on Tuesday. Locals are advised not to get in the water. 'Swimming conditions are unsafe for all levels of swimmers. Stay out of the water,' according to the NHC. Just last week, one person died after getting caught in a rip current in Seaside Heights, officials said. The incident happened after lifeguards had stopped working for the day. Tropical Storm Erin could bring dangerous rip currents to NYC area: NHC

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Tropical Storm Erin could bring dangerous rip and surf currents to the New York City area, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system is expected to move north of the Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico by this weekend. Heavy rainfall, high surf and rip currents and tropical-storm force winds are all possible in those areas, according to the NHC. More Local News Forecasters said the maximum sustained wind of the storm is 50 mph. Tropical Storm Erin will inch closer to the north of the Bahamas by Tuesday. It's unclear how the storm could impact the country, the east coast of the U.S. and Bermuda aside from rip currents. The storm is expected to eventually strengthen into a hurricane, according to the NHC.
