The deal, announced today, highlights the growing collaboration between the two entities, cementing Emirates NBD's role as a key financial partner in Joyalukkas' global growth strategy. Joyalukkas, a household name in the jewellery industry with a vast network of outlets worldwide, is known for its exquisite designs and premium products. Founded in 1987, the retailer has rapidly expanded its footprint, particularly in the GCC region, India, and other high-potential international markets. This new facility from Emirates NBD enables Joyalukkas to navigate challenges associated with working capital and supply chain management while facilitating its growth in a highly competitive market.
The strategic decision to offer this significant financial support underscores Emirates NBD's commitment to supporting leading UAE-based businesses with ambitious expansion plans. The partnership will also contribute to the local economy, enabling job creation and boosting the retail sector. With an extensive portfolio of services tailored for high-growth industries, Emirates NBD is positioning itself as a critical player in the UAE's business ecosystem.
For Joyalukkas, the agreement reflects its robust financial health and operational readiness for a broader international reach. As luxury consumption in markets such as the UK, USA, and Australia continues to rise, the retailer is well-placed to capitalise on this growing demand. Furthermore, the working capital facility will enhance its ability to manage large-scale projects and optimise its inventory across regions.
With an extensive network of over 160 showrooms worldwide, Joyalukkas is keen to capitalise on its established reputation while strengthening its presence in key markets. The financial backing from Emirates NBD offers the flexibility required to support large-scale retail operations and secure further growth.
Analysts see this collaboration as a strong endorsement of Joyalukkas' expansion strategy, particularly its targeted approach towards diversifying into high-potential international markets. As global luxury retail trends shift towards online platforms and omnichannel experiences, Joyalukkas has already begun adapting to these changes, with plans to enhance its digital presence alongside its physical stores.
Emirates NBD, one of the leading banks in the region, has long been known for its strategic partnerships with key players in the retail and manufacturing sectors. By offering tailored financial solutions, the bank has proven to be a crucial enabler of growth for businesses with global aspirations. This latest deal with Joyalukkas adds to the bank's already impressive portfolio of financial support for companies looking to expand their market reach.
As both organisations look ahead, the partnership represents a shared vision for long-term growth, with Joyalukkas planning to increase its retail footprint in the coming years. The bank's backing will facilitate Joyalukkas' ability to expand both in terms of physical retail locations and in the digital domain, where it is likely to see increasing competition.
The deal is also a testament to the UAE's growing position as a global hub for business and finance, with local institutions playing a pivotal role in helping regional businesses scale internationally. Emirates NBD's deep involvement with international brands and retailers reflects the increasingly interconnected nature of global trade and commerce.
While the facility's exact terms remain undisclosed, industry experts suggest that this could be one of many similar deals to follow, as both local banks and international businesses continue to seek mutually beneficial partnerships. The growing demand for high-end jewellery and the increasing prominence of luxury markets globally position this partnership as a key milestone in both organisations' development.

EMSTEEL reports AED 4.3bln in revenue and AED 540mln in EBITDA for H1 2025
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: EMSTEEL (ADX: EMSTEEL) ('the Group'), one of the largest publicly traded steel and building materials manufacturers in the region, today announced its financial results for the first half of 2025. The Group's strong performance demonstrates its resilience amid global steel industry challenges and continued progress in strengthening its market leadership in the UAE. Financial and operational highlights for H1 2025: The Group delivered strong operational performance during the period, increasing sales volumes of finished steel products by 24% year-on-year (YoY) to 1,616 thousand tonnes. This growth was driven by sustained momentum in the UAE's construction sector and the Group's solid market presence. In H1 2025, strong demand and optimised capacity utilisation enabled the full conversion of semi-finished products into finished goods to better serve customers. Additionally, cement and clinker sales volumes rose by 21% YoY to 1,613 thousand tonnes. Despite a 4% YoY decline in average steel prices and a strategic shift towards prioritising sales of finished products and phasing out sales of semi-finished products in H1 2025 - which accounted for 9% of the steel division's revenue in H1 2024 – EMSTEEL reported revenues of AED 4.3 billion for the first half of 2025, marking a 9% increase compared to the same period last year. EBITDA reached AED 540 million, up 6% YoY, with an EBITDA margin of 12.6%, compared to 12.8% in H1 2024. Margin pressure from lower prices was mitigated by improved production costs in Q2 2025, enhanced capacity utilisation, and ongoing process optimisation initiatives. Profit after tax for H1 2025 amounted to AED 188 million, compared to AED 174 million for the same period last year. The Emirates Steel division contributed AED 3.9 billion in revenue, representing a 7% increase compared to H1 2024, and generated AED 449 million in EBITDA. The Emirates Cement division recorded AED 428 million in revenue, reflecting 21% YoY growth, and generated AED 91 million in EBITDA. Within this division, the Pipes & Other segment is reported as Assets Held for Sale, reflecting its ongoing divestment process. This segment contributed AED 90 million in revenue during the period. As of 30 June 2025, the Group maintained a robust net cash position of AED 372 million, compared to AED 337 million as of 31 December 2024. The Group's revenue for Q2 2025 increased by 18% and EBITDA grew by 27% compared to the same period last year. This strong financial performance during Q2 2025 was driven by the same factors outlined for H1 2025, in addition to a low base effect from Q2 2024, when EMSTEEL's operations were partially impacted by adverse weather conditions. Strategic highlights for Q2 2025: EMSTEEL received a provisional 'AA' ESG rating from MSCI, positioning the company at the forefront of environmental and social risk management. The rating highlights EMSTEEL's responsible carbon reduction efforts and exceptional workforce health and safety practices, with performance across majority of the ESG categories ranked above global industry averages. EMSTEEL signed a strategic partnership with Finland's Magsort to produce decarbonised cement, following a successful pilot at its Al Ain plant using 10,000 tonnes of materials that reduce carbon, which have been developed by incorporating steel-slag. This milestone strengthens EMSTEEL's circular economy model and supports its 2030 and 2050 decarbonisation targets across the steel and cement value chains. EMSTEEL launched its first Green Finance Framework, enabling the issuance of green bonds, and loans to fund low-carbon steel and cement projects. Aligned with global standards, the initiative reinforces EMSTEEL's sustainability strategy and supports its long-term net-zero ambitions. Eng. Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, Group Chief Executive Officer of EMSTEEL, said: 'Our strong H1 2025 performance underscores the resilience and adaptability of EMSTEEL in an evolving global market. The 9% growth in revenue and continued EBITDA strength reflect our strategic focus on value-added products, operational efficiency, and domestic market leadership. We are proud of our team's ability to convert industry headwinds into opportunities for growth and innovation.' He added: 'As we advance our decarbonisation journey, the launch of our Green Finance Framework and our strategic partnership with Magsort mark important milestones in building a more sustainable, circular steel and cement ecosystem. With a solid financial foundation, strong ESG credentials, and a clear long-term vision, EMSTEEL remains well-positioned to deliver sustainable value to all stakeholders.' About EMSTEEL EMSTEEL is a public joint stock company (ADX: EMSTEEL) and the UAE's largest steel and building materials manufacturer. The Group leverages cutting-edge technologies to supply both the local market and over 70 international markets with high-quality finished products, creating a one-stop shop for the manufacturing and construction sectors. EMSTEEL is committed to contributing to the UAE's industrial strategy 'Operation 300 billion' by delivering market-leading products to support local industries, creating job opportunities for UAE Nationals, and enhancing its sustainable practices. The agreement brings together ENEC's global nuclear leadership and Samsung C&T's deep engineering and infrastructure expertise to support the deployment of clean, dispatchable electricity worldwide. The MoU sets the stage for collaboration across several key areas, said ENEC in a statement. These include potential investment in conventional nuclear projects such as new builds, restarts and brownfield Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) activity in the US; future deployment of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies in the UAE, US, and internationally and evaluation of opportunities in nuclear-powered hydrogen production in South Korea and other markets. Also, it will pave the way for the investment in US-based nuclear service and equipment companies; and the joint assessment of the development and financing of a nuclear power plant in Romania, it added. On the strategic collabortation, Managing Director and CEO Mohamed Al Hammadi said: 'Nuclear energy has a pivotal role in delivering clean electricity at scale to meet rapidly growing global demand." ENEC, he stated, has demonstrated that with the right strategy and partnerships, nuclear projects can be delivered safely on time, and to the highest national and international standards. "Through this MoU with Samsung C&T, we are expanding our global collaboration efforts to enable new nuclear deployment, investment, and innovation. It's time to make reporting cyber crimes easier
When it comes to cyber attacks and online fraud, it seems that big banks, major companies and tech giants can often be as vulnerable as the individual customers and investors they serve. On Sunday, Germany-based insurer Allianz Life became the latest victim of the digital underworld, suffering a security breach that compromised the data of most of its 1.4 million customers in North America. This was not an isolated incident. Earlier this month, computer security experts said hackers had exploited a vulnerability in Microsoft's SharePoint collaboration software that potentially compromised private and public computer networks in the US. And it is not just private businesses that are at risk. In January, the International Civil Aviation Organisation – a UN agency – confirmed that it had suffered a data breach of its recruitment application records, something that affected almost 12,000 people. The Middle East is not immune to this growing threat. Research from cyber-security company Kaspersky has found that the number of users in the region hit by mobile financial threats jumped 146 per cent in 2024 from the previous year. In a region where interest in digital assets and cryptocurrencies is flourishing, this is a cause for concern. There is something of a cyber security arms race taking place between private and public institutions on one hand and criminal groups on the other, with each using rapidly evolving technology – especially AI – to either defend or compromise sensitive networks and databases. Banks, businesses and investment platforms have a duty of care to make sure their customer's assets are safe; they also have the resources to protect themselves. However, in a great many cases, online fraud is not some darkly impressive feat of digital know-how – it more about tricking people and companies into giving up valuable information. Cyber security and online safety are not new concepts, and most people are well-aware of the need to check emails, vary passwords and use common sense. Many companies spend millions on cyber security measures. But we live in a fast-paced world of distraction and as attacks grow more sophisticated, even the most astute can be caught out. Earlier this month, one Dubai resident told The National how he had lost more than Dh700,000 ($190,605) after being invited to join an online investment platform for gold mining. What makes this story truly unusual is the victim's willingness to speak out. We live in a fast-paced world of distraction and as attacks grow more sophisticated, even the most astute can be caught out The reality is that many cyber crimes go unreported. Individual victims may feel embarrassed or guilty about being tricked and giving away personal data. Businesses may fear reputational damage. There may also be a perception that given that sheer number of cyber crimes – big and small – there is little point in reporting them. Given this, it is important to dispel the embarrassment around being scammed and to improve reporting and blocking mechanisms thereby helping companies and individuals to quickly and effectively report online crimes. This is not a problem that will go away or be solved in one fell swoop. But removing from cyber crimes the secrecy upon which digital criminals thrive and empowering people to flag up where security measures have fallen short would be valuable steps forward.
