Des Moines officers make arrest after hearing gunfire while responding to crash
DES MOINES, Iowa — Officers responding to a hit-and-run crash Wednesday afternoon switched gears quickly after hearing gunfire nearby and were able to make an arrest.
Two officers were investigating the crash at E. 26th Street and E. Grand Avenue around 2:52 p.m. when they heard the gunfire. It came in two separate bursts and shortly after a vehicle sped past the officers, said Sgt. Paul Parizek, spokesperson for the Des Moines Police Department.
4 charged for allegedly kidnapping, robbing Iowa man
A criminal complaint filed in the case said the vehicle, a red Dodge Dakota truck, sped southbound on E. 26th Street. Officers followed and made a high-risk traffic stop. Three occupants were detained and officers located a 9 mm Glock 19 pistol, THC vapes, and an open container of Captain Morgan liquor in the truck. A 9 mm bullet was also found in the vehicle.
Spent shell casings were discovered in the alley to the northwest of E. 26th Street and E. Grand Avenue.
The criminal complaint said one of the occupants of the vehicle, in a post-Miranda interview, told police 21-year-old Corbin Jones, of Des Moines, fired the gun out of the driver window.
Jones is now charged with discharging firearms, persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Polk County Jail.
Sgt. Parizek said no property damage was discovered and police haven't identified any possible targeted victims.

What they're saying After the jurors were fully assembled at the Milwaukee County Courthouse, the verdict was reached within an hour. The jury of nine women and three men found Anderson guilty of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse and arson of property other than a building. "We had a big decision to make today, and there was a lot of momentum leading up to this." Because it was such a high-profile case, the juror said she was not comfortable going on camera. "The decision was easy, especially after that mic drop yesterday seeing those pictures," she said in reference to key evidence presented on Thursday. That evidence included graphic photos, which the state said showed Robinson partially undressed and face down on what looked like Anderson's couch. "That's what I went home thinking about last night. He grabbed her right breast, that right breast has not been recovered, he was taking pictures to look back later at it," the juror said. Racine County motorcycle crash, 1 dead
