In a major boost to India's digital and creative economy sector, the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) will open admissions for its first batch starting this August.
The first batch of 300 students will begin classes in September on National Film Development Corporation's premises on Mumbai's Pedder Road.
What will students learn?
The institute will offer industry-driven courses in the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sector.
The institute, which was announced by Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, at World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in May 2025, is backed by prestigious global partnerships and industry leaders, a Ministry of Information and Broadcasting release said.
The inaugural academic offering includes six specialised courses in gaming, four courses in Post Production and eight courses in Animation, Comics and XR.
Collaboration with foreign universities, global companies
IICT recently signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of York, United Kingdom, paving the way for collaborative research, faculty exchange and global certification pathways.
Leading global companies such as Google, YouTube, Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA and JioStar have committed to long-term collaborations with IICT.
Their support encompasses curriculum development, scholarships, internships, startup incubation and placement opportunities.
IICT, Chief Executive Officer, Dr Vishwas Deoskar stated that the vision is to make India a global powerhouse in the AVGC-XR sector by nurturing world-class talent.
The courses are designed to meet global standards while being rooted in India's dynamic creative potential. The detailed curriculum is expected to be announced later this month.
With the global AVGC-XR industry projected to grow exponentially, IICT's comprehensive course offerings aim to build a future-ready talent pool that will contribute significantly to India's creative economy and position the country as a leader in immersive and digital content technologies, the release said.

Jaya Bhattacharya Recalls Rs 1000 Raise In 7 Years On Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Set: ‘Hit My Ego'

Last Updated: Jaya Bhattacharya revealed she was the 'most underpaid' actor on Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, receiving just Rs 1000 raise in seven years. Actor Jaya Bhattacharya, best known for playing Payal Parikh in the iconic Indian soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, revealed she was the 'most underpaid' actor on the show. In a candid chat with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube podcast, Jaya reflected on her experience working on the show for over seven years and opened up about the lack of fair compensation. Jaya shared, 'I was the most underpaid actor. I never got a raise. Only once I asked for a raise, and while everyone got a raise of 2 thousand rupees, I got only 1 thousand. That hit my ego, so I didn't ask for it ever again and hence didn't get a raise for a straight 7 years." When asked if her fellow cast members received better raises over the years, she replied, 'Ohhh yes… woh log toh kahan se kahan paunch gaye (They reached great heights in their careers)." Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi Set For Reboot Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, created by Ekta Kapoor and aired on Star Plus from 2000 to 2008, was a game-changer for Indian television. The series, starring Smriti Irani as Tulsi, defined the 'saas-bahu" genre and became a household favourite across the country. Now, 17 years later, the show is returning with a fresh perspective. The reboot is set to premiere on Star Plus and JioCinema (formerly Hotstar) on July 29. A new promo features Tulsi speaking about the importance of values in a fast-changing world. Roles Played Apart from her role in Kyunki, Jaya Bhattacharya has featured in several TV shows like Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan, Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, and Thapki Pyar Ki. She's also been part of films like Devdas, Lajja, Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi, and The Wishing Tree. First Published: July 28, 2025, 12:14 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Ranbir Kapoor Thinks Wife Alia Bhatt Is Made Of 'Different Stuff': 'Her Ambition To…'

Mahesh Bhatt says daughter Alia Bhatt is a 'self-made girl,' praises her drive, and reveals Ranbir Kapoor finds her ambition 'astounding.' Alia Bhatt may have been launched by Karan Johar in Student of the Year, but her father Mahesh Bhatt says her rise has been entirely her own doing. Speaking on The Himanshu Mehta Show, the veteran filmmaker opened up about how Alia's ambition continues to surprise even those closest to her — including her husband, actor Ranbir Kapoor. 'I didn't launch Alia Bhatt. Karan Johar launched her. I didn't know she had so much thirst for acting in her. She gave the audition herself. I just got to know they loved her work. I was shocked because I hadn't seen any such traits in her even remotely. I'm very happy she's a self-made girl," Mahesh said, reflecting on his daughter's unexpected journey into films. What impresses Mahesh most is Alia's appetite for risk and reinvention. 'Alia has astounded me! What is unique about her is that she has a taste for taking risks and she's taken the detours into diverse narratives." Now a mother to daughter Raha Kapoor, Alia has entered a new chapter in both her personal and professional life. 'I see a new depth in her. With this young girl becoming a mother, there's a coming-of-age of a different kind, a different kind of maturity in her. I'm also looking forward to her new films which would be coming out now," Mahesh added. Up next, Alia is leading Alpha, a spy thriller from the YRF Spy Universe, releasing this Christmas. She'll also reunite onscreen with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War next year. When asked about Ranbir's view of Alia, Mahesh shared a revealing moment. 'He says, 'Alia is made of different stuff.' When I ask him, 'What do you mean?,' he says, 'Her ambition to do more and more and more is unbelievably astounding!' While he's a person who's very laid-back and comforted, and he just wants to do enough. She's a go-getter." Mahesh also weighed in on the ongoing conversation around nepotism, acknowledging that while access does make things easier, it's not the whole story. 'Nepotism is a reality, but it's also not. Just because my child is talented, that doesn't mean I disqualify them," he said. He added, 'But it's definitely easy for them. Because access is success. Talented people don't even get access for years. It's important to understand that the voice that's been raised against nepotism, there's a collective anger behind that. That's why we get to hear about that every other day." First Published: July 28, 2025, 11:53 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
