Marvel actor video edited to spread India-Pakistan misinformation

"Goose Bumps Hats off to this gentleman, now Pakistani must know how ruthless Modiji is," reads an X post published May 13, 2025.
The video in the post, which accumulated more than 2.4 million views, shows a person approaching a bus stop and replacing a poster that reads "Tell Modi" with another that says "I Told Modi."
Indian media reported that, during the April 22 attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir, a survivor said the gunman told her after killing her husband: "I won't kill you. Go and tell Modi" (archived link).
The posts surfaced online after India said it had carried out strikes against "terrorist camps" in Pakistan, which led to four days of fighting before a ceasefire between the nuclear-armed South Asian rivals was announced by US President Donald Trump on May 10 (archived links here and here).
India claimed Pakistan backed the militants behind the Pahalgam attack that killed 26, mainly Hindu men -- a charge Islamabad denies.
The same video circulated with similar claims on Facebook and X, but the clip has been digitally altered from Marvel Studios promotional footage.
A reverse image search using the video's keyframes found an unedited version published May 7 on Instagram (archived link).
The caption reads: "#TheNewAvengers, but still #FilmedForIMAX experience #Thunderbolts* in #IMAX now!"
Further keyword searches found the original video published May 5 on X by Marvel Studios with #TheNewAvengers (archived link).
Originally titled "Thunderbolts*", the latest superhero film from Marvel stars Stan and remained on top of the North American box office in mid-May. The American production company revealed the asterisk in the movie's name referred to the titular ragtag team of antiheroes becoming "The New Avengers" (archived link).
In Marvel's original video, Stan replaces a "Thunderbolts*" poster with one that says: "*The New Avengers" (archived link).
AFP has fact-checked other misinformation about the India-Pakistan conflict here.

Southern Tier resident seeks answers in Chautauqua County cold case

CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVB) — Questions are being raised about the possibility of an accused murderer being responsible a cold case from 1978 that took place in Chautauqua County. There are over 20 unsolved cases in Chautauqua County involving women who have gone missing or were murdered. 'There's a lot of work to be done, a lot of files to be read,' said Chautauqua County Sheriff Jim Quattrone. 'It's slower than we would like it to be, but it is important for us to give the loved ones of these victims — offer them some hope, not giving them false hope, but let them know that they're not forgotten and that we're seeking justice.' Southern Tier resident DJ Abram is making it his mission to figure out what happened in one of those cases that occurred almost 50 years ago. Abram helps run the Facebook page 'Who Killed Beth Ann Patterson Brown?' Brown was murdered in 1978 in Brocton, N.Y., after leaving a popular town bar. Abram said the community deserves answers, not only for this cold case, but for the other cases in the county. 'There's somebody walking around who's responsible for this and it's heartbreaking for the families,' he said. Police have not confirmed to WIVB News 4 if they're looking into whether accused killer Richard Fox has any connection to Brown's case. Abram said Fox did grow up in the area where Brown's murder happened. Fox is accused of murdering two Buffalo women whose bodies were found in 2021 near the Chautauqua County Rails to Trails bike path. He's also a person of interest in a case in Niagara Falls, where police discovered human remains in a basement in the Falls. 'He was around 14, 15 at the time. Being that this happened in the middle of the night, being near a bar, I can't imagine a 14, 15-year-old would be hanging around a bar,' Abram said. 'It was a very brutal murder. Is it possible? It certainly is possible, but it doesn't seem likely in my mind.' Last year, Congressman Nick Langworthy helped secure $100,000 in federal funding to help Chautauqua County crack these cold cases. 'I was honored to secure $100,000 for the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office as part of last year's appropriations process to support their Abducted, Missing, Murdered, and Unidentified Women's Initiative,' Langworthy said. 'This funding is about more than numbers — it's about justice, remembrance, and action. We owe it to the women who have vanished, to those whose lives were stolen, and to their families, to ensure their stories are not forgotten, their cases are fully investigated, and that every effort is made to deliver the answers and accountability they deserve. I salute Sheriff Quattrone for his vision in opening a cold case effort to bring just to these families and victims.' UK trade minister to meet USTR Greer to discuss implementing tariff deal

LONDON (Reuters) -Britain's trade minister Jonathan Reynolds will meet U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Tuesday to discuss the implementation of a trade deal that has been complicated by the announcement of fresh U.S. tariffs on steel. Reynolds will review recently agreed deals with counterparts from the U.S. and EU, Britain's two biggest trading partners, during a three-day trip to Paris and Brussels this week. The deals struck last month are both political pacts rather than formal trade agreements, and the details of their implementation have not been set out. Starmer and U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to reduce tariffs on British imports of cars and steel to the United States, but its delayed implementation means tariffs may go up before they come down. Last week, Trump said that tariffs on imported steel would rise to 50% from 25% from Wednesday. Industry body UK Steel said it understood that British producers would likely be impacted by the change, which would be a "body blow" to the sector. A British government spokesperson said the UK was engaging with the United States on the implications of the announcement ahead of Reynolds' meeting with Greer to discuss implementation timelines of the bilateral agreement in Paris. "We recognise our relationship with G7 allies and EU counterparts must continue to evolve and deliver a better trading environment for our businesses and exporters," Reynolds said in a statement ahead of the trip. Reynolds will also meet Indian Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal to discuss a recently negotiated Free Trade Agreement, which is still having its legal text finalised and is subject to ratification in both countries, which could take months. After meetings with G7 and OECD counterparts in Paris, Reynolds will hold talks with EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic. As part of efforts to reset ties without fundamentally reopening the Brexit deal, Britain and the EU have agreed to conclude talks to remove red tape on its food trade, but details of the plan have yet to be finalised. In advance of that agreement coming into force, Britain on Monday said it would scrap border checks on fruit and vegetables imported from the European Union, that had been due to be effective beginning in July.

Jonathan Joss' Husband Breaks Silence Over Actor's Horrific Cause of Death

Jonathan Joss' Husband Breaks Silence Over Actor's Horrific Cause of Death originally appeared on Parade. King of the Hill star Jonathan Joss' husband has broken his silence following the voice actor's untimely and horrifying death, allegedly at the hands of one of their neighbors. As Parade previously reported, Joss, 59, was shot multiple times, reportedly during an unspecified altercation with a neighbor in south San Antonio. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear at the time what had sparked the altercation, but Tristan Kern de Gonzalestook to his late partner's Facebook account on the afternoon of June 2 to recount the details of the terrible incident that took Joss' life the night prior. According to the post, the pair had returned to their former home in San Antonio, which had previously burned down, to check the mail when they were met with a distressing sight: the skull and harness of one of their dogs, placed in direct view. "This caused both of us severe emotional distress," Kern de Gonzales wrote, noting that it was while they were expressing their grief a man approached, "started yelling violent homophobic slurs," and raised a gun and fired on them. Kern de Gonzales explained that, while living in the neighborhood, the two suffered years' worth of "threats from people in the area who repeatedly told us they would set [our home] on fire" and were "harassed regularly by individuals who made it clear they did not accept our relationship" and were "openly homophobic." He continued, "Jonathan and I had no weapons. We were not threatening anyone. We were grieving," revealing that Joss pushed Kern de Gonzales out of the way when their assailant opened fire and saved his life. "He was murdered by someone who could not stand the sight of two men loving each other." Kern de Gonzales concluded the devastating update by letting friends and fans know, "I was with him when he passed. I told him how much he was loved. To everyone who supported him, his fans, his friends, know that he valued you deeply. He saw you as family. My focus now is on protecting Jonathan's legacy and honoring the life we built together." Earlier on Monday, police confirmed that they'd arrested Sigfredo Alvarez-Cega in connection to Joss' death, charging the man with murder and setting his bail at $200, Joss' Husband Breaks Silence Over Actor's Horrific Cause of Death first appeared on Parade on Jun 2, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 2, 2025, where it first appeared.
