Dravidian University in Kuppam adds Engg wing
The move, which gives further boost to higher education in the State, comes following an initiative by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who represents the Kuppam constituency in the State Assembly.
Though the town of Kuppam already has a private engineering college, this marks the first time Dravidian University will have an engineering college under its own administration.
The University currently offers a variety of programmes in arts, science, technology and management, but lacked a formal engineering stream until now.
In a circular issued on June 27, 2025, the University announced the approval from the Government of Andhra Pradesh to launch the new engineering college. The institution will begin operations from the 2025–26 academic year with two BTech programmes: Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and CSE with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI & ML). Each programme will accommodate 60 students per year.
The University expressed gratitude to the State government, particularly Chief Minister Naidu, for sanctioning the much-awaited college. 'We take pride and pleasure in sharing this historic development with all teaching and non-teaching staff,' the circular stated. 'We thank the State government for supporting the institution's growth and commitment to academic excellence.'
Welcoming the move, MLC and Government Whip in the Legislative Council Dr Kancharla Srikanth described the announcement as a key step in strengthening the educational landscape of the region. 'The students of Kuppam have been waiting for this opportunity for a long time,' he said, thanking CM Chandrababu Naidu and Human Resources Development Minister Nara Lokesh on behalf of the local community.
Leaders of the TDP and residents of Kuppam also hailed the decision, calling it a timely intervention that would bring quality technical education to the doorstep of meritorious students.

The five-judge bench, comprising Justice Surya Kant, Justice Vikram Nath, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice A Chandurkar, heard preliminary objections raised by advocate KK Venugopal, appearing for the Kerala government, and advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Tamil Nadu. The court said it was only sitting in an advisory jurisdiction and not sitting in appeal over the case involving Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK and Governor RN Ravi over withholding consent on Bills passed by the State Assembly. 'We will be expressing just a view of law, not on the decision in the Tamil Nadu case," said CJI Gavai in response to the objections by Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Discussions On Presidential Reference In April, the Supreme Court passed a verdict, saying the President should decide on the bills reserved for her consideration by the Governor within three months from the date on which such reference is received, calling Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi's decision to withhold Bills 'illegal". It also said that state governments can directly approach the Supreme Court if the President withholds assent on a bill sent by a Governor for consideration. Venugopal said the presidential evidence was an attempt to derail the verdict without filing a review. This was supported by Singhvi, who said that Article 143 cannot be used as an intra-court appeal; nor is it a substitute for review or curative powers. Meanwhile, the Centre, in its written submission, has said that imposing fixed timelines on Governors and the President to act on bills passed by a state Assembly would amount to one organ of the government assuming powers not vested in it by the Constitution, and lead to 'constitutional disorder". Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Central government, supported the argument that the Supreme Court can revisit and even modify an earlier judgment while exercising Article 143. 'This is for the first time, the President felt functional disharmony arose and will arise because of no authoritative pronouncement," he said. CPI not qualified to talk on AIADMK-BJP alliance: EPS

The programme envisages the top 10 per cent of society adopting the bottom 20 per cent to guide and mentor them 'out of poverty'. According to the CM, P4 is being launched 'officially' on Tuesday. After the Ugadi day launch on March 30, the 'poverty elimination' programme has been promoted till now, he said. "This is a historic day. A day which will remain in history forever," said Naidu, adding that 'poverty elimination' is not a new concept, as it was the philosophy of TDP founder NT Rama Rao. Appealing to everyone to go ahead with humanity, Naidu gave a call to everyone with the power to give back to society to go ahead and do it, financially or in whichever way possible. Under P4, he said some 'Margadarsis' have come forward to do community works, while some NRIs stepped in to adopt 10 poor families each. Likewise, he said some 'Margadarsis' are adopting entire villages and mandals. He said a survey was undertaken under P4 to map needy families in the southern state, outlining that out of 1.69 crore households across the state, 26 lakh needy families were identified. Going forward, the TDP supremo said the government will evaluate P4 programme to identify the best performing 'Margadarsis' and 'Bangaru Kutumbams'. According to the CM, P4 is a completely voluntary programme without any coercion and added that it is one programme which gives immense satisfaction. On his part, Naidu reminded that he adopted 250 families in Kuppam and promised to personally monitor them. Further, he underscored that any government policy will be favourable to the poor and observed that in all his programmes, he involves the donors and beneficiaries to inspire more people towards P4.
