Tribit Unveils Its New StormBox Mini Plus As An Alternative To Apple's HomePod

Tribit is one of those brands that keeps a low profile and yet produces genuinely capable speakers and earbuds with an accessible price. The latest launch from the brand is the StormBox Mini Plus, a compact Bluetooth speaker made for music lovers on the move. Designed to deliver audio in a rugged and travel-sized format, the StormBox Mini Plus bears a passing resemblance to Apple's HomePod Bluetooth speaker. The StormBox Mini Plus provides portability and personalisation in a compact package that's available in black, blue and green. Compact and Rugged Measuring just 119 x 91 x 91mm and weighing less than 550g, the StormBox Mini Plus is small enough to pop rucksack and take on a long day's hike. The speaker is customizable using the Tribit smartphone app, which is available for iOS and Android devices. Users can fine-tune the sound of the speaker to suit their personal preference with five audio presets or manual EQ adjustments. As well as tailoring the sound of the speaker, two StormBox Mini Plus speakers can be linked wirelessly to produce a bigger sound with an immersive stereo soundstage. Described as having 360-degree surround sound, the Tribit Mini Plus can indeed create an immersive 360° stereo sound thanks to its left-right acoustic design. Two Powerful Full-Range Drivers Inside the speaker are two powerful 48mm full-range drivers and a passive radiator with a combined frequency response ranging from 80Hz to 20KHz. The total power output is 12W and features built-in 2+1 Band Dynamic Range Control, which enhances the clarity of the music and delivers dynamic 2.0 stereo sound. It won't fill a large room with sound, but the power of the 12W output sounds surprisingly effective. Built-in multicolour lights on the StormBox Mini Plus can pulse and fade in rhythm with the music being played. Whether it's being used at a picnic, a festival or just for hanging out at the beach, the lights add a dynamic effect that can go well with the music. If that's not your thing, you can turn the lightshow off. The rechargeable battery inside the StormBox Mini Plus can play continuously for up to 12 hours at 50% volume and with those lights turned off. To completely recharge the battery takes around 2.5 hours via the speaker's USB Type-C port. When it comes to resilience, the StormBox Mini Plus is both rugged and waterproof, thanks to its IPX7 waterproof rating. This means the speaker can be immersed in up to a meter of water for half an hour before it starts to object. This makes it suitable for pool parties, hiking and a certain amount of horseplay. SBC and AAC Support Tribit has used the latest Bluetooth 5.4 technology in the StormBox Mini Plus to ensure a stable wireless range of up to 30 metres. There is support for AAC and SBC codecs, but none of your highfalutin aptX Adaptive or LDAC. AAC delivers a clearer and more detailed sound than the basic SBC and is supported by iOS and Android devices. The StormBox Mini Plus has a 3.5mm AUX input, enabling the connection of analog sound sources like an old Sony Walkman or something like a transistor radio with a headphone jack. A built-in microphone turns the StormBox Mini Plus into a hands-free speaker phone and there is also compatibility with voice assistants, making it a useful device for home offices or vacations. Finally, the Tribit StormBox Mini Plus is designed to go almost anywhere and its compact size means it can fit into a work bag or even an overcoat pocket. The speaker's tough exterior is resistant to knocks and drops and the control panel on its exterior makes it easy to control volume, playback and the lightshow with just a few taps. The Tribit StormBox Mini Plus Bluetooth speaker is shipping now and is available from Amazon priced at $39.99 / £29.99 / €32.99.

Luke Macfarlane on Developing a Queer Hallmark Christmas Movie and Playing a Straight Character in ‘Platonic': ‘I'm Very Versatile'

For many years, Luke Macfarlane was one of only a handful of gay actors who never shied away from playing queer roles. His coming out during a newspaper interview in 2008 coincided with him playing Matthew Rhys' husband on the ABC family drama 'Brothers & Sisters.' But in his latest work, Apple TV+'s 'Platonic,' Macfarlane plays a straight character, Rose Byrne's husband. 'The fact is somebody said, 'That guy who just did this movie 'Bros,' where he gets into a lot of very gay stuff, can play a straight guy,' and that's truly because somebody said somebody in power said, 'I'm going to give you a shot.' I'm so grateful to Nick for that opportunity.' Nick is Nicholas Stoller, the director of 'Bros' and co-creator of 'Platonic.' Currently in its second season, 'Platonic' follows the lives — the ups, the downs, and the very hysterical — of best friends Will (Seth Rogen) and Sylvia (Byrne). I joked with Macfarlane about the possibility of not playing gay again. 'I love playing gay,' he said. 'I'll play gay. I'll play straight. I'll do anything. I am very versatile.' In fact, Macfarlane is not only a regular in Hallmark Channel movies with both gay and straight roles, but he's developing an LGBTQ Christmas movie for the network. 'Hallmark is definitely telling queer stories, so I've been trying to find a queer story that would make sense for them…It's very long development,' he said. Macfarlane says queer Hallmark movies offer a break from the very real-world political attacks on the LGBTQ community. 'I think what's interesting with Hallmark is their brand is so intact and part of their brand has never been to be overtly political, at least all the time that I've worked there,' he said. 'For them, it's just continuing to tell stories that really resonate with people that can still be an escape from the difficulties of our current situation.' He added, 'We all have a queer friend, we all have a queer neighbor, we all have a queer brother or sister….It's actually just part of life.' 'Platonic' Season 2, episode 4 premieres on Apple TV+ on Aug. 20. 6 transitional shoe trends to wear with every jean shape to keep your denim feeling fresh from now into autumn

As summer draws to a close and autumn is on the horizon, one silver lining worth celebrating is the fact we'll soon be back to wearing-denim-on-the-daily weather. Currently, that looks like all of the past season's biggest sandal trends worn with jeans. But, as the clouds roll in, the breeze picks up and the mercury starts to drop, we'll be switching out open-toe footwear for more practical options. Luckily, there's no shortage of stylish shoes to choose from, as verified by the autumn winter 2025 runways held waaay back in February. We might not have thought about them in months, but the time has finally come when they are more relevant than ever. And frankly, we could not be more ready. If you are too – or maybe you're just yet to book in for a fresh pedicure – you can't go wrong with one of the below jeans and closed-toe shoes outfit combos that effortlessly nail transseasonal dressing and offer a fresh take on denim for the new szn. Don't just take our word for it, check them out for yourself... Victoria Beckham famously declared in her 2006 forgotten fashion manual (titled That Extra Half an Inch and now only available to buy on eBay) that wearing skinny jeans with ballet flats would leave you looking like your legs were golf clubs. Either way, it's certainly a dated look, and we'd recommend pairing your pumps with a more modern high-waisted, straight-cut silhouette for laid-back, cool girl style. We hate to take sides, but when it comes down to the generational sock culture war, we're firmly in the high socks camp. Especially when worn with loafers. Opt for cuffed jeans (or, ya know, just turn up the hems on your favourite pair) to ensure your style statement takes centre stage. Slingback kitten heels have prim and proper connotations, so we love the idea of pairing them with distressed denim. Whether you opt for subtle clashing with frayed hems or go full grunge with rips and holes, it's a guaranteed sartorial slay. Skinny jeans have been 'out' for a while now, but the trend of tucked-in trews provides the perfect opportunity for you to dig yours out from the back of your wardrobe. If you swore never to return to the skin-tight silhouette, you can still get in on this look with any slim or narrow leg jean. Or, just allow for bunching at the tops of your knee-high boots. Animal print isn't going anywhere this autumn! After cow print burst onto the scene in spring, it's set to return as a stylish contender alongside leopard spots, zebra stripes and snake print. Rather than making this the focal point of your outfit, rely on the voluminous hems of your wide-leg jeans to offer just a peek of pattern. We love a preppy Mary Jane – especially in autumn. If you struggle to keep ballet flats on your feet, the signature strap on this shoe is a game-changer and deserves to be recognised as so with a pair of ankle-grazing jeans to show off their sleek silhouette.
