Bank exec charged with seeking girls for sex gets bail
Christopher James McCann, 50, appeared in Brisbane Arrest Court on Monday to apply for bail after being charged with one count of using the internet to procure children aged under 16.
The Sydney-based McCann was extradited to Queensland on Thursday night after being arrested by NSW Police.
McCann described himself online as a corporate finance executive with more than 20 years of experience.
Magistrate Louise Shephard told McCann he was accused of a 'terribly serious offence' by allegedly engaging Brisbane sex worker Shauntelle Elizabeth Went, 18, to supply the services of two girls aged 14 or 15.
'You travelled interstate frequently. You formed some kind of connection with [Went]. On May 14 police intercepted messages between you and she.
'The allegation is you ... queried her about whether she had younger friends that she worked with.'
McCann stood in the dock looking either down or straight ahead during his appearance.
Shephard said McCann was accused of making an arrangement and agreeing on price to use Went's services alongside two underage girls.

Man takes own life outside Queensland childcare centre
A community is reeling after a man took his own life outside a Queensland childcare centre, where six children were awaiting pickup by their parents. Emergency services were called to a disturbance at Habitat Early Learning centre in Peregian Springs on the Sunshine Coast around 6pm on Monday. On arrival, police said they had located a 28-year-old man who had forced entry to the premises, was self-harming, and sustained serious injuries as a result. 'Officers attempted to negotiate with the man before taking him into custody,' a police spokesman said. 'The man became unresponsive soon after. 'Attending police rendered first aid before other emergency services arrived, however he was declared dead a short time later.' The man's death is currently being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, and could be looked into by the Crime and Corruption Commission. A spokesman for the childcare centre told the Courier Mail six children were inside the premises at the time, alongside five staff. 'The offender was unable to gain immediate access to the centre due to security measures including fingerprint scanners, and this allowed our staff the time to follow their safety protocols and hide everyone in a secure location,' they said. 'The offender was not known to any staff or our families. 'None of the children witnessed the offender after his initial attempts to enter the building.' Queensland Education minister John Paul Langbroek, when asked about the event at an unrelated press conference shortly after, declared it was 'a horrendous issue that I've only just been advised of'. 'I'm sure that for many of those students and teachers, it's a particularly traumatic experience they've gone through,' he said. 'I think those early childhood teachers and educators are heroes, and any counselling service that is needed will be provided, but the safety of our children is paramount.' Man dead after another Sydney shooting, Homicide Squad sets up crime scene
A man is dead after being shot in Sydney's west on Tuesday night. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Regiment Grove, Winston Hills, about 7pm after reports of gunshots. Witnesses have told police a man was shot while getting into his car. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics but died after being transported to hospital. The man has not yet been formally identified by detectives and the Homicide Squad has set up a crime scene in the area. It is the second fatal shooting to rock Sydney in less than a week after 39-year-old Gilbert Shino was gunned down in Forest Lodge on Sunday night.
