YSRCP, CPM oppose Andhra government's power deal with Axis Energy

VIJAYAWADA: The YSRCP on Monday accused the coalition government of orchestrating a massive scam through its agreement with Axis Energy Venture Infra to purchase power at Rs 4.60 per unit.
YSRCP spokesperson Gadikota Srikanth Reddy and former minister Gudivada Amarnath, in separate press conferences, claimed the deal imposes an undue financial burden on the public while benefiting a select few through alleged kickbacks.
They contrasted the new deal with the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government's power procurement from SECI at Rs 2.49 per unit, stating the Rs 2.11 difference translates to an Rs 11,000 crore loss over time.
The 25-year fixed-rate agreement, immune to market fluctuations, and alleged interference with the Regulatory Commission under Section 108, further reflect deep-rooted corruption, they said.
YSRCP also noted that power sector dues ballooned from Rs 29,000 crore in 2014 to Rs 86,300 crore by 2019 under the TDP regime. In contrast, they said, the previous government slowed the growth to 7.2% CAGR despite the pandemic.
They criticised the current government's decision, saying it contradicts Chief Minister Naidu's promise to lower power prices.
Echoing the same, the CPM State unit has called for the cancellation of a power purchase agreement with Axis Energy Ventures, approved by APERC.
They argue that the deal will burden citizens with Rs 15,000 crore over the next 25 years. The CPI(M) has urged public protests to demand the scrapping of the contract.

Man With Rs 20 Lakh Salary Can't Afford A Home In Gurugram, Viral Post Sparks Discussion

Owning a home remains a major aspiration for many, driven by the desire for stability and potential income. However, in recent years, surging property prices have pushed homeownership out of reach for many in major metro cities. Amid this, a social media post about a man earning Rs 20 lakh a year and still unable to afford a home in Gurugram has triggered a discussion about soaring real estate prices in Indian cities. Taking to X, a tech professional named Akhilesh claimed that if his friend, who is earning Rs 1.2 lakh a month, buys a house with proper amenities, he would end up living paycheck to paycheck. "Was having a discussion with a friend in Gurgaon. His CTC is 20 lakh. His in-hand is around 1.2 lakh per month after taxes, epf, and deductions. He doesn't splurge. No car. No kids. just a waifu," the techie wrote on X. "Every project he visits starts at 2.5 crore. The brochures talk about infinity pools, Zen gardens, Italian marble, biometric lifts. If he buys this, he has to live paycheck to paycheck. No buffer. No vacations. No emergencies," he added. was having a discussion with a friend in gurgaon. his ctc is 20 lakh. his in-hand is around 1.2 lakh per month after taxes, epf, and deductions. he doesn't splurge. no car. no kids. just a waifu. every project he visits starts at 2.5 crore. the brochures talk about infinity… — akhilesh (@akhileshutup) June 5, 2025 Further, the techie claimed that his friend probably earns more than 95% of India, but he still cannot afford a home in his own city. "The market is not broken. It's working exactly as designed - for someone else," he concluded. The post has gone viral on social media, sparking a discussion of soaring prices in Indian cities. "It's wild how even a high salary feels inadequate in certain cities. Many people are in the same boat, juggling expenses while trying to save. It makes you question what success means nowadays," wrote one user. "It is same story everywhere. In Hyd a Triplex villa outside ORR quotes min 2.5CR. There are villas bein sold for 9 CR, not sure what on earth these villas have. If one wants an apartment prices range from 1.5 to 3CR basis location. Buying a home in not a common man's dream any more. Real estate market is completely in the hands of black money hoarders," commented another. "Gurgaon has brand new flats strating from as low as 65 lacs for 2BHK. Humans are aspiring high with shallow pockets,' expressed a third user. "With this money he can go to his ancestral home(most probably in a village), he can built a lutyen bungalow there with this much money. Clean air, clean water, Grandeur home, social life,Stick with the cultural roots, better health, there are countless benefits," suggested another. "Not just your friend, even ppl whose CTC is 50lakh couldn't afford to buy apartments, forget about villas. For a low per capita country like India the real estate prices are in sky. Yet every project is sold out in pre-launch. Who & how they are buying is a mystery," commented one user.

"I have been blessed by PM Modi": Srinagar-Katra Vande Bharat passenger

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 7 (ANI): Shikha Rastogi, a passenger aboard the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, expressed her joy and gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu, recalling her past interactions with the Prime Minister and praising the transformative infrastructure developments in India. Speaking to ANI on the train, Rastogi said, 'I have been blessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ma'am. I have been allotted a shop in the Kashi Vishwanath corridor. I am happy to be able to travel in this train and I have come to Kashmir especially to travel in this train.' She added that witnessing the inauguration ceremony live was an emotional moment for her. 'I witnessed the inaugural ceremony live yesterday, and it felt surreal. PM Modi has done so much work for the country and even this train is for the country's people. Travel to and from Kashmir has become easy. The experience of travelling on the world's highest bridge was amazing,' she told ANI. Recalling her past meetings with the Prime Minister, Rastogi said, 'I have met PM Modi 2-3 times. This picture is from the time when the Kashi Vishwanath corridor was being inaugurated. He touched my feet and said that the government is with me and motivated me to aim higher.' Visuals from inside Kashmir's first Vande Bharat Express showed scenic views as the train crossed the Anji Khad Bridge, which Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated on Thursday. The train's launch marked a major milestone in improving connectivity to the Union Territory, offering passengers faster and more comfortable travel between Katra and Srinagar. Earlier on Saturday, the inaugural ride of the Vande Bharat Express between Srinagar and Katra drew praise from passengers, many of whom described the new service as offering 'unmatched convenience,' making travel 'much easier, possible, and comfortable,' while hailing it as a 'great move by the government' to connect Kashmir with the rest of India. Tourists and locals hailed the launch as a historic moment, saying it would cut down travel time, boost tourism, and make Kashmir more accessible. Speaking to ANI, Ashok Kumar Khajanchi, a tourist from Bikaner in Rajasthan, shared his experience, 'We came from Bikaner to Mumbai and then to Srinagar. We've visited places like Gulmarg and Sonamarg. Many had tried to scare us into cancelling our trip, but we were determined. When we heard Vande Bharat was running, we cancelled our taxi to Jammu Tawi, even though we lost Rs 6,000. We booked Vande Bharat tickets at 7 PM and reached Srinagar by 8 PM. With my health problems, the train made travel much easier.' Khajanchi, who is recovering from a foot fracture, added, 'The convenience offered by Vande Bharat is unmatched. I had two fractures, so we had to cancel our earlier car and train bookings. But this train made the journey possible and comfortable.' On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Katra Railway Station, officially connecting the Jammu division with Kashmir via rail. This marks a major milestone in strengthening railway infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. During his visit, PM Modi also inaugurated the world's highest railway arch bridge over Chenab River. Speaking on the occasion, he said the development projects will further boost Jammu and Kashmir's growth journey. The train passes through two engineering marvels: the Anji Khad Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge, and the Chenab Bridge, the highest railway bridge in the world. (ANI)
