‘Coastal States Meet 2025': Fisheries projects worth Rs 255 crore to be unveiled
Mumbai: The government is slated to organise a 'Coastal States Meet 2025' here on Monday where fisheries projects worth Rs 255 crore will be unveiled to further strengthen the marine fisheries sector.
The Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, is organising the event under the chairmanship of Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, an official statement said on Saturday.
Singh will inaugurate and lay the foundation for key projects for seven coastal states and union territories (UTs) with a total outlay of Rs 255.30 crore under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), underscoring the commitment of the government for advancing the fisheries sector in the coastal states and UTs.
The minister will also launch a set of key initiatives aimed at strengthening marine fisheries and promoting sustainable practices including Marine Fisheries Census Operations, Turtle Excluder Device (TED) project and release of Standard Operating procedure for Vessel Communication and Support System.
The fisheries sector in India plays an important role in supporting rural livelihoods and contributing to the national economy.
With a vast coastline and an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of 2.02 million square kilometres, India boasts of rich marine resources. The marine fisheries sector in India harbours significant potential, estimated at 5.31 million tonnes.
Coastal states and Union Territories, which include around 3,477 coastal fishing villages, produce 72 per cent of the country's total fish production and account for 76 per cent of India's total seafood exports.
During the event, certificates will also be distributed to outstanding Cooperatives, FFPOs, fisheries startups, and climate-resilient coastal fishing villages.
As part of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PMMKSSY), beneficiaries will also receive Aqua Insurance certificates and Kisan Credit Cards (KCC).
Notably, the government has introduced Aqua Insurance for the first time, offering dedicated financial protection to aquafarmers.
This landmark initiative ensures targeted insurance coverage, digital accessibility, and focused support for marginalized communities in the fisheries sector.
The 'Coastal States Meet 2025' will also feature key technical sessions, which aim to offer practical policy insights and technical guidance to strengthen marine fisheries, ensure safety, promote sustainable mariculture, and improve export capabilities.
In addition, the event will host an exhibition showcasing innovative technologies, products, and initiatives in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, fostering knowledge exchange and highlighting best practices.

This will include road improvement, neat entry points, as well as the development of schools and hospitals. According to senior officials in the Public Works Department (PWD), a meeting in this regard was held under the Chief Secretary, where various issues related to the Shalimar Bagh constituency in Northwest Delhi were discussed. Officials from the PWD, Traffic Police, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board, Municipal Corporation of Delhi and others concerned were present. To address traffic congestion in Shalimar Bagh, the department has proposed several measures. Road widening: The road coming from Pitampura and Ring Road to Singlapur narrows down from 80 feet to 20-40 feet for a distance of about 50 metres. To address this, officials said, 'The DDA was asked to hand over a piece of land (412 sqm) in its park to widen Singlapur road… the matter was also taken up with the Haryana government to hand over a parcel of land adjoining DDA park (503 sqm) in AP-Block to the PWD.' 'In lieu of transferring the AP-Block park land to widen the road, an equal portion of vacant land that belongs to the DDA in BI-Block of Shalimar Bagh can be used as a green space… DDA has been directed to expedite the case,' read a document. Upgrading signboards, entry points: The PWD has been asked to upgrade signboards on major roads of 80 feet and 60 right-of-way (RoW) in Shalimar Bagh and Pitampura. Entry points to Shalimar Bagh will also get an upgrade in the form of designer lamps, lights, and green plantation, said officials. 'As it is a policy matter, a standard drawing for the improvement of entry points to Shalimar Bagh is being prepared by a PWD architect. It will then be sent for approval to the competent authority… other roads that are damaged — Ram Bagh, Pitampura, and Haiderpur — will be repaired and beautified,' officials said. Traffic solutions for other roads: The Traffic Police and PWD have been directed to provide solutions to heavy traffic at the Madhuban Chowk intersection. A skywalk has been proposed from the nearby Metro station to Rohini court at this intersection to ease pedestrian footfall, said officials. A flyover or underpass at Peeragarhi intersection, a pain point on Rohtak road, is being planned, at an estimated cost of Rs 17 crore. There is also a proposal to widen the overbridge along the Ring Road going towards Mangolpuri; build a flyover at Laxmi Narayan Mandir Road; construct U-turns for right-turning traffic at Chaudhary Balbir Singh Marg and improve pedestrian access with a proposed foot overbridge (FoB). Apart from this, the PWD is planning to construct a flyover or underpass at Ring Road near Chandgi Ram Akhara intersection, Shadipur Depot, Deshbandhu Gupta Road opposite Paharganj up to Ajmeri Gate, Majnu ka Tila, and ITO intersection. All these stretches provide direct connectivity to Shalimar Bagh. The PWD has floated tenders to carry out a feasibility study.

‘RaGa and Kharge to speak with protesting HAU students over phone'

Waste-to-wonder: Noida Jungle Trail with tigers & camels set to open in July
Noida: A slice of the wild, crafted from steel and imagination, Noida's Jungle Trail is almost ready to welcome visitors next month. Part of the waste-to-wonder park project, the trail is set for a trial run starting June 25, with an official opening expected in early July. While final touches are underway, officials say installation of the main gate, a cafeteria, and paintwork remain. Deputy director (horticulture) of Noida Authority, Anand Mohan Singh, said UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath will also be invited for the park's inauguration. The 20-acre park is strategically placed to attract visitors from Noida, Delhi, Greater Noida and Faridabad. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore, the park is being developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model by the Noida Authority in collaboration with a private company called Z-Tech. The company has developed similar parks in Lucknow, including UP Darshan Park and Happiness Park. Divided into four themed zones, the park offers an immersive wildlife experience. The Jungle Trail has over 700 life-sized animal sculptures from six continents, including elephants, tigers, camels, and exotic birds.
