Ford Introduces Heritage Fleet Showcasing 120 Years of Automotive Innovation
Ford Motor Co. revealed its new U.S. Heritage Fleet on Wednesday, showcasing nearly 175 historically significant vehicles collected to preserve the automaker's 120-year legacy while guiding the creation of future models.
This extensive collection includes vehicles spanning multiple decades, highlighting technological breakthroughs, iconic designs, and key milestones throughout Ford's history. The U.S. fleet is part of a global heritage project that totals nearly 500 vehicles, including contributions from Ford's subsidiaries in Germany and England.
Ted Ryan, Ford's archives and heritage brand manager, said that the effort to consolidate Ford's historical fleet began just over a year ago. Until recently, while various departments within Ford, such as Product Development and Ford Performance, kept individual vehicles, there had been no organized attempt to systematically preserve and showcase these cars.
'This fleet represents not only Ford's storied past, but is meant to inspire our future,' Ryan said. Vehicles selected were chosen for their importance in Ford's narrative and their ability to contribute to future innovation.
Key highlights from the Heritage Fleet include the historic 10-millionth Mustang, rare prototypes like a 10-cylinder Mustang concept, one of the earliest four-door Broncos, and three generations of Cobra R Mustangs. It also houses significant concept vehicles such as the Lincoln Navigator prototype and the trio of 2004 Ford GTs that reintroduced Ford's legendary performance lineage to a new generation.
Ryan noted that the Heritage Fleet serves as a resource for Ford's design and engineering teams. Designers regularly reference these classic models to incorporate historical elements into new vehicles. The recent Bronco revival heavily relied on archived sketches and documents, but now, designers can physically access original vehicles for deeper insights.
Several historic vehicles, including the original 1914 Model T, a rare 1938 V8-powered ambulance, and the Mustang famously displayed atop the Empire State Building in 2015, will soon be on public display at Ford's new Product Development Center and its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
Ford plans to make the Heritage Fleet accessible at events nationwide, ensuring these automotive treasures help drive innovation and inspire enthusiasts for generations to come.

Watch: Auto worker's lost wallet found under hood 11 years later
Aug. 15 (UPI) -- A mechanic working on a 2015 Ford Edge brought into his Minnesota shop made a startling discovery under the hood: a wallet that had been lost by a Michigan Ford plant worker 11 years earlier. Richard Guilford, who is now retired, said he remembers the day he lost his wallet while working on vehicles that had been shipped to the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne after coming off the assembly line in Chicago with electrical issues. "I never wore sweatpants to work, but I did that day," he told KARE-TV. "And I had my wallet in my shirt pocket." Guilford and his team searched for the missing wallet, but there were 2,000 vehicles on the floor and they eventually had to give up. He said the wallet contained his driver's license, his Ford Motor Co. ID, $15 in cash and $250 worth of Cabela's sporting goods gift cards he had intended to use to buy Christmas presents for his kids. The wallet's final fate remained a mystery for 11 years, until Chad Volk, owner of LC Car Care in Crystal Lake, Minn., was working on a 2015 Ford Edge brought in to have its cooling fans replaced. Volk said he was attempting to put the air box back into place under the hood, but it wouldn't fit right. He removed it again and found Guilford's leather wallet sitting on top of the transmission. "I was surprised. You find stuff all the time, usually tools," Volk told the Detroit Free Press. "I looked through it and I see a Ford Motor Co. badge. I thought, 'I'm going to try finding this guy to see if I can get it back to him.'" Volk was quickly able to find and contact Guilford on Facebook, and the wallet was in the mail the next day. Volk said the Edge had about 150,000 miles on it when it came to his shop. "It's well-traveled currency," Guilford joked of the $15 cash, which was still safe inside the wallet, along with the rest of its contents. Guilford said Cabela's has agreed to issue him new gift cards, so he can keep his preserved wallet intact as a keepsake. "Some things in it were hot and crisp, think of how hot that car got," Guilford said. "It doesn't look like it ever got wet, just hot. That little corner kept [the wallet] completely dry and completely preserved. I want the wallet to stay as it is. It is a memento."

Does Ford's Newest "Model T Moment" Make it a Millionaire Maker Stock?
Key Points Ford placed a large bet on a "skunkworks" team based in California. The new assembly tree will provide a net 15% assembly speed improvement. The new electric vehicle platform will underpin as many as eight EVs. 10 stocks we like better than Ford Motor Company › Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) investors have had plenty to digest between a spike in recalls this year that drove an increase in warranty costs, tariffs and trade policy whipsawing back and forth, and a price war in China. Finally, there's some intriguing news to digest in what Ford called its latest "Model T moment." But is this move to make a universal low-cost electric vehicle (EV) platform, and a new assembly tree, enough to make Ford a millionaire-maker stock? Skunkworks Ford is attempting to drive engineering and manufacturing forward with its announcement of the new Ford Universal EV Platform and Ford Universal EV Production System on Monday. Born of a "skunkworks" team based in California, the team created a simple, efficient, and flexible ecosystem to deliver a family of affordable, electric, and software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Switch Auto Insurance and Save Today! Affordable Auto Insurance, Customized for You The Insurance Savings You Expect Great Rates and Award-Winning Service "We took a radical approach to solve a very hard challenge: Create affordable vehicles that are breakthrough in every way that matters -- design, technology, performance, space and cost of ownership -- and do it with American workers," CEO Jim Farley said in a statement, according to Yahoo Finance. More specifically, the new EV platform will underpin as many as eight models starting with an electric pickup truck in 2027 that will be closer in size to a Maverick than a Ranger. The four-door electric pickup truck will have more passenger space than a Toyota RAV4, a 0-60 time as fast as a Mustang EcoBoost, a sticker price around $30,000, and, most importantly of all, Ford says the pickup will be profitable. Universal EV production system Arguably as important as the first product turned out by the new production system is the process itself. Ford zeroed in on manufacturing efficiency and transformed its traditional assembly line into an "assembly tree," which will have three sub-assemblies running their lines simultaneously before joining the parts together. Because of the new process and the new EV platform, assembly of the upcoming midsize electric truck could be up to 40% faster than current vehicles produced at the Louisville Assembly Plant. However, Ford plans to reinvest some of that time into automation to improve quality and cost, ultimately providing a 15% net speed improvement. In addition to the assembly speed savings, numbers continue to tell the story with the EV platform reducing parts by 20%, compared to a typical vehicle, with 25% fewer fasteners and 40% fewer workstations dock-to-dock in the plant. Ford also believes the cost of ownership over five years will be lower than that of a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y. What it all means The fact that Ford could churn out a four-door electric pickup for $30,000 that's profitable by 2027 is a big deal. That's especially true when you consider it's not a one-off product, but rather the first entry in a family of up to eight more vehicles. It's a huge deal to take steps toward profitability because Ford's Model-e business division checked in with a hefty $2.18 billion loss during the first half of 2025. Reversing that loss in the near-term will provide a huge boost to the bottom line, and in theory the stock price. But is this move enough to make Ford a millionaire-maker stock? Is it truly another revolutionary step in the spirit of a "Model T moment"? Investors would likely be wise to temper their expectations in the near term, as Ford faces its fair share of headwinds. It faces a brutal price war in China that has caused foreign automakers to struggle for market share and profits. It faces ever-changing tariffs and trade policies that can cause bottlenecks in its supply chain and difficulty in planning ahead. Ford also faces a rise in recalls that it has struggled with in recent years, and the rising expenses associated with warranty costs. Make no mistake, Ford's new assembly and new EV platform are a big, big deal. But before investors even buy into the new developments, much less become millionaires from owning the stock, Ford has to execute the new technology and actually deliver this pickup profitably for $30,000 – we haven't seen it yet. Then it has to follow that up with a line of other successful EVs. To put it simply, Ford needs to not only execute its new platform launches, but it needs much more than a new EV platform to make investors millionaires.
