Lidl is giving away free bakery items every day — including 'top tier' pastry

Metro3 days ago
From the iconic cheese twist to all butter croissants and pizza slices galore, there's no temptation – or smell – quite like the Lidl bakery.
This August, though, the budget supermarket is stepping up its sweet treat game, as pastry fans will be able to grab free bakery items every single day. Yes, you read that correctly.
Starting on July 31, members will be able to take part in the Lidl Bakery Spin via the Lidl Plus app.
All you need to do is buy an item in-store, and scan your app when paying. You'll then have one week to tap and spin the wheel to see which tasty freebie you've bagged, which is, arguably, a piece of cake.
Better still, there are 21 freshly baked goods up for grabs, including the bestselling all butter croissant, which is so popular with bakery aficionados that it sells 218 each minute.

Lidl's famous bakery has long been hailed a culinary destination, with many praising its 'mouth-watering' sweet staples.
Over on the r/AskUK Subreddit, @crazycatdiva said that the chocolate brownies are 'honestly the best I've ever had,' labelling them 'phenomenal.'
@wildgoldchai added that the Portuguese pastéis de nata are 'like crack in pastry form' and at a 'fantastic price too,' while @julialoveslush said, 'I'm autistic and they're one of my 'safe' foods. I adore them.'
Elsewhere, @Forstaken-Voice-6686 believes that both the 'brownies and pretzels are god tier,' while @ricketycricket09 favours the 'top tier' cheese twist.
Last month, Lidl stepped up its bakery game considerably – and added a Birthday Cake Bun priced at just 79p. Featuring pale pink icing and rainbow sprinkles, there's a fruity pink swirl tucked inside.
Following the launch, Metro decided to put the Birthday Cake Bun to the test and find out if it's worth buying, and it certainly went down a treat.
James Besanvalle, Metro's assistant opinion editor, rated it a 4.5 out of 5, hailing it as 'fantastic'. More Trending
He said: 'Lidl's new Birthday Cake Bun combines all the best elements of a doughnut (pink icing and sprinkles) with a scroll-like bun (jam-filled and soft in the middle). Sure, it's sweet – but who really wants a birthday cake that's not? Supremely satisfying.'
Metro's specialist food writer, Courtney Pochin, described it as a 'fun twist on a classic.'
''There's something so spectacularly nostalgic about the taste of an iced bun and it went down very nicely with a cup of tea,' she added.

'My only real gripe is that Lidl has scrimped on the hundreds and thousands on top.'

Fast and Furious villain warns they're ‘ready to go' for final sequel appearance

Jason Momoa has promised that he's 'ready to go' for the next Fast and Furious movie, but is still waiting for the all-important call. The Dune legend popped up as Dante Reyes in 2023's Fast X, which served as the 10th movie in the legendary action franchise, and he was clearly in his element while stepping into his campy villain era alongside Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, Tyrese and co. After Vin, aka Dominic Toretto, confirmed that the 11th and final instalment will be racing onto the big screen in 2027, the 46-year-old revealed that he would love to return to the fold. Speaking to Metro to promote his stunning historical drama, Chief of War, talk turned to his future projects, and whether we would ever see Dante again. 'Listen, they couldn't get rid of me if they tried,' he declared. 'But I'm just saying that I'm waiting for them to call. 'I'm ready to go. You can quote me, I'm ready to f**k s**t up.' Fast X was released in 2023 and ended on an almighty cliffhanger, perfectly setting up Dominic's desperation to save his 'family' and Dante's desire to exact revenge on the gang after the events of the fifth movie led to his father's death. Jason's unhinged performance was a hit with fans and critics alike, with many branding his character the 'best villain yet'. Unpacking his efforts in a chat with Variety at the time, he shared that he had the time of his life with the role. 'I've never played a character that's, what's the word – he's evil and quirky and androgynous,' he teased. 'He's very sadistic and fun. It's very bizarre. 'I haven't played a villain in a very long time.' The Game of Thrones icon jumped right into character and actually improvised some of his most morbid scenes, including one where he enjoyed a cocktail with two of his dead henchmen. Director Louis Leterrier raved about his efforts in front of the camera, telling the Hollywood Reporter: 'What you have to realize is that Jason and I love each other. 'We found each other on this movie, and we realized that making each other laugh was a great way to create Dante. 'We really liked making each other laugh, and the extra points, the joker of our game, was to get Vin to crack up and come out of character as Dom Toretto. More Trending 'So we tried really hard, like when Dante calls Dom 'butthole,' but Vin is so focused when he is on set that it was impossible.' Fingers crossed that they can get him to crack in the next one… Fast and Furious 11 is slated to be released in 2027. Got a story?
