Fever beat Wings, extend winning streak to four games: Highlights
The Fever defeated the Dallas Wings 88-78 on Friday, Aug. 1 at the American Airlines Center, extending Indiana's winning streak to four games in a collective team effort. Four of five Indiana starters scored in double digits.
"This is the second half of the season. We know the margin of error is very small," said guard Aari McDonald, who finished with 15 points, while hitting four of six 3-pointers. "When four people are in double figures and they are all offensive threats, I think that opens up the floor for us."
Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 23 points and three assists. Aliyah Boston recorded her fifth consecutive double-double and is up to 13 double-doubles on the season, second only to to the Chicago Sky's Angel Reese (17). Natasha Howard also finished with a double-double, tallying 11 points and 16 rebounds, which tied her career-high for rebounds.
The Fever improved to 16-2 on the season and 8-7 without Clark in the lineup.
The Fever dominated from beyond the arc, knocking down 12-of-28 3-pointers. The Wings were limited to two 3-pointers and were out-rebounded 44-30, including 14 offensive rebounds for Indiana compared to four for Dallas.
Paige Bueckers had a team-high 22 points, four assist and two steals in the loss. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft was the only Wings player to reach double figures.
The Fever now lead the regular-season series vs. the Wings, 3-0. Indiana won the first matchup of the season 94-86 without Clark, who was sidelined at the time with a left groin injury. Fans got the highly-anticipated matchup between Clark and Bueckers on July 13 in Indianapolis, which the Fever won 102-83. Clark had 14 points, 13 assists and five steals in that victory, while Bueckers had 21 points and two steals in the loss.

Paige Bueckers returns after hard fall
Bueckers checked back into the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter after suffering a hard fall in the third quarter. Bueckers got right back to business and is up to a game-high 22 points, cutting the Wings' deficit to six points with 5:33 remaining in the game.
End of Q3: Fever 68, Wings 57
The Fever have a 13-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, led by 18 points and three rebounds from Kelsey Mitchell. Aliyah Boston and Natasha Howard are both closing in on double-doubles. Boston added 10 points and eight rebounds, while Howard is up to nine points and 13 rebounds.
Paige Bueckers appeared to be shaken up in the third quarter after fighting through a screen set by the Fever's Boston with 4:03 remaining. Bueckers went down hard and appeared to grab her right thigh area as she writhed in pain on the ground. She was able to get up under her own power before limping over to the bench. Buckers had a team-high 18 points, three rebounds and two assists before being subbed out.
No other Wings player has reached double-digits in scoring and they have yet to knock down a 3-pointer (0-of-8) so far. Myisha Hines-Allen has nine points off the bench, while Arike Ogunbowale added eight points and five assists.
Halftime: Fever 48, Wings 42
The Fever led by as many as eight points in the second quarter and take a six point lead into halftime. The Fever are 13-4 this season when leading at halftime, while the Wings are 1-17 when trailing at the half.
Natasha Howard is up to nine points and eight rebounds, while Kelsey Mitchell also scored nine points. The Fever have lived in the paint, scoring 24 of their 48 points from close range, but the addition of Chloe Bibby has helped Indiana stretch the floor. She's up to six points off the bench, shooting a perfect 2-of-2 from the 3-point line.
Paige Bueckers has a game-high 15 points, three assists, two rebounds and no turnovers. Bueckers has reached double-digit points in all 23 games she's played in her rookie season. Arike Ogunbowale has six points, and Myisha Hines-Allen added seven points off the bench. Haley Jones was limited in the second quarter with four fouls after picking up two fouls in a matter of 13 seconds.
The Wings are 0-of-5 from three, but they've knocked down 12-of-13 free throws to remain close. The Fever are 5-of-15 from beyond the arc and 7-of-9 from the free throw line.
End of Q1: Fever 22, Wings 22
Things are all tied up after a back-and-forth first quarter that featured four ties and one lead change.
Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell has a game-high seven points, while forward Natasha Howard is closing in on her seventh double-double of the season with six points and seven rebounds after the first quarter.
Indiana is out-rebounding Dallas 13-9, including five offensive rebounds, but the Wings have managed to get to the free throw line more. Dallas had nine free throw attempts in the first, compared to one for Indiana.
Paige Bueckers leads the Wings with five points, while Myisha Hines-Allen added five points off the bench.
Caitlin Clark injury update: Fever guard ruled out
The Fever All-Star guard will not be available for Friday's matchup against the Wings due to a right groin injury that has kept her sidelined for six consecutive games. Clark suffered the injury in the final minute of the Fever's win over Connecticut on July 15, another setback in Clark's injury-riddled sophomore season.

On Friday, the Fever announced that the team signed Australian forward Chloe Bibby for the rest of the year. Fever initially signed Bibby to a seven-day contract on July 25 and she went on to appear in two games, averaging 9.0 points while shooting 44.4% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.

Falcons sign RT Kaleb McGary to two-year, $30 million extension
According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Atlanta Falcons are signing right tackle Kaleb McGary to a two-year, $30 million extension. McGary was entering the final year of his contract. The extension now keeps him in Atlanta through the 2027 season. The Falcons selected McGary in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft out of Washington. After getting off to a slow start his rookie year, McGary has developed nicely over the last five seasons. The 30-year-old is a dominant run blocker and has improved in pass protection. McGary's pass protection will be especially important now that the team has a left-handed quarterback in Michael Penix Jr. starting under center. It will be interesting to see how much cap space the Falcons may have cleared by extending McGary. Over the Cap listed the team with just under $5 million available prior to this signing. Rookies Jalon Walker and Xavier Watts were both out there after being restricted to individual drills over the late few practices. Head coach Raheem Morris said wide receiver Darnell Mooney (shoulder) will be out for a few more weeks. BYU looking to fill unexpected hole at quarterback after Jake Retzlaff's offseason departure
PROVO, Utah (AP) — BYU is unexpectedly searching for a new starting quarterback while trying to contend for a Big 12 title again this season. Jake Retzlaff led the Cougars to an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl victory over Colorado a year ago while throwing for 2,947 yards and 20 touchdowns. With Retzlaff returning for his senior season, BYU was optimistic about building on that success in 2025. But he left the program in July. Retzlaff was named as a defendant in a since-dismissed civil lawsuit that accused him of sexual assault. He acknowledged what he described as a consensual sexual relationship in his defense. Following the lawsuit's dismissal, Retzlaff transferred to Tulane rather than face a potential suspension for violating a requirement in BYU's honor code asking students to abstain from premarital sex. His departure left a major hole in BYU's offense heading into fall camp. Three quarterbacks — McCae Hillstead, Treyson Bourguet, and Bear Bachmeier — have emerged as serious candidates to be the new signal caller. 'Luckily this staff has been through quarterback competitions many times before,' BYU coach Kalani Sitake said. 'The goal is to try to get these guys in situations where we can play football and see how they can function.' Hillstead and Bourguet have already spent a year in the program. Both players were buried on the depth chart behind Retzlaff and backup QB Gerry Bohanon after transferring into BYU last season. Each quarterback came to Provo with starting experience at their previous schools. Hillstead appeared in eight games, starting four, as a true freshman in 2023. He threw for 1,062 yards and 11 touchdowns while completing 59.5% of his passes. During his lone season with the Aggies, Hillstead set Utah State's freshman single-game passing record. He tallied 399 yards and four touchdowns on 25-of-47 passing in a 45-38 loss to James Madison. Hillstead is listed at 5-foot-10 and struggled to stay healthy at Utah State. But he's confident that his familiarity with the BYU playbook and his experience with the Aggies will help him overcome any perceived disadvantage with his height and smaller frame. 'You can't try to be anybody else other than yourself,' Hillstead said. 'Put that all on tape. Be your best self and try to go get it.' Bourguet played in 10 games over two seasons at Western Michigan before transferring to BYU in 2024. He threw for 1,314 yards and six touchdowns while completing 52.4% of his passes. The 6-foot-2 junior is feeling confident after having continuity for the first time in his football career. Bourguet had to adapt to new coaches and new offensive systems in all four years of high school football and both seasons at Western Michigan. 'This is most confident and comfortable I've been in a system my whole career,' Bourguet said. Bachmeier did not play a snap for Stanford, transferring from the Cardinal to the Cougars after spring practices. The 6-foot-2 true freshman is trying to follow in the footsteps of his older brother, Hank, who won the starting job as a freshman at Boise State. Hank Bachmeier eventually made 48 career starts in stints at Boise State, Louisiana Tech, and Wake Forest, tallying 11,256 yards and 67 touchdowns over six seasons. The younger Bachmeier looks at his older brother as his primary mentor as he tries to make his own mark. 'He's obviously played a lot of ball, he's got a lot of experience,' Bachmeier said. 'So I'm just trying to be a sponge with him. Obviously, he's passing down a lot of knowledge to me and I'm trying to soak it up as much as I can.' Sitake and offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick split first-teams reps evenly between Hillstead, Bachmeier, and Bourguet in the first fall practice. Their preference is to name a starter quickly, but they also don't want to rush their evaluation period ahead of the season opener at home against Portland State on August 30th. 'I know that we can wait until the first game, but we'd like to get it sorted out as soon as we can,' Sitake said. 'You can't really put a deadline to it. For the first time in Red Sox history, the entire game will feature an all-female broadcast team and the first all-female broadcast booth, NESN officials said in a statement on Monday. Portland Sea Dogs announcer Emma Tiedemann and NESN's Emmy award-winning reporter Alanna Rizzo will handle play-by-play and color, respectively, network officials said. NESN reporter Kasey Hudson, who joined the network first in a role sponsored by Women of NESN, will take on sideline duties. The night's coverage will also feature an all-female studio team anchored by NESN's WooSox and Hockey East reporter Natalie Noury with The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey as analyst. Veteran Red Sox producer Amy Kaplan will be at the helm of the game production, while producer Anna Gregoire will lead the studio production. The milestone event will happen during Women's Celebration Night at Fenway Park on Tuesday. Tuesday's first pitch against the Kansas City Royals is slated for 7:10 p.m. with the game available on NESN and NESN 360. The all-female on-air team and booth are part of the Women of NESN initiative that aims to elevate 'the voices and talent of women in sports media.'
