Post-game live stream: Key takeaways and thoughts from Seahawks 33, Chiefs 16

Yahooa day ago
The Seattle Seahawks ran roughshod over the Kansas City Chiefs, racking up 268 yards on the ground and 477 overall in a convincing (well, as convincing as preseason can be) 33-16 win on Friday night at Lumen Field. A lively crowd braved the rainy, breezy conditions and were undoubtedly encouraged by what they saw on the offensive side of the ball. The defense shut the Chiefs offense down after the early portion of the second quarter, but that was a decidedly distant part of the main story. We're plenty hyped about the Seahawks defense and what they could do in 2025, but the offense has shown a lot of promise through two exhibition games.
Myself and HawksZone Rundown podcast host Bryce Coutts are coming to you live from, uh, our respective homes to give you our day-after thoughts and observations on the game, the roster, and much more. This is going to be a regular feature (whether with me, Bryce and Ryan MacMillan, etc.) for Seahawks games on Field Gulls this season, and there will be another special collaboration with myself, Bryce, Brandon Cain of The Hawk's Nest, and Dan Viens from Seahawks Forever very soon. We'll have a separate article on that next week!
You can catch this episode of HawksZone Rundown at 6 pm PT and join the live chat or just watch the replay on-demand!

Mark Vientos' three-run homer delights kids, leads Mets to 7-3 win over Mariners

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Mark Vientos hit a three-run homer to the delight of hundreds of cheering 12-year-olds and sent the New York Mets to a 7-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday night in the Major League Baseball Little League Classic . Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh boosted his major league home run lead with his 47th of the season in the seventh. Little Leaguers from around the world made up the bulk of the crowd at the 2,366-seat Historic Bowman Field and some of them got to pinch-hit in a variety of roles. There were kids in the broadcast booth, playing DJ, and even public address announcer. That is, when they weren't belting out the SpongeBob lyrics or angling for selfies with Mariner Moose or Mr. Met . For the big leaguers, the annual game is a throwback of sorts to their own youth baseball days. Mets pitcher Sean Manaea traded pins. Raleigh's chest protector featured a baseball card design of teammates and coaches from when they were kids. And yes, managers for both teams held their breath as players went cardboard sledding at Lamade Stadium. The game went downhill early for the Mariners. Vientos hit a sacrifice fly off Mariners starter George Kirby (8-6) in a three-run second inning. Vientos hit his eighth homer of the year in the fifth to make it 6-1. Francisco Lindor added an RBI double later in the inning. The game put the Little League in Little League Classic when Lindor mistimed a leap on a catchable ball that led to a Mariners run in the fourth and Seattle center fielder Julio Rodríguez misplayed Lindor's double and let the ball drop on the warning track. Clay Holmes (10-6) allowed one run in five innings for the win. Perhaps it came off the field. Commissioner Rob Manfred said during the ESPN telecast that baseball would consider expansion that could potentially geographically realign teams for easier travel and potentially make for more viewer-friendly TV times in the postseason. The Mets failed to blow a lead for just the second time in the last nine games. The Mets are off Monday before they start a three-game series at Washington. The Mariners head to Philadelphia on Monday for the start of a three-game series. AP MLB:

ESPN Analyst's Son Was Just Named The No. 1 Recruit in America

ESPN on Thursday dropped its SC NEXT 60 for the high school basketball Class of 2027, and a very familiar name sits at the top of the list. Marcus Spears Jr. has been named by ESPN as the No. 1 basketball recruit in the country. And if his name sounds eerily familiar it's because his father, Marcus Spears Sr., is an ESPN and Monday Night Football analyst. The elder Spears was a standout at LSU before he was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys with the 20th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. That Marcus Jr., a 6-foot-7 power forward, opted for basketball instead of football comes as no surprise. His father was once a highly touted basketball recruit who earned Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year honors in high school before committing to play football at the SEC powerhouse. What's more, Marcus Jr.'s mother was also a standout basketball star. Aiysha Smith played at LSU before the Washington Mystics selected her with the seventh overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft. Suffice it to say, Marcus Jr. has some serious basketball pedigree. 'I have a lot of respect for my peers and they are great talents as well. To be recognized as the top player in the country in my class is not only an honor but a testament to all the work that's been put in so far," Marcus Jr. said via ESPN. "Much more work to do but honored to be in this spot. The work is all that matters." It goes without saying, Marcus Jr. will have plenty of collegiate options. According to the national recruiting site 247Sports, Marcus Jr. already has 12 offers, including from Kentucky, Houston and, of course, LSU. No word if Marcus Sr. will encourage his son to follow in his parent's footsteps and become a Tiger, but it's safe to say Marcus Sr. will carve out time from his busy schedule as an NFL analyst to watch his son ball out.
