Review: Kieran Hodgson at the Fringe is a riotous road trip
Gayle Anderson
Four stars
Appropriately for a show about the land of plenty, Kieran Hodgson has super-sized his offering this year. Voice of America begins with Bruce Springsteen's Born In The USA booming through the speakers. Hocus POTUS! We're instructed to please welcome the future president of the United States, before Kieran high-fives his way through the auditorium and onto the stage.
This is a long way from Two Doors Down, but it promises to be less shock and awe and more shock and aww. Dressed in double-denim and very nearly getting away with it, Kieran describes himself as looking like David Tennant's nephew. Who would doubt him? He's warm, funny and utterly engaging as he tells the story of his life-long love affair with the USA and his attempt at carving out a career in Hollywood.

It's a slick, carefully-crafted show, packed with smart one-liners and silly catch-phrases. His railway timetables tic is a favourite. It's train-spotting geek style rather than Leith style. Throughout the show, Kieran explores his adoration of all things Americana. As you'd expect, there's some masterful mimicry. All that's missing with his three 90's movie impressions is the popcorn and his JFK stump speech sent shivers. Not all former presidents fare quite so well. It's (stars and) swipes at George Bush and his infamous Bushisms. Even Obama doesn't escape unscathed. As far as the current White House resident goes, Kieran has pleaded the fifth. But will the mango menace make a guest appearance? You'll have to see for yourselves. Big reveals are for losers…

In 2021, Kieran's two-minute on-line parody of The Crown became a viral sensation. It gave him a taste for Tinseltown. So when the producers of a Hollywood superhero movie come calling, can Kieran convince them he can play an American? Will his Sandwich Man cut it?
This is a well-planned, riotous road trip full of delicious detours. But, a bit like the Hodgson family holiday tapes, my feelings on the ending were mixed. Will the four-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee's name be in those ballot boxes this year? I wouldn't bet against it.

Emmanuel Sonubi: Life After Near Death, Pleasance Courtyard, four stars.

From Love Triangles To Baby Names - Everything You Need To Know About The Love Is Blind UK Couples
Love Is Blind season two might have only just landed on Netflix, but if you're anything like us, you will be dying to know which couples are still making it work on the outside. We've seen love triangles; indecision; back and forth, shared values and intense chemistry - which is all part of the package when you throw 30 singletons together and ask them to blindly date. Five couples have got engaged but chosen to go their separate ways, which means another five remain together. But will their relationships stand the test of time before their weddings in just a few weeks? Yes, Kal and Sarover are still very much together as it stands - although they could face some challenges late down the line. They instantly hit things off in the pod, with Kal even saying he couldn't get enough of Sarover's 'lovely little posh accent.' They faced an initial hurdle when it came to their backgrounds, and what their families might think of their growing relationship. When they met in person, things went smoothly - which as viewers know, is half the battle on the show. However, cracks began to show when Sarover expressed insecurity that she wasn't Kal's usual type, which according to his dating history is white and blonde women. Hopefully these two can overcome this hurdle! These two formed an instant connection, and even became the first couple to get engaged on the show. After their initial spark, they even got deeper with each other, opening up about their backgrounds and how that has shaped the partner they want today. However, a small hurdle happened when they discussed their careers - and how conflicting schedules might impact a relationship later down the line. Ashleigh is cabin crew on an aircraft and Billy is in the army. But when they met, their physical connection was undeniable and there was instant chemistry - particularly on their vacation in Cyprus. We've got every faith these two can go the extra mile. Unlike some of the other couples, it wasn't always smooth sailing for Sophie and Kieran. They became involved in a love triangle early on when Kieran was also getting to know Sophie. However, after a few dates he felt that he and Megan shared a deeper connection, while Sophie had a harder time getting deep. He affirmed that Sophie was the one when he bought her a present from Japan. However this led Sophie to feel hurt, and tell Megan about her relationship with Kieran. When Megan was confused, he reassured her 'I only want to do the rest of this journey with you.' Aww. Sophie left the experiment and Kieran ended up proposing to Megan. So far, so good - but with a return from Sophie on the cards, things might not be plain sailing for too long. Jed and Bardha instantly hit it off in the pod due to connecting over their life goals. They both want to build a family and agreed it was important to honour their heritages. They shared a number of deep stories with each other, discussed baby names and their connection grew so strong that Jed proposed. In Cyprus, the pair's connection only went from strength to strength, and they both feel confident they will fit right in with each other's families. So far, so good. But in a teaser for the upcoming episode, there could be some drama on the horizon, as Bardha is seen confessing to her girlfriend's that the couple had an argument. Watch this space to see how it plays out. Katisha and Javen instantly hit it off in the pods, with family values racing to the top of their priority list. However, there was a spanner in the works in the form of (yes, another) love triangle. Katisha was also forming a bond with Demola, and found herself torn between the two men. After back and forth between the two, initially choosing Demola, Katisha pivoted back to Javen. The pair started dating, and became one of the last couples to get engaged - with things taking off in Cyprus. However, this hasn't stopped outsiders weighing in on the dynamic - namely Kal, who had a problem with how Katisha behaved with Demola. In the teaser, Kal even goes on to confront Javen about this too. Can their relationship survive the strain of the outside world? Alice Hall is the Staff Writer at Grazia UK. Plans to save BBC Scotland's Dumbarton Studios unveiled
Dumbarton Studios has been described as a 'vital hub' for Scottish television, helping to nurture local talent, and is the home to shows including Shetland, Still Game, Two Doors Down, and River City. However, in March, BBC Scotland said it planned to close Dumbarton Studios when its lease for the facility ends in September 2026, following the news that it was axing its long-running drama River City. READ NEXT: Evacuation after woman threatened to blow up house while playing Sophie Ellis Bextor READ NEXT: Police force entry into Glasgow home to discover £7k of cannabis With uncertainty surrounding the future of the studios, production firm Firewalker Pictures has unveiled its plans to safeguard Dumbarton Studios' legacy by taking over the facility and offering a new 'vibrant home' for Scottish and international productions. Maureen Hascoet, director of Firewalker Pictures, told our sister title The National that Dumbarton Studios has long been a cornerstone of Scotland's creative industry and that 'it deserves more than to fade into history'. 'Our vision is to preserve its heritage while opening the doors to fresh voices, emerging filmmakers, and groundbreaking content,' she said. Hascoet (left) added: 'Who we choose to be right now as an industry and how we show up in this deal will determine our destiny.' (Image: Tatjana Tischler) 'It's about more than preserving Scotland's film and TV infrastructure. 'It's about investing in ourselves as storytellers and finding our place as leaders in the global economy." Hascoet said that Firewalker Pictures plans to invest in upgrading the facilities, in a bid to ensure the studios remain a competitive and attractive location for both domestic and international productions. She added that her firm is committed to working with the local community, industry partners, and government bodies to ensure that Dumbarton Studios continues to play a key role in Scotland's cultural and economic future. Hascoet stressed that the proposed acquisition is still in its early stages; however, Firewalker Pictures is engaging in ongoing discussions with the current owners of the site, Westerwood Properties. The owner of the Edinburgh-based property firm Westerwood Properties previously told The National they would look at possibilities of developing a new building for the studio if BBC Scotland wanted to stay.

Halsey's Americana co-star gushes about 'thoughtful' gift from singer
Halsey stars in the new Western thriller, and the singer's young co-star has opened up about working with her Pop sensation Halsey has made her cinema debut in Americana, a Western thriller that's been described as 'Tarantino-esque'. Landing in cinemas next Friday, the film also features Euphoria stars Sydney Sweeney and Eric Dane. The plot follows timid waitress Penny Jo (Sweeney) and military veteran Lefty Ledbetter (Paul Walter Hauser), who join forces to get their hands on a rare Native American artefact. Their quest puts them in the firing line of Dillon MacIntosh (Dane), a merciless criminal working for an antiquities trader. As the story unfolds, viewers meet Mandy Starr (Halsey), a desperate woman fleeing her dangerous past with her son Cal, played by emerging talent Gavin Maddox Bergman, reports the Mirror US. Now, Gavin, who was a pre-teen during filming, has revealed heart-warming stories about working with Halsey. Speaking exclusively to the Mirror 's Screen Time team, the now teenage actor said: "Halsey is such a kind person. She's very generous and we actually found that we have a lot of shared interests, specifically with art." He went on, divulging a thoughtful gesture from the singer: "My 12th birthday was on set and she went out of her way to get me a six-pack of Crumbl cookies as a surprise." But the pop star's kindness didn't end there, with Gavin also revealing a heart-warming wrap present he received from the chart-topper. "She got me an iPad because I hadn't had any devices like that. She wanted me to get into digital art and she was very kind for getting me that," Gavin told us, adding: "That was awesome. It was a really thoughtful gift." Prior to rubbing shoulders with the Colors singer, Gavin had already been acquainted with her chart-topping tracks. "My mom and I love her music," said the young actor. "We used to listen to her on the radio and we became pretty big fans." So when he learned he would be appearing alongside her on screen, it was "very, very exciting". Elsewhere in our conversation, the budding film star also revealed what attracted him to the role of Cal. "I saw this lonely boy, who just wanted to find his space in the world. And that's what we do as kids, we try to find belonging and connection," he explained.
